Nice hotel. Nice room and good restaurant. I felt like I was not as hip as the other patrons but still was pleasedGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"very friendly and professional staff"
Parking is a little difficult and there was no vending or ice machines on my floor. The staff and comfort of the room made up for those lacking items.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
It was a good hotel but the Gaslamp district is not the right place for families with kids. La Jolla is a much better choice with kids.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"San Diego W Stay"
The W hotel is conveniently located downtown. The rates were reasonable and the service quality was fantastic. What prevented rating this hotel as very satisfying was the parking and internet rates seemed a tad high. The room was nice, but we did have to learn the toilet by holding the flush lever down longer than normal. The room seemed a bit warm […] even with the thermometer turned down. We could hear our neighbours next door well into the night. Overall the hotel staff was great and the highway access is convenient for a drive to the beaches. I am a W fan and most likely will stay again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"nice hotel - awful staffing issues!!!"
great location, nice decor and conditions of the rooms. unfortumately the front desk staff is unacceptable. stayed 7 days and 5 out of 7 days had very simple difficulties. I even worked with the manager and was very unimpressed. i travel frequently and this is the worst staff i have ever encountered. i felt as though they were all unhappy to be there […] and very untrained on thier jobs. good luck if you choose this location! Service was horrible and really non existent! I waited for 30 min in the living room bar and not once did someone serve me. When I arrived I asked for champaign to be delivered and got it 2 hours later and had to call and remind them. Horrible!!!!Genuine Hotels.com guest review

The room was dirty, restroom was not operating so well, no parking at all !!! only valet parking is available for $35 per day which is crazy ! Very noisy, poor room !Genuine Expedia guest review

"Superb Choice"
Loved it, Hotel lobby is like a lounge or bar. Rooms are very clean and the location is perfect, walking distance to little italy, gaslamp and marine(where you can take ferry to coronado). aldo 15$ to airport and old town.Genuine Expedia guest review
"All disadvantages of four-star hotel"
Hotel is nice, but has common disadvantages of four-star hotel: no complimentary breakfast, no complimentary wi-fi in the room, expensive parking. Also, they blocked additional $200 on my card. The pricing was important for us.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great for a couples getaway."
We had a great weekend getaway at The W San Diego. It is a great place to stay for couples or singles. The music was pumping and the decor is modern and cute. Not a great option for kids. Everything was very clean, the gym was great and the staff was helpful. Also, within easy walking distance to Gaslamp and the Harbor. Would definitely stay here a […] gain! "25.00 per cup of hot water"
My wife needed to heat up some medicine and asked for a microwave. The staff told us there was a 25.00 charge per use. So we had hot water carried up as needed. Waste of time. Hot water out of the coffee maker tasted like coffee grinds. We got the Fabulous Bay View room - there is no bay view room except a room tucked in a corner of an "L" shape that […] have a one inch wide view of a boat. The bay views were seen from the hallway that had large windows looking out to the San Diego bay. Lounge food service was slow, bar tender who serviced food requests was by himself and talked to a couple for an hour. More than five groups were kept waiting for orders. The front staff were nice, jumped on all the problems, were mystified why they were happening - the fire brigade for cleaning up messes, a proactive staff, well trained could easily have spotted the problems before they came up - in all a very disappointing stay at the very famous W Hotel in San Diego. "Great hotel"
It is a very nice, modern and cool hotel. You definitely get what you pay for. Great place for younger people to have a fun time. Is walking distance from little Italy and the gas lamp district Valet parking is a bit pricey but there's a lot you can park at a block away for half priceGenuine Expedia guest review

Nice hotel, below average customer service for a hotel like thisGenuine Expedia guest review
"Nice Place to Stay. Poshy-Cool."
The brand of "W" Hotels is well-respected. The staff was excellent with their services. The Hotel decor is not traditional, which is a nice change. My wife and I went on a discounted stay for our anniversary and they provided a free bottle of champagne and chocoloates. We were treated very well. The facility and the common areas outside of the lobby […] needed more detail to cleaning. The hallway carpets needed TLC. Small, clean rooms. Overall, a good stay. They would not get their rack-rate except in a booming economy. Would stay again on a discounted rate. $35 a day for parking is ridiculous but is a San Diego norm. "Good Hotel"
What appear to have been recent modernization efforts have been effective. Facilities are good, the staff is well trained and accommodating, and the location is very good. No complaints. A super critical nit picker might comment on the stains on the grout in the shower, and the dead in-room telephone (one of two - the other one worked fine) but even […] the super critical nit picker would stay here again. "Good hotel, but be careful about your bill."
Overall we are happy about this experience. The hotel bed is extremely comfortable. One bad thing is that when we checkout, we find out that they charged us more money about valet parking. We only use valet parking once, but they charged us twice.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Cute hotel: hideous noise levels at night"
Cute hotel - very stylish - but I will never go back because of problems with noise. In the evenings, the bar (which is nice) has a dj playing very loud, obnoxious dance tech music. And on Friday and Saturday night during my stay, there was a private party playing additional, extremely loud, pounding dance tracks - so loud I couldn't block it out with […] earplugs in my room on the 9th floor. This went on till midnight or so - I called the front desk; I spoke the the manager on duty - no luck. I'm in a rock band, but this was just awful. The businiess travelers staying in the hotel obviously have a lower priority than the bar and party clients at this venue. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

Location is perfect for exploring Gas Lamp. Beds could be more comfy and wish they had an ice dispenser on each floor, not only on even numbered floors. Pool and gym is small.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Hip, Chic and Comfortable"
This was my first time staying at The W San Diego. The public areas were hip, sleek and relatively newly redone. Fitness room and pool while small have all you need. The rooms while comfortable and clean could use some updating: rugs and desk area are a bit worn. Housekeeping while thorough was a bit taxed as it was late afternoon to early evening before […] my room was made up on each of the four days. Service was quality especially on Sunday moring for NFL games on the roof top bar which you need to check out! While convenient to Littly Italy, Cruise Ship terminal and Gas Lamp Quarter the surrounding area is a bit questionable at night...walk the wrong way and you are surrounded by bail bond shops and SD county jail. "Great honeymoon spot!"
The W is a fantastic hotel! Our only complaint is that our room's carpet was noticeably dirty and stained. Other than that the rest of the hotel and staff were superb! Very modern, chic and Urban.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Chic and Trendy for the Non-Chic and Non-Trendy."
The W Hotel feels like a club. I'm no clubber by any means, but it feels so chic and trendy and hip and I felt welcome there. The staff was superb. The room was clean. I didn't need to spend any money on the extras to enjoy the simple pleasure of a soft bed and glamorous bathroom. We ended up paying less at a local parking lot for 24 hours but in looking […] back, we should've just paid the $35 valet parking fee to avoid the headache. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Infinite comfort"
Truly enjoyable place. The room was fantastic, hotel service excellent and the bar and restaurant great. The only quibble I have is there is not free wi-fi in the rooms. You can go to the business center but the setup is confusing and not very consumer friendly. I consider myself somewhat computer savy and got a little frustrated with the setup.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Comfy hotel...."
The hotel was comfortable over all. Staff was very helpful and always gave great customer service. Only complaint is my pillows were too soft. Loved the location and accessibility to the hotel.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Good downtown location."
Very nice, upscale hotel. Good for young professionals and couples. Not a place for family vacation with kids. Parking is a hassle $35 per night and the other lots around the property are controlled by the Hotel so you dont have a choice but to get valet $35 parking.Genuine Expedia guest review

"nice stay"
a typical hotel room when you look at the size/layout, just appointed nicely to not feel like it so much, but still, bathroom when you walk in, then average sized room with bed on one wall and long table on opposite wall... nice window seat in room to read if you do that on your room on vacationGenuine Expedia guest review
"W is for Worst"
We selected the W Hotel b/c we'd heard great things about the one in LA. If the W wants to maintain its good name, they should either close down the one in SD or seriously revamp the operations. Check in time was 3pm, they did not have our room until 6pm. After we complained, they gave us $25 credit per room. I understand it was a holiday weekend (Labor […] Day), but if you are in the hospitality business, it shouldn't be a surprised that your hotel would be full. We wasn't happy about having to wait three hours, but I am giving a bad review is due to the disorganization and careless attitude of the staff. Either everyone who assisted us was new at the job, or just don't care. The "Whatever Desk" is a joke because whatever you ask they refer you to the Front Desk. For example, while waiting, we wanted to go to the pool (which is very small compare to the way it is portrait on the website). To get in the pool, we need the key, so I went to the Whatever desk to ask for a key (since we don't have our own room key yet). They told me "you don't need a key to go into the pool area" (I guess they expected me to stick my hand through the hole and push the door open from the other side), I am capable of doing that, but that is no way to service your guest. There are more bad experiences but I don't have time to write them all. The only good service we received was from the valet guys, who we later found out they were sub-contracted, therefore, we couldn't apply the $25 credit toward it. "Great hotel for a romantic get away"
Great hotel for couples without children. Perfect for adults who want to hang out downtown San Diego and have a good time. The rooftop lounge is very pleasant: unique cocktails, great music and service.Genuine Expedia guest review
Great hotel with comfortable rooms, a trendy bar and good service. The only negative i have which prevents them getting a five was that housekeeping knocked at 7am and then again at 8.30 on a holiday weekend even though we had a do not disturb sign up.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Whatever/Whenever...not all the time"
The service is great and everyone is helpful (they even sent out post cards---nice touch). The only thing was they have a Whatever/Whenever motto however, when I ordered a chocolate cake through room service for my wife (last attempt to make up for not getting her a birthday cake) I requested a small candle and they said they didn't have one and left […] it at that. Their motto seems a bit contradictory at that point in time. I would still stay there for our next trip down because of their customer service at front desk, house keeping and valet! Excellent! "Nice hotel... Sad pool!"
Pool area is so sad. Planned on lounging by the pool all afternoon with my husband and friends that drive down from Orange County. The pool is the size of a large hot tub and there were literally only 8 lounge chairs. Their is a bar area up the stairs to lounge in but no pool up there. Location is great and staff was super friendly.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Outside the hustle and bustle of Gaslamp"
Our stay was excellent - a clean and comfortable and 'cool' room with nice amenities. The Rooftop Bar (and nearby pool) are on the Second Floor roof over the restaurant - not nearly as exciting as the expected bar and pool on the 20th floor! But still a cool and relaxing spot with a good vibe. Hotel is within walking distance of the Gaslamp District […] for dining and entertainment, and the hotel offers a free shuttle (but you must reserve it or it is unavailable and has limited hours). Extremely friendly and helpful staff, from valet to front desk to bar and maid service. We'd readily stay again and enjoyed it all. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Sexy times at the pool??"
Had a great stay at the W San Diego! Nothing like a relaxing weekend in wine country. The hotel was very clean and centrally located. The only problem we had was the late night rabble rousing going on at the pool. There were several hooligans in the pool (in their tighty whitey's) having a splash fight and making all kinds of noise. But besides that […] we highly recommend this hotel!
