I am a local and was excited to stay here initially, this hotel is BEAUTIFUL and in a wonderful location. However, in going along with this I expected fantastic service and was sadly disappointed. Problems with valet being full and not offering any other alternative (why don't you have overflow for guests?!), room service and the front desk not picking […] up the phone or calling us back, then taking almost an hour (and another phone call) to bring us our food. Finally, don't bother with the concierge for any night life. She will shrug her shoulders and brush you off. Very strange service for such a beautiful hotel, we sadly won't be staying here again. "Great Service, Clean Rooms, Uncomfortable Bed"
The service at this hotel was very good. The room was clean and so was the hotel. My only complaint is that the bed was not comfortable at all. Because of this, I would not recommend that someone pay the money to stay here. The pillows were bad and the bed was hard. "Very dated"

"Antique Upscale, clean but old."
This hotel is very nice, has an antique upscale feel to it. However being 4 young adults sharing a room, there were some noticeable amenities we wish were there. No pool or workout area. There is a box in the room that appears to be a refrigerator however will only keep things slightly cool, meaning do not buy any perishables and keep in "fridge". The hotel is very pretty, this was my second time staying here but this time I wasn't as satisfied as the first time. The shower water is painful, it has way too much pressure. The shower & bathroom sink water did not drain, I showered in ankle high water... Yuck! The worst part was being woken up at 6am from construction. This hotel served its purpose which was proximity to the convention center. The room is nice and clean, and the turndown service was a treat. My only major complaint was that you are charged the $15 a day resort fee. I have no problem with this, except for the fact that they did not have a resort! "Westgate Hotel - San Diego Civic Center"
The hotel was very convenient to the downtown area, Gaslight District, harbor area. Trolley tracks are right outside on Avenue C and a day pass gets you anywhere without using your car. The hotel is decorated in a high class manner but needs some updating and overall maintenance. Our biggest complaint was lack of control of temperature in our room. My first impression of the hotel was good. I enjoyed the vintage look and theme, especially in our room. The restroom/sink area is gorgeous and although the main room area is a bit plain, it is very spacious. The bed was a little rough and blankets very heavy. My only complaint towards customer service is the lack of ice. The hotel does not have public ice machines, so it has to be ordered through guest services. Our stay was on New Years Eve, so their ice orders were obviously stacked up. It took an hour and a half to receive our ice. I understand that it was a busy night, but a hotel like this should be more prepared knowing that a night like NYE would require high demand for ice. "The Westgate Hotel in San Diego"
The hotel itself is nice and is in a convenient location but, be prepared to hear EVERYTHING that happens downtown. We would awake to sirens and trucks, early in the morning. Also, the rooms share a common door, that leads to the foyer that the two rooms share, which can become a nuisance if your neighbors (like ours) get us early and like to allow […] their door to slam. Also, we orderd room service for breakfast, our first day there and, after 4 calls (throughout a 6 hour span) and a visit to the front desk, the food cart was finally removed.
