San Diego’s waterfront airport lies northwest of downtown, which is home to the San Diego Convention Center, PetCo Park stadium, and the Gaslamp Quarter’s. That historic neighborhood’s restaurants and bars are the hub of the city’s nightlife. Balboa Park and the San Diego Zoo form a green swath in this urban jungle. Offshore, Coronado Island offers postcard views of the city skyline.

Be careful which rooms you get. I got a room. Rooms were not ready until after 3pm. I had room 507 and the view was awful. There were speakers immediately outside and no view around them. The furniture is a little worn from people partying in the room as well. If you go during intervention Sundays the elevator/ bouncers are really rude demanding you […] show them your room key which I understand but you're not treated like a guest. Would not stay there unless I was partying there. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Pricey Joint for terrible WiFi and BAD Customer Se"
Nice hotel room. Absolutely terrible internet service. Dropped signal every 60 seconds or so. Could get ABSOLUTELY no work done on a biz trip and the staff couldnt care less. No concessions, no apologies, no solutions. Deal with it was the response. For $300/nite, WIFI should be available on the moon. This is 2013!!!Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Too much for what you get."
Overall this is a pretty good hotel and the location is even better. The only thing for me is that the shower was not working properly. The hot water would not get hot past a luke warm feeling. The lights in the bathroom were not bright enough and were flickering from time to time.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

Best part about the hotel is location: close to the convention center, and right on the edge of the gaslamp district. Decor is modern but comfortable. Room is big, with a kind of weird set up in that the bathroom and shower are on opposite sides of the room, sink in between, and all of it separates the "bedroom" from the living area. Not a problem unless […] you have people hanging out with you. Lastly, no desk to work at, just a bar with high chairs or the coffee table. So, overall, serves well as a "home base" where you sleep and keep your stuff, from which you explore the surrounding city. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Business Executive"
Very unhappy with the hotel and room. It was loud and when we called the manager did nothing to make our stay more accommodating. When we checked out and called valet for our car they indicated after our two day stay they were busy and for us to come down and get our own Mercedes. We brought our own bags down as well. In addition, I'm a frequent traveler […] for business and stay at the Marriott. I have never had a problem with wonderful accommodations and enjoy tipping great guest service. "Fantastic location!"
Stayed here on a Saturday night. Everyone at the hotel was friendly and helpful. Club 207 was fun and no cove charge or wait for hotel guests. Maryjanes was great for late nigh after club grub. Hotel is situated right in Glaslamp with walking to great shops and restaurants. Valet was quick and easy didn't mind paying the extra fee. Overall would definitely […] stay again! "Great Modern Hotel"
Great modern hotel. Stayed there for a week on business and enjoyed it very much! There might be couple of drunk loud girls in the hall way around the early moring hours, but that was expected at Hard Rock.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Loud, loud, loud"
The staff was fabulous, a number of guests were awful. Staying there doesn't give you the right to "party like a rock star." Staff responded well but a couple of groups were out of line--and on weeknights. Street, construction, and delivery noise starting at 5:00 a.m. every day didn't help either. Very, very noisy part of town. If noise doesn't bother […] you you'll love the suites, beds were comfy and the rooms were very nice. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great stay, very posh"
Great, fun, modern hotel. Comfort, cleanliness, all you need at your fingertips. Rooms are quiet, too. Very pleasant hot tub, pool, and bars areas. One lady at front desk staff is not very nice, though.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Hotel mostly great. Pretty too. Good locale. Staff tried hard to make things pleasant. However, check-in staff got their late check-out rules wrong which was highly inconvenient. Sink was plugged, drained VERY slowly, kinda gross, and didn't get fixed when we called down to ask for it to be repaired.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Gaslamp District Hotel--Close to Convention Center"
My stay at the Hard Rock Hotel was nice. I arrived on a Sunday and my room was not ready. I had to wait over an hour and a half for a room, and even then had to complain to get into a room at that point. The staff was friendly and helped as they could. Beware, on Sundays that there is a large pool party that can be loud and the lobby and surrounding […] area is filled with young people. The rest of the week was relatively quiet. "Excellent place to stay"
I was there for a conference at the convention center which was right across the street. Took me just a few minutes to get to my classes. The organization used a different hotel as host and I found a better rate through Hotels.com at the Hard Rock and I liked it so much better. The size of the hotel is just right, not overwhelming. I prefer a small […] to medium size hotel. One of my favorite things in the room were the pillows, Probably the best hotel pillows I have ever used, having great pillows means I am going to sleep better. I would absolutely return. "Up all night"
I typically enjoy HR Hotels. On this night in San Diego, the hotel's fire alarm went off about every ten minutes. All were false alarms and the staff seemed unfazed. I had a busy day that day and a really busy day following. I got next to no sleep because of that alarm...and never got so much as an apology from the staff.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Hard Rock Hotel- A "Solid Choice" in San Diego"
This hotel was spectacular. Very European in the style and service- with tremendously helpful staff. Even the bellhops went out of their way to be helpful. We departed on a Friday night- and the bellop took our luggage cart completely around the block for us so we could quickly catch a cab and not get caught in a 20 minute traffic jam. This is a great […] value and located right at the Gaslamp district entrance for easy access to over 30 restaurants in the area. Well worth a stay. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"AWESOME LOCATION"
I was mainly there for work at the convention center, which is right across the street (literally). Location was great because it had a lot of nice restaurants and bars all around. The Hard Rock employees were all so friendly and wonderful, especially the valet people, door man and escorts/helpers. I attended their complimentary party to the lounge […] right on the 1st floor and it was a lot of fun. The rooms are very comfortable and service is great. The only thing I would not recommend is, if you're going with a family or you're looking for a quiet nice hotel, don't go here. The weekends are full of parties and loud/drunk people. Not family/kid friendly at all but great for young party people. :) The pool is also nice with a bar outdoors with plenty of outdoor seats. Overall, it was all great~. "Great, but noisy on Saturday Night"
This is my second time staying at this hotel. The service is impeccable, the atmosphere is great and the rooms are really comfortable. The only drawback is trying to get an uninterrupted night of sleep on Saturday night. But, then at a hotel called the "Hard Rock," what do you expect? I'll definitely stay again as long as its not over the weekend!Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Pretentious Employees-Won't be going back!!!!"
My husband and I recently stayed at the Hard Rock on business. While the hotel was nice and the location was ideal, the people that work there are very pretentious, they don't really care about your stay. They are also useless when it comes to getting any tourist information. We had to drive to San Clemente Pier the first night we were there, and asked […] several employees from front desk to valets for directions and none of them could or wanted to help us, All we needed was directions to I-5, which I would think would be a fairly common request given that we were in a very touristy part of town. I also tried to get information about the trolley (which is literally across the street) and train and again no-one had a clue, only reponse I got was "we don't use them", you can check w/the concierge, who didn't come in till after 9:30a, only prob I had to catch the train at 9a. Last annoying thing was the hotel apparently turns into a nightclub at night, and entrances are roped off. We wanted to show some friends of ours(who will be doing a fair amount of traveling to San Diego in the future wanted to see the hotel) the pool area and were not allowed to do so, They wanted to see room keys, IDs, etc and gave us such attidtude that both my husband and I and our friends decided that we will never stay here again! There are many other choices in the area to stay, I checked out a bunch (since my husband will also be coming alot in the future) and all had much better service!! "Hard Rock Hotel San Diego - convenient and fun"
The site is directly across the street from the SD Convention Center (can sleep to the last minute before heading to meetings). Trolley stop for the Orange line is only a block away and the buses run nearby as well so it is easy to get to Balboa Park or other fun locations between business meetings. Did not eat at the hotel, but there are several restaurants […] under the same roof. The neighborhood is full of interesting restaurants. The hotel is fun, lots of rock museum type displays, music videos, etc. The gym is nicely organized. The pool is small and you have to walk through an outdoor bar to get to it (for those who don't like to be seen in public in their swimsuits, beware). I stayed in a studio room with a king bed, very nicely laid out, kind of spartan in the Euro-style but very efficient for working after hours yet comfortable enough for watching TV. No room for guests aside for the two bar stools at the ledge serving as a snack eating place (there is a separate desk top for working with your laptop. I was glad that the package I had included Internet access, because otherwise this hotel charges a whopping $15 per day for something that most places offer for free these days. "Definitely the "Hard Rock" hotel"
Given the name and target market, this hotel meets expectations. I was in town for a professional conference (held at another location) and the "party atmosphere" was not what I wanted during this visit. However, if you are seeking a clean, friendly hotel with lots of night life activities, this is your place. The restaurants have very good food; a […] bit pricey, but that is to be expected. If you do stay here, try the Tin Fish across the street for really good Fish-N-Chips and Fish Tacos at a reasonble price. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"will never go back"
Music is loud to the point of being unsettling. The intervention pool party taking place when we arrived was disgustingly offensive. The place is set up for groups 20-25 year old to party with booze available in the rooms. It looked to me like they were letting the rooms out to mixed groups of young people.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Hard Rock rocks"
I was in San Diego for a conference at the Hilton Bayfront, but they wanted too much per night even for the weekdays during my stay. I found the Hard Rock at much less during the week and saved a few bob. Sweet. Oh, and the hotel was a blast. Great execution of their theme throughout. Fab.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Exceptional hotel - maybe not suitable for busines"
The hotel was amazing - top notch, super fun, superb location. Walking distance to fun and amazing restaruants! But on the weekend this hotel turns into a vegas nightclub, with music thumping until 4am. Awesome if you're joining the party. Not awesome if you are there on business and need to sleep. Not coplaining- it is the hard rock afterall. Just […] might not choose it next time if I really need to sleep. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
