The location of the Paradise Point resort is spectacular. The bungalow rooms are lovely. The service could have used a little polish, however. In... particular the Barefoot restaurant, which is the more casual of the restaurants, and the only one open for breakfast. The service was ok, but could have been a little better. More attention to detail is needed. For example making sure there is someone to greet, or it the host is busy that waitstaff are at least saying hello someone will be right with you. by a Hotels.com guest on 05/13/13

    Overview

Location. The Paradise Point Resort and Spa in San Diego, Calif., is located on a 44-acre peninsula in Mission Bay Park. The resort features landscaped gardens and tropical lagoons and is surrounded by golden sandy beaches. The resort is less than one mile from SeaWorld San Diego and Mission Beach. San Diego's historic Old Town is less than four miles away.
Hotel Features. Baleen Restaurant offers menu items including Grilled Mahi-Mahi Filet. The Barefoot Bar and Grill features patio dining and provides occasional live music performances. A fitness center is on site. Spa Terre features pampering services including the Javanese Lulur Royal Treatment, Samunprai-Thai Herbal Heat Energizer and the Milk and Honey Body Wrap. Conference rooms and a business center are available, as is wireless Internet access. The property's five pools include a main pool encircled by a sandy beach. Additional amenities include five championship tennis courts, a basketball and a volleyball court, an 18-hole putting course, table tennis, croquet and rental bicycles. A private marina offers boat and watercraft rentals. The property hosts a children's camp during summer months.

Guestrooms. The 462 single-level bungalows of the Paradise Point Resort and Spa offer private, garden-view or beachfront patios. Ebony-finished four-poster beds, vivid fabrics and pale canary walls are accented by voluminous amounts of natural light cascading from floor-to- ceiling windows in each room. Bathrooms host marble vanities and cascading showerheads. Room amenities include high-speed Internet access. Refrigerators are provided in each room. Select rooms offer minibars.

Expert Tip. Due to the Paradise Point Resort and Spa's size, guests occasionally lose their way while navigating this expansive property. Taking a map is recommended for exploring the grounds, but take comfort in knowing that hotel bell staff will always shuttle wayward wanderers back to familiar surroundings.

This resort was very cute and convenient. It had a great pool/lounge area that I took my kids to daily. If i didn't want to get in the pool, I would sit and enjoy some cocktails and snacks from the poolside bar. The location of this resort was great. Half a mile from seaworld. The beaches were close, downtown is a short drive away. The only problem […] I had with this resort was that when we went to our room (a garden facing villa) the room smelled musty and dank when we entered. The bathroom sink and tub areas had hair from previous guests still stuck in them. And the coffee cups had collected dust from not being used. Also, when we came back to the resort the next night, housekeeping forgot to clean our room. That was a huge disappointment. After check-out, we saw that we had to pay for parking, which wasn't listed when we booked the hotel. All in all, I don' think we will stay here again if we come back to San Diego. Read more

It was a surprise to me that they charge for parking. Up to $35.00 a day to park your own car near your room. The restaurants are good. The walls are then. We could hear toilets flushing in adjacent rooms. There are no dressers in the rooms, you are forced to live out of your suitcase. Response by Paradise Point Resort & Spa Thank you for the feedback on your stay with us. We regret to hear you were surprised by our parking fee; we make an effort to fully disclose all fees during booking and during check-in. We believe our reserved doorstep parking adds great value, safety, and convenience to your stay, and the cost is competitively priced with other hotels in the area. We hope this does not deter you from staying with us again and that you will return to our hotel the next time you are coming to San Diego. Best, David Hall, General Manager

Our disappointment started with the surprise $36/night parking fee. We were told the alternative is I park a mile away in a residential neighborhood. Next was a room in disrepair from the broken entryway light fixture to the moldy curtains, to the old, cracking bathroom. We came from another place in San Diego at Hal the price that was twice as nice. […] In the 1970's this place was probably great. Now it is rotting away. So many great places near by. I feel sorry for the families and honeymooners duped into staying here a whole week! Read more

Response by Paradise Point Resort & Spa Bob, thank you for taking the time to write a review on your stay. We make every effort to be up front about the cost of our reserved doorstep parking prior to arrival and believe there is great value in the safety and convenience it brings our guests. Our visitors also have the budget- and eco-friendly alternative of utilizing our all-electric car-sharing program while in San Diego. We regret to hear that our unique bungalow-style rooms did not meet your expectations; they underwent a $20 million renovation a few years ago and have since been awarded the AAA Four-Diamond award for excellence. Our distinctive tropical island setting and waterfront accommodations can’t be found elsewhere in San Diego, and we hope these features will bring you back for another stay in the future. We were pleased with the service, pleasant and cheerful. The bedroom area was updated, however, the bathroom with cracked sink bowl, lose toilet and towel bars with cracks through old tile was the worst. If you decide to stay here because of the location just ask many questions... Sunday morning at nine am they were jackhammering outside of cafe, we […] ordered room service...food was good but no table was provided even upon request so we ate on our beds...and watched limited viewing TV...we were glad that we planned the day away from the hotel. Paradise Point is a family favorite. We have been coming to this resort for years and have always enjoyed our stay because there is several things for the kids to enjoy without having to leave the resort. On the last stay our rooms that we were given when we checked in were probably the worst rooms you could get at Paradise Point but we complained to […] staff and they moved us to a much better location without any delays. Everything was ok when we arrived until the next day when we found out I had to pay 32$ for parking a night. What a rip off. First they should've mentioned that from the get go. Had I known about the parking fee we would've stayed elsewhere. Secondly the beach is a joke. No wave just stagnant bay water. I could've stayed at home and visited a lake and […] would've been happier. Other than these two things my stay was ok. -2 stars Read more

Great location to Sea World! We stayed 5 nights. Service was good but the room was not clean enough for 4.4 rating. Since the hotel room is resort room, it did not make us feel cozy and comfortable but a little cold and mad us feel that we were in the forest. I would recomend this resort for spring or summer season not winter. I will try to stay Dana […] hotel for next visit. Read more

While most of this stay was a positive experience, I have to complain bitterly about the outrageous parking charge of $32 a night for self parking. For that price I would expect valet parking to and from my door but at Paradise Point it is for nothing more than a parking spot somewhere in the general vicinity of the room. I did complain but nothing […] was done about it - just a shrug of the shoulders as if, "Ho, hum, another complaint." Food at the Barefoot Cafe was good and the service was friendly - no complaints. However, the Baleen was a disappointment. We were celebrating several special occasions for my wife and so wanted a special meal. Fortunately she truly enjoyed hers but mine was spoiled by a massive overuse of some seasoning that I could not identify but certainly had no business being in the dish I had ordered. The location, the grounds, the gardens, the pools (although it was too cold to use them while we were there) are all big, big positives for this hotel. If only it weren't for those stupid parking fees. Read more

Looks good coming in at night. Then in the day there is bird poop every where, the place is older and showing its age. The Decor is outdated and they nickle and dime you. Has potential to be a grate place but I would not go back.

Great family hotel. I was a little nervous about the trip as I'd read some pretty bad reviews on this place but it worked out so well. We have a 16 month old and the room was perfect size for him to run around with a small kitchen area. The bar and grill was great on site, really well priced and again great with a young one. I wouldn't go there unless […] I was traveling with kids. Not really the paradise as shown on the website but so close to sea world and other attractions if that's the reason for your visit. Location is great! Very close to SeaWorld, Zoo and other activities. Resort has a small pond with ducks and other birds (my little one loves it!). At the same time rooms are outdated and cleaning is a big issue. Food in Baleen restaurant is not good. It's better to order from restaurant outside of this resort

Nice overall, relaxing atmosphere until the kids football teams moved in on both sides of my room. Their parents let kids run back and forth to the pool area as much as they wanted right by my room door which blew the relaxing feeling. Also the parking cost of $32/night is ridiculus

Rooms have no kitchen. Microwave is available , but you have to pay $20 per day to rent. There are 2 restaurants there, both way overprized and service is terrible. We didn't have a car , so we didn't have a choice , but to eat at the resort. After having 5 meals, we decided to eat outside of resort. We took a trolley tour 3 times , so we didn't have […] to eat there anymore. Not only that the service was terrible, we had to wait 20 minutes to get our meals each time and food was not even tasty. Our servers never asked if we needed anything, we had to grab forks, knives and napkins from empty tables, because our server never offered help. Rooms very clean, but old. They smelled badly. We had clean towels every day. They have 5 pools and it's close to the beach. Our son liked it. Room rates are ok, but you have to pay for everything extra. Parking outside your bangalow $32 a night, use of internet in business office $8 for 5 minutes. microwave rental $20 per night Room service - small pizza $20 breakfast starting at $13 up to over $20 - not worth it! My boyfriend and I had a fantastic time at Paradise Point hotel and resort. We got a great flight, hotel and car package on Expedia. Everything about the resort was fantastic - the pools, the ambience, the fitness room, the room, the island itself. Be aware, however, that there are extra charges for things, and they are NOT cheap. - $32 per day to […] park a car (not included in our package) - $17 per day resort fee (this was included in our package) for ping pong, basketball, tennis courts, etc. - at the Seaside Lounge on the property, four cocktails, an appetizer and a side came to $84 (including tip) Overall, it's absolutely an incredible place to stay, but be aware that you'll probably be seduced into enjoying their expensive island amenities. The resort was well kept and very pretty, but my wife and I would both again that the beds at this hotel are horrible. We paid for a king size bed and it was the most uncomfortable thing in the world, which left us longing for our own bed back home. You could fill the springs with every turn. (Horrible). We also had to deal with a large wedding venue […] which was blasting their dance music until 10pm. This made it hard to put to bed our 14 month old. One of the other issues we ran into was the tempature of the pools. One was ice cold and the second pool wasn't any warmer. My wife and I will not stay there again. Read more

Love the location. However, we had to notify the hotel staff to service our room - a little disappointment after coming back from a full day. The hotel is surrounded by peaceful beaches which was great. The patio was nice although the chairs were somewhat uncomfortable. The staff was all very friendly and helpful, particularly the clerk who checked us in. The kids loved making a bonfire on the beach at night and making s'mores. The only complaints I had were that on Sunday when we came back […] to our room after 5 pm the maid was still cleaning the room. We were waiting for her to come all afternoon and the surrounding rooms where the guests had already checked out were cleaned first. The other complaint was that while the food was fine at the Barefoot Bar and Grill the service was awful. I would not pay the rates the hotel charges except in the off season. Read more

This place was fine, nothing special! Our TV was so dark, no adjustments were available, so they replaced the TV! Same thing! It's like they darkened them to make them last longer or something! Either that or it was the cables in our room! You could barely see the picture. The staff was nice, $5 to use a computer for 10 minutes to print something, then […] a dollar a page. Ridiculous, in this day and age. $20 a day to park... That's a reduced rate! Usually $32...C'mon!! Overall, it was a good location and served its purpose, staff was helpful! Read more

This hotel is beautiful, it has 5 pools and the premises are stunning. Very tropical and the staff is very friendly. We went this past weekend to celebrate our our anniversary. The room was really nice, it overlooked a small lagoon. It had a microwave and a small refrigerator. It was comfortable. I think it would be nice if they upgraded the rooms a […] bit. Our bathroom has a sliding door that didn't work. And there is a moldy smell in the room. We walked around the premises, the bigger bungalows are right by the beach but everyone has access to the firepits. The staff knew about our anniversary and gave us cookies, a bottle of wine and a plate of fruit. Really nice. The barefoot bar was amazing. The food was really good! My recommendation to whoever reads this is to be prepared to spend 32 dollars a day for parking and 17 dollar resort fee per day. Read more
