"Horton Plaza., Gas Lamp,"
My wife and I stay at only two hotels in San Diego and this is one of the two. The U.S. Grant is an old iconic hotel which is right in the middle of where you want to be in San Diego. It is always clean and the staff is very friendly making sure you are taken care of. Though this hotel is very pricey, being so close to everything makes up for it since […] we didn't rent a car and we either walked or took public transit, which is very efficient in SD. My only complaint of this hotel is the price, but it is so nice I really can't complain. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Lovely historic hotel"
We stayed overnight to catch a nearby concert. Fabulous location; very easy to get to using public transportation. The hotel is beautifully restored with elegant rooms. Very luxurious and comfy beds, nice amenities. Some of the woodwork/mouldings in our room were grimy. Only real complaint was the demolition noise across the street that started at 7 […] a.m.; it sounded like WWI in our room. Would stay again in a heartbeat once construction is done, though! Overall nice hotel. A little old but I enjoyed that. I didn't enjoy the construction at 7am Sunday morning doing demolition. I didn't get to sleep in like I had planned.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Great classy hotel, decor and ambiance is beautiful, location is perfect, staff was great, reception/lobby is grand. However, our room is a bit noisy from the construction, traffic, and probably lack of proper insulation since we can hear people's voices from the hallway. Also, for a 5 star hotel, there is no pool, not sure if there was a gym either […] :( Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
A beautiful, elegant hotel with impeccable service. While the hotel exudes old world charm, the rooms are comfortable and modern, with the exception that the air conditioning didn't keep the room cool enough at night.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Details count"
This hotel has a great history and appears to provide a luxurious experience. This was my second time staying at this hotel because my first experience was phenomenal. This time around there was a slight difference, employees were courteous and helpful as usual but other details were missed. I was on the fourth floor and the first thing I noticed walking […] through the hallway was a subtle smell of mildew. Once I got in the room everything looked normal until I had to use the phone to order room service, it didn't work! Then I went to use the TV and that too didn't work! An engineer was sent to the room to fix both problems in a matter of minutes. I also expressed my concern to the front desk at check out. Overall this hotel is great but I am concerned with some aspects of their maintenance. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Classic old hotel in mint condition. Excellent and well trained staff.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice stay, for an older hotel"
Really great friendly staff, room service was prompt and on time. Bed was amazingly comfortable. Room was small but clean and cozy. Only complaint is that there were weird stains on the floors in the halls. We thought we were walking in a haunted hotel. I think that if they updated their floors and just a couple things here and there, they could really […] up the rating easily. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good hotel close to Gaslamp District"
Hotel was nice although the TV in the room wasn't working correctly (we didn't get all of our channels), the bathroom had a moldy odor to it and we couldn't get the room cold enough (thermostat said 65 degrees but it was definitely warmer than that).Service staff was excellent and the hotel is in a great location. Workout room was excellent.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great Location ! Gaslamp close to evetyhing."
Let's start with WHAT I LIKED ABOUT IT : Great front desk guest service, warm welcome from the the valet guys. THE BAD PART OF IT : The bell boy was nice and courteous but he grabbed our luggage put them on the rack and took us to the front desk, I tipped him $ 5 and then he disappeared. We had to push the luggage cart to our room :( . The room was very […] nice, but on our way to our room (3rd floor ) we noticed on some of the walls a LOT OF WHITE SCUFF MARKS (the walls are blue with prints on them ). The room does NOT offer coffee for the next morning and our BATHROBES had ripped belts on them. Later on that night, my wife and I decided to get some desert and my wife loves CHEESE CAKE, SORRY the restaurant does not carry CHEESE CAKE :( for the quality of hotel they are claiming to be they need to pay more attention to detail ! The room was delayed for availablity and the room was quite warm. When asked to cool it down, they said it only goes to 65 (a warm 65). The breakfasts were delicious. The best thing was the concierge, Brooks. He was extremely helpful and was able to answer all of my questions. The hotel should be VERY proud to have him as an employee. The room was quiet. […] I was told if you face the garden, it is the quietest. I think if it were a true 5 star hotel, the bird poo would be gone off the window sils. Overall, I enjoyed my stay. "Classic downtown San Diego hotel"
Excellent choice for downtown San Diego Hotel! Very charming and classic feel. The hotel staff was very friendly and the rooms were clean and comfortable. It was a little loud in our room from the street noise, but otherwise, the hotel was fantastic! Definitely would stay here again!Genuine Expedia guest review

Across from mall where a lot of homeless hang out. Other than that it was very nice.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great location & great staff!"
We enjoyed our stay and would stay their again. It's in a great location and everyone on the staf was very friendly and informative. $35 night for parking seemed a bit high, but then I don't know the area so it may be the norm. There were a couple of minor things we noticed as an fyi: Light bulb was out over bed & could not get water in sink to become […] cold (always hot). But enjoyed our stay & would stay their again! "Historic fancy with a questionable view"
We stayed at the US Grant Hotel for one night during our honeymoon. The Hotel is beautiful and historic but the neighborhood is somewhat questionable. The view from our room was of a transient community on a street below. Top notch service from the staff that could not have been better. Room wasn't immediately available to us at 6:30pm due to housekeeping […] which was odd but cleared up within minutes. We would recommend to anyone wanting history in a downtown setting. "Beautiful hotel... but housekeeping was slow."
This is a beautiful hotel in a great location. My only complaint about this hotel is that we returned to our room at 2:45 PM and it still had not been made up. We were exhausted from a day at Sea World and were looking forward to an afternoon snooze.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Great hotel- close to everything- great service"
Great stay, nice clean rooms, brought us an anniversary tray and a fridge that we requested. Complimentary water daily which was nice. Parking is very expenisce at the hotel but it is convenient. Very nice bell staff and front desk. Helpful concierge. The only downfall is the noise. We were in room 638 overlooking 4th ave. all we heard all day/ night […] when we were in the room were ambulances, police and firetrucks going buy. One day we counted 12 times and we were only in the room to sleep, shower and change. Let's just say it was not a very good nights sleep those 3 nights we stayed. Other than that everything else was great! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Very Clean Rooms, Comfortable Stay"
The hotel lobby was beautiful. Valet services was professional and fast. The in-hotel restaurant was high priced but quality food and service. We had three issues with this hotel. One was the room size. We ordered a King, but were given a Full Size bed. The room was very nice, but vit was compact, very small. They didn't have a full body mirror either. The […] other issue was the noise we heard everytime the elevator was operated. Our room was next door to the shaft and we heard the constant rumbling of the mechanics as it operated. The third issue was the lobby area up on the levels where the rooms are accessed. We noticed some debris, that needed cleaning. That lobby felt dark, lonely, and forgotten because no windows, mirrors and the minor debris left there. Overall, though, nice hotel and felt comfortable laying my head down each night! That's what counts. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Nice Overall"
The "Legacy Suite" was really not as described. In the Expedia Description, the "sitting area" is described as being "large" but in fact is quite small. I had thought the area would be larger for the price of the room. It is more of a waste of space and takes away from the overall suite. I have been in non-suites in this hotel and they are much larger […] and roomier, at least in feel if not in square footage. The bathroom was HUGE! However, the shower, although large, does not drain well while in use as there is no pitch to the floor. There was no tub either which I would have been upset if I was with someone. The hotel is excellent will like to stay again, the only thing that I did not like was the surcharges for parking 35 dollars a day, the price is good, but it should appear in the HOTEL.COM charges.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice hotel"
Room was nice with amenities, but no drawer space to put things. The "No option" for at hotel parking was okay, but pricey....San Diego is not Chicago. Other than that it was a great location for walking in the downtown area, Gasiight District, etc. We enjoyed it.Genuine Expedia guest review
"."
The staff was very friendly but there were random gaps in the service that kept popping during our 1 night stay, for ex. it took over 30 mins for valet to bring up our luggags, we had to call them 2-3 timex. We called for our car to be brought out before we came downstairs but they never got the message. We had late dessert and coffee in the bar/restaurant […] and it was very poor quality. The Hotel is beautiful, smallish rooms though, but very nicely done. The location in gaslamp is great. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Beware the Valet!"
Everything was great except the valet. Valet did not inform me of charges, so for a one night stay I was charged $35 for valet parking. Guess I should read the fine print or ask more questions.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great location, loud"
great gaslamp location. walk to everything, restaurants, bars, petco. quick drive to coronado. only problem, is its loud. street noise and sirens come through pretty clearly. so if you're there for good night's sleep, this isn't the place. fun location and out late, this is great.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"A 5 Star Hotel but where is the coffee"
I don't think asking for a cup of coffee at 6:20 in the morning is unreasonable. People leave for airports early and I, for one, like having a cup of coffee for the road. It would be easy to have coffee service in the lobby available for the early AM departing guests. When I asked if there was coffee available the correct response would have been "let […] me get you some. How do you take it?" Not "the restaurant is not open yet". Lack of coffee would not prevent me from staying here again just seems like a missed guest service opportunity. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"great location and design but small rooms"
we stayed here for a night when we were in san diego for our friend's wedding. there were 3 of us in a room with 2 double beds. although everything was gorgeous, the room just seemed small. for some reason the lobby area around the elevators is huge, but the elevators themselves are tiny and the rooms are small as well. i don't know if this is just […] because of the age of the hotel. also, it seemed like there were some weird stains on the carpet in the hallways. i would stay here again, but only if i got the room for half price like i did this time. "US Grant Hotel San Diego"
Positive: Beautiful old hotel that has been refurbished very nicely. Room was clean, elegantly outfitted and bed comfortable.
