The staff were very nice. The location is great. It is closed to the convention center and located in the heart of downtown. Great location and happy that it was pet friendly (although the $100 pet fee is a bit steep). The valey only $38 parking is also high - even for the area, but this was a last minute trip so I didn't have many options to shop around. There are lots of reasonable parking lots within walking distance of the hotel, so don't get freaked out about the valet parking. Staff were friendly and helpful. My only problems with the hotel are that the windows don't open, it got a little stuffy, and I left the hall door open to air out the room. No windows or fan in the bathroom. The studio is well designed and efficient, but not much bigger than a standard hotel room. The bathroom had a frosted sliding glass door, which did little to muffle sounds (LOL). The hotel was clean, the staff was friendly, rates were very affordable. I appreciated all the amenities that were available for use. The location in the Gaslamp district is fantastic, easy to walk to many areas, food, grocery, entertainment, shopping are all very accessible. The fifth floor view was slightly less than desirable, but above that things looked much better. The lighting in the room was a bit difficult, but that can be dealt with easily. The pool/workout area was very clean, quiet, and spacious, good for relaxing outside, or getting a quick workout in before heading off to enjoy the day. The breakfast was delicious, served during convenient times, and free. Last year we stayed at a luxury hotel attached to the Horton Plaza Shopping Center and the experience was nowhere near as satisfying as The Residence Inn by Marriott. The Residence at the Marriot is a great hotel to stay at - especially for families on a budget. It is relatively inexpensive but has the feel and look of an upscale hotel. It is a five minute walk to the trolley which will get you to Balboa Park Musuems and the zoo. It is also quick and easy to find your way onto the expressways to Sea World (which is close) and the Safari Zoo. The rooms are comfortable and quiet. Can't hear street noise or other rooms. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you need. The hotel offers a shopping service. Beds and furniture are comfortable. The continental breakfast is great - there is no reason to go out for breakfast. You can even make your own waffles! The gym's equipment is all in good working order. The pool is small but great for the kids - only 3 feet deep so you don't have to constantly worry about them. And it's heated. They also have laundry machines at the hotel so you can pack light and skip the luggage fees!! The hotel parking is expensive.
