Pacific Shores Inn on Pacific Beach

Pictures on the web must have been taken at some other hotel. This is NOT a luxury motel for sure. Renovations going on there, but this is not a place for a romantic runaway. Beach close by so great place for about 15 surfer dudes to share a room on holidays and the summer. Parking terrible. Will not visit again.

While it is in a great location - walk to beach, boardwalk, restaurants and bars - the hotel is falling apart. We stayed over New Year's 2012 for 3 nights, and it was cold, well for SD. There was no heat in our room and the next morning they gave us a small room electric room heater, explaining the regular heater/AC was not working. Is it legal to rent […] a room when there is no heat/AC???? Then the next day, we (Stupidly?) ran the hair dryer AND the TV at the same time and the electricity went out! Back to the office and being told you can't do both at the same time! The staff is friendly enough but who ever owns this place should be VERY EMBARRASSED! not enough supplies (one small bottle of shampoo for three adults, no conditioner, no lotion, no in room coffee although there was a coffee pot. "Continental" breakfast was limited and stale. Wouldn't stay again.

The hotel front desk ladies were very passive aggressive. Complained to our kids every time we needed something. The didn't clean the room unless we asked and half time housekeeping was gone. The accused us of taking towels when we brought our own. Not kid friendly at all.

My door didn't have a lock other than the key, which of course someone could come in if they had one, too. I had to prop a chair to be able to sleep! The parking is dreadfully unsafe and unsecure. I felt very unsafe there...

Although the inn is near the water. It's not easy to get to. The registration staff was rude and unprofessional, and the rooms were not well kept. It was a total let down. We will never return there. Upon check in the lady at the front desk said come back at 1:30 and your room will be ready. But when we returned she was on a break and the man watching […] the desk didn't speak English and didn't know what we were talking about. They advertized that they were so close to the beach but they had no rooms facing the beach. The free breakfast was hardly adequate. Very limited. Not worth the money spent. Will never recommend this hotel.

The Good: Location is excellent, although without a view. Rooms are big and clean but thin walls. Cleaning staff is excellent, they are fast and do a good job and are polite. Requested a 2nd floor and/or updated room when we booked it and 2 days prior to arriving, was told would be no problem, when we arrived we got neither. 1st floor, older room is what we received. Rooms have a coffee maker, but they room didnt have any coffee to use. Overall, not a bad hotel, cheap and good location, but worth checking around some of the condos around the area for rent. This hotel has a pretty cool location and a friendly staff but that's about it for the positives. Our "non-smoking" room smelled like an ash tray, the plaster on the ceiling was peeling off, and the plumbing was bad. When the toilet backed up there was no one on duty to handle it, so the front desk sent up a plunger and some extra towels to mop up the […] mess. The shower didn't drain properly either. The TV remote didn't work, there was no fan in the bathroom and wi-fi is an additional charge. We weren't expecting a luxury resort for the price we paid, but this place really needs renovating. This hotel had great location but was lacking in several areas. It was close walking distance to several great spots in Pacific Beach including the beach itself and great restaurants/bars. The decor was in the process (?) of being updated with granite counter tops but very old/dated bedding and curtains. I stayed for 5 nights with my young daughter to be near the beach. It is definitely convenient to the beach, and if you don't require a bathtub, the rooms on the north side of the hotel are very nice (I asked to switch rooms and thus saw one of these, but my daughter needs a tub). All rooms with bathtubs are located *under* a dark, dirty carport. The […] carpet was so dirty that our feet got black walking from the bath to the bed. Our bathtub had a large nick with rust actively coming out, which was scary for my daughter. She didn't want to get in. The pool is advertised as heated, but it was the same temperature as the ocean water -- suffering was involved in swimming. The "breakfast" is on a small corner counter in the hotel lobby and not worth mentioning - we skipped it for the entire stay. On the plus side, the rooms under the carport have a full kitchenette with stovetop and sink, so I was able to make meals for my picky little one. The room we requested was to have one King size bed instead of two queens size. When we got there we discovered we have to pay extra for a king size something we were not aware of . The room had a dysfunctional heating system and at night temp outside would drop to the 40s and it would get cold inside. Our conclusion was if you go with a package you […] are not going to get one of the motel good or decent rooms but a "leftover".We were not aware of that either. The advertised continental breakfast was an exageration. In general the expereince was a disappointment. Probably we would have been better of to pay a little bit more and get better accomodation. it is close to the beach, which is a good thing or may I say the only good thing. The breakfast was very poor. You had to wait for the staff to restock. No soap or shampoo for our next day. A internet do hotel é paga e não funcionou. A atendente nem quis ouvir o problema, apenas informou um número de telefone para eu ligar. Ótimo!! Nem peguei o número. O box vazava bastante água, que escorria até o carpete do quarto, deixando sempre húmida a entrada do quarto, gerando mau cheiro. Eu sei que não posso esperar um atendimento 5 estrelas pelo preço que paguei, mas existe um mínimo que deve ser observado por quem se dispõe a trabalhar com hotelaria, e esse mínimo não foi observado por esse hotel em minha estadia. Die Lage ist ausgesprochen gut, für Leute die gerne Party möchten. Mein Zimmer hat komisch gerochen, meine Nachbarn machten sehr viel Krach in der Nacht. Ich würde heute eher in La Jolla buchen, in der Gegend war es vornehmer und stilvoller.

Buchung über Hotels.com war erheblich günstiger als vor Ort. Schönes sauberes Motel mit großen Zimmern und kleiner Küche. Sehr gut für Ausflüge zu SeaWorld und San Diego. In zweiter Reihe zum Meer ohne dazwischenliegende Straße... Würde ich wieder buchen.
