"Good Facility but Terrible Front Desk Service"
Had a very disappointing experience at the hotel. We stayed one night and had to wake up early in the morning. The room was clean but the sink was broken, the walls are very thin (we actually heard the person in the neighboring room talk on the phone as if he was in our room!). All this seems just fine comparing to the attitude of the front desk worker. […] When we asked to switch rooms (very politely) the front desk lady told us she will try to "kick some people out" and move others around. She had a terrible attitude, was passive agressive, and just plain rude. We got to the hotel in a great mood and after merely checking in felt irritated. I love DoubleTree hotels and try to stay there on my trips but I will never come back here again or recommend it to anyone. You can get better service for the price. If you are staying here, keep in mind you have to pay a pretty penny for parking and make sure you don't get a room with a connecting door to a neighboring room. This hotel is in a great location--less than 1 mile from the mall, less than 200 feet from trolley station, and has several restaurants in the vicinity from which you can walk to/from. "Could Be Better"
My primary objection was the cleanliness of the room - something that has to be taken seriously. In a five day stay the bed linens were changed only once, vacuuming was spotty, dusting minimal etc. Room was large, hotel looks nice, front desk is helpful. We had a great stay except the checkin was delayed due to training of front desk person, questioned my credit card due to third party involvement and was a bit embarassing, then hotel room was smelly, found out gas was coming up through toilet, smelled foul. Lots of families with uncontrolled kids made for a bit of stress. Location right off of I-8 and next to a major mall means that you will not get a very good night of rest. "where do I begin?"
First of all, this is NOT a reflection of the staff but of management who in their pursuit to keep costs down decide not to hire front desk staff at key hours. It took me 45 minutes to check in. then they did not have internet and to me not having internet is a lot like not having a private bathroom in your hotel room. The room key did not open the […] garage and there was no one answering the button you push to communicate with the garage people so I had to leave the car in front of the garage exit with that wooden stick that guards you from exiting without paying and go to the hotel lobby to get someone to get me out. (they comped my parking for that). In spite of these inconveniences, the staff really did what they could (I know I would have lost it after a while). I was visiting on business. Even though I called ahead to confirm my reservation the day before and again hours before I arrived...they used the usual excuse of "water" problem in the room. They were "prepared" to take me to another hotel. That was unacceptable to me so I told them to look harder and find me a room. They did and they found a room. it […] was great once that was over. My nonsmoking room smelled fine until I got into the hallway of the nonsmoking rooms...wow did it smell like a bar. The hotel is reasonably priced for its location and amenities. However a few things were very irritating. First, the check in was unbelievably slow because only one person working even at peak hours such as check in and check out. The parking situation is strange. "A real let down"
DoubleTree in the hotel circle of San Diego really isn't worth your money. 1) The room wasn't in a very good shape, there was a huge ink stain on the desk, a lot of the furniture was damaged, the shower didn't work properly: even when I activated the shower, half the water would still leave through the bottom fosset and the drain was clogged to the […] point where I had water passed my ankles by the time I was done. 2) Small (non HD) TV with a very small number of channels. Considering I had just spent 4 days in a cheaper Travelodge with a big HD TV and over 200 channels, that was kinda surprising to me from a hotel like DoubleTree. 3) No free internet in the rooms, at least, in theory. You may get lucky if you're on the 2nd floor and catch the bad lobby internet that disconnects you every hour. In fact, if you are on the 2nd floor, you're probably stuck with that internet. I was meeting a coworker there and the lobby internet wasn't good enough for our needs, so we paid for the internet in our room, but we were never able to connect to anything but the lobby internet. 4) The pillows are terrible. You might as well sleep on a sheet of paper. They look puffy, but the moment you lay your head on them, they flatten to a point where you wonder if there was anything inside them but air. 5) The price at their breakfast restaurant are outrageous. 7$ for oatmeal? Not a good oatmeal mind you. 6) No free parking and the parking is kind of expensive. All in all, the rates may look low for this kind of hotel, but as soon as you get in the room, you really see where they cut the budget and you'll feel like they'll make up for the cheap rate by charging you big time for everything else!
