The service at the hotel was excellent: friendly, helpful, and professional. However, we did have some difficulty reaching anyone from our room in order to get a non-feather pillow sent up to us. For over an hour there was no answer at housekeeping or the front desk when we called from the room and we finally had to get dressed again and go downstairs […] to the lobby to find someone. This was only at 8:30 in the evening, not the middle of the night. Unfortunately, our room was in need of repair. There was a large amount of black mold growing around the window frame in the bathroom, paint was peeling on the walls and ceiling in the bathroom, the windows had huge gaps in them letting in torrents of outside air which meant that the room heater had to run all night to keep the temp warm and it was quite loud, and the curtains had a tear and had fallen off the curtain rings several places (not a big deal but didn't give the impression of a well kept-up luxury room). The location is very convenient but there is a very run-down hotel opposite and we had a view of half-naked guys hanging out of rooms with broken and dirty windows. There was a lot of street noise from people out at the local bars as well. The lobby is beautiful and the bar is nice. Overall an OK experience. Not sure if we'd stay again. "One night stay with the whole family"
The hotel is beautiful and we booked it because it seemed nice to stay here around Christmas. It wasn't cheap, but the rate was ok for such a nice hotel. However, they charge you for other things, that add up. We had a quick bite to eat, nothing special and they charged us gratuity because we are a family of six; a huge bill for nothing special.The […] parking was 35 dollars and for breakfast, the day after we decided to go elsewhere because it is so expensive. Our room was absolutely beautiful!, but very noisy at night. Since the building is old, it does not at all keep the outside noise outside, like the modern hotels do. Bathroom was stunning too, but there was an awful smell coming from the sink that made the whole bathroom stink. Hotel was nice although the TV in the room wasn't working correctly (we didn't get all of our channels), the bathroom had a moldy odor to it and we couldn't get the room cold enough (thermostat said 65 degrees but it was definitely warmer than that).Service staff was excellent and the hotel is in a great location. "Very Disappointed!"
Booked our room and with the reservation we were supposed to get an upgrade to a better room on check-in. Upon check-in we were told that there were no upgrades available since the hotel was fully booked. We received our room keys and went to our room. The key wouldn't work and there was someone currently in the room. We went back down to the front […] desk and told them that there was someone still in the room we were just given. They seemed confused but quickly gave us an upgraded room. I don't understand how they could upgrade us now when initially they told us they were booked out? We went to our new room. The room was a decent size and was upgraded a bit but you could still tell that the hotel is very old. The windows were filthy and there were no child locks on the windows. We could open them up fully and our children, if they wanted, could easily fall out. Housekeeping failed to clean our room on one occasion. One night we returned to our room and our key wouldn't work. We sat outside in the hallway with our 2 young children for 30 minutes while they figured out the problem. Apparently the battery had died in the key card opener. I will say that the hotel is in an excellent location in the heart of the Gaslamp area in downtown but for the price it isn't worth it. There are many newer hotels for the same price in the area that I will stay at next time. I don't understand how this hotel can be give 5 stars??? I wouldn't rate it better than 2-1/2 Stars at best!! This hotel is located in a great part of San Diego. Many things are within walking distance. The mandatory hotel valet makes things convenient, but comes at a high price $$/night. However, valets seemed appreciative of tips rather than expecting them. The rooms were nice and clean and the hotel is beautiful on the inside. While the service was good […] and friendly, many times the attention to detail was poor. This was across the board: room service forgetting part of the order, housekeeping failing to leave enough tissue, and front desk recording only half of maintenance issues (nothing major, just burnt light bulbs). The biggest service problem was that the valet never answered their extension and bell services did not arrive for over 30 minutes when we were checking out. We were told that they would be up right away and we were leaving several hours before checkout, so this was very poor performance. We booked a suite for the extra space and a separate sitting area. We were traveling with two young kids. The suite we got was really tight. What a shame this gorgeous and historic hotel is located next to an SRO flop house, the County Court House bums and a Greyhound bus station. Tätä hotellia suosittelen mielelläni myös muille San Diegon alueella matkustaville. Jo ensimmäiset askeleet hotellin aulassa kertoi hotelllin tason. Hotellin sijainti on loistava. Se on keskellä kaupunkia, monien ravintolakatujen tuntumassa. Myös ostosmahdollisuudet ovat aivan hotellin tuntumassa. Keskustan kodittomat ihmiset nukkuivat lähikaduilla […] sekä viereisten kauppojen ovilla, joka oli ympäristön pisteitä laskeva asia. Huonepalvelu ja siivous sujui todella mallikkaasti. Huoneet olivat meidän viisi henkiselle perheelle ihan sopivat. Ikkunoista oli mahtavat näkymät Broadwaylle sekä tv-studion uutisotsikoihin. Hotelli on myös kävelymatkan päässä satamasta, josta on hyvät lauttayhteydet Coronadoon. Aamiaiset kävimme nauttimassa lähellä olevassa kahvilassa (Panera?), joten emme käyttäneet hotellin ravintolapalveluita. Valet-parking toimi todella nopeasti ja henkilökunta oli ystävällistä. "Det er her man skal bo"
US Grant - det er her man skal bo. Qua mit arbejde har jeg har boet på mange hoteller verden over og på mange hoteller med frygtelig mange stjerner og nogle af dem med fem stjerner ligesom USA Grant. Men forskellen på US Grant og de andre femstjernede hoteller er, at US Grant lever op til dem. Alt er bare i top på dette hotel - hotellets beliggenhed […] lige midt i det hele, hotellets indretning, hotelværelset og - ikke mindst - serviceniveauet. Man skal godt nok vidt omkring for at finde så søde, imødekommende og hjælpsomme mennesker, som dem der tager sig af gæsterne på US Grant. Og så er det ligegyldigt, om man kommer i business outfit eller i noget meget mere ferieagtigt, sådan som min familie gjorde på vores tre ugers succesfulde rundrejse i Californien (succesfulde - når ellers vi lige ser bort fra, at vi undervejs fik skybruds-oversvømmelse i kælderen hjemme i Hellerup). Så konklusionen: Jeg forstår godt den status, US Grant har. Om vi ikke manglede noget?
