San Diego’s waterfront airport lies northwest of downtown, which is home to the San Diego Convention Center, PetCo Park stadium, and the Gaslamp Quarter’s. That historic neighborhood’s restaurants and bars are the hub of the city’s nightlife. Balboa Park and the San Diego Zoo form a green swath in this urban jungle. The place is a bit drabby. It didn't live up to its price.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Comfort in the heart of the Gaslamp"
Great service by the staff. Excellent location for exploring the restaurants and clubs downtown. Not the quietest location for a vacationing family, but it was very comfortable.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"This place is great!"
Very reasonable price for the quality of the room and service from the staff. This place will be visited again by me in the near future.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The location was excellent and within walking distance to several venues. The staff was very pleasant, however, I was very disappointed with the facility overall. The room was a little smaller than I expected and it was very dusty. The housekeeper came in at least 2 of the 4 days during my stay to "tidy" up and refresh the towels, but did not provide […] any further cleaning. Also, I ran out of water everyday, on several occasions, whether I was taking a shower or using water from the sink. I will not be recommending this hotel to others. "Awesome place to rest and relax"
The most comfortable bed, quiet and able to blackout windows you can sleep all day. Hot hot water, super remodel of an old Gaslamp property. 10 min walk to Petco and in the middle of Gaslamp - never drove while there. Sketchy wifi not free but good free avail locally. Super rooftop view and breakfast. Best value on hotels.com!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
$30 for parking seemed steep. Extra for WiFi was not welcome. But the part I disliked most was the poor poor "continential" breakfast.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Retro styling in no-frills hotel"
With the hotel created from an old office building, they had the basic amenities and it was pretty close to many stores and restaurants. The rooms were small but very comfortable.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Too much late night noise"
It sounded like a riot outside until after 3am. I did not get enough sleep.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"OK but won't be my "go-to" place"
Room was not nearly as spacious as photo led me to believe (definitely not a suite by any stretch!). Actually a bit cramped. Bed was not that comfortable and seemed ready for retirement. Good location and could walk to where I needed to go. Overall, served my purpose, but for the price expected more. Will look for a different place first before choosing […] here again. "Parking and Staff"
Parking is too expensive $30 a day for valet. The staff was great . The Gaslamp Plaza Suites a boutique hotel with a fantasizing history. Mary at the front desk was friendly and helpful besides sharing the history of the building with us. It is actually a diamond in the rough. Only downside is the parkingGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Not bad for a night or two"
The room was spacious and clean. I didn't like the fact that there was a $12-$13 surcharge per day of internet service or a $30/night valet parking fee. I parked on the street. Great proximity to a bunch of restaurants/bars/shops. Staff was friendly and helpful.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Beautiful, quirky hotel"
I booked three rooms in this hotel for me and my students. We all absolutely loved it! It has a great atmosphere and we were all very comfy. The suites were spacious and the students loved that their rooms had two bathrooms. The breakfast was fine (lots of pastry, toast, oatmeal, cereal, apples, juice). The views from the rooftop were beautiful. If […] I had to have one recommendation, it would be to have some more fruit (bananas?) as a breakfast option. But we loved our stay. "Great hotel stay!!!!"
We had a great time! We were in SD for a convention and was able to walk back and forth easily and safely. The staff was wonderful and catered to our every need. The continental breakfast was convenient and definitely a plus, however we wish there was more variety. Also parking was a little pricey through the valet service and I decided to park at another […] parking garage. Overall it was a great stay and I would definitely recommend this hotel! "Convenient, Clean, Comfortable"
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Gaslamp Plaza Suites! The staff were all very helpful and accommodating. Our room was clean and spacious. The continental breakfast was sufficient, but don't be expecting anything fancy. The location could not have been better for events at the convention center or just enjoying the Gaslamp Quarter, and the view of […] the city and sunrise/sunset from the rooftop was beautiful! "Fun Historic Hotel, bring earplugs though"
Convenient location in Gaslamp District in downtown San Diego, and intriguing historic hotel. Staff were polite and helpful. Melting Pot restaurant next door was also enjoyable. Guest room doors are secure but old-fashioned with glass panels in the middle, so you can hear EVERYTHING going on in the hallway (i.e. loud inebriated conversations). Bring […] some earplugs and you won't really notice. Breakfast was sort of lame (bagels on Wednesday and Friday, otherwise just toast and pastries), but Starbucks is a block away. Close to an excellent Aghan restaurant, Chopahn, and many other tasty eateries. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Solid!"
Nice older hotel with a great location relative to being RIGHT downtown!! Nice one room suite for half of what a regular room at one of the more popular hotels was! Included a continental breakfast, I was generally very pleased.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Diamond in the rough"
This was a great place to stay in the Gaslamp -- The location is perfect to walk everywhere -- We loved the fact that it was an converted old office building where they maintained allot of the old interior with nice marble and wood -- We were joking that in a pinch, this would be a great place to live -- It's not a new Hilton but this place definitely […] has character -- The staff was great -- Get a room up high as the street noise might pose a problem (especially on weekends) -- If they'd bring the valet parking cost down from $30 a night that would be a selling point Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Great alternative for my conference lodging"
I stayed here to attend a conference that was held at a hotel next to the convention center. It was much more affordable to stay at the Gaslamp Plaza Suites, and it had a lot more character than the big conference-style hotels. I'd been concerned about whether it might be too far from the conference hotel and whether it would be safe to walk back alone […] at night, but it was fine. It was about a twenty minute walk (if walking reasonably quickly), and there were plenty of people on the street if I walked back along 5th Avenue. (There are a lot of restaurants and night life along there.) The room itself was lovely, and I loved the old-fashioned boutique-y feel to everything. The rooftop terrace was really nice, and having breakfast up there beat any other hotel breakfast buffet hands down. The actual buffet wasn't very extensive, as others have mentioned, but two days a week they included bagels and cream cheese along with the standard cereal, bread, and pastry options. Wifi wasn't included in the room price, but access for a week was $19.95, so that wasn't too bad for a five-night stay. All in all, I couldn't have been more pleased with my stay, and I saved a bundle by not staying at the conference hotel. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"TINY Room"
Staff was great! Room was VERY small. Lucky I was traveling alone. The "Continental Breakfast" was laughable. Parking - should have used the open lot next door or down the block - $$/night. Made the room rate much less attractive. Would look elsewhere next time.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Reasonably priced"
Well kept interior of a studio sized room without a view.it served my need for a overnight stay to catch the plane next morning. The hotel was at a walking distance to nice restaurants.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The area is very noisey and getting a good night's sleep is difficult without earplugs. Not only is there a great deal of noise from the street, but interior doors slamming are also a problem. Once again, you will need earplugs if you're used to sleeping in a quiet environment.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Gaslamp Plaza Suites - close to great restaurants"
I was a little reticent when I walked into the lobby, but the rooms are very nice. They are warm and inviting. The service was very good. "Gaslamp Plaza Suites--Good value"
This hotel is very convenient to the Gaslamp District as you may infer from its name. It's close to Horton Plaza shopping. I walked the six blocks or so to the Convention Center easily. The staff was quite friendly and helpful. The pull lever to switch the water to the shower in the bathtub was hard to lift and it was fixed promptly when I reported […] it. The room was good size, though not a suite in the sense of two separate rooms. It has a broad selection of cable TV stations offered. It also had a large closet, which is nice. The one small peeve is that the desk did not have electric plugs on or under it, so I had to run the cord for my computer to the outlet on the wall and be careful not to trip over it. The other thing to note is that the Gaslamp District is noisy on Friday night, not on the other weeknights I stayed there. So if that bothers you, you might ask for a room that does not face the street. All in all, it was a good hotel and I'd stay there again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
