We have included all charges provided to us by this hotel. However, charges can vary, for example, based on length of stay or the room you book.
San Diego’s waterfront airport lies northwest of downtown, which is home to the San Diego Convention Center, PetCo Park stadium, and the Gaslamp Quarter’s. That historic neighborhood’s restaurants and bars are the hub of the city’s nightlife. Balboa Park and the San Diego Zoo form a green swath in this urban jungle. Offshore, Coronado Island offers postcard views of the city skyline.

It was a great location, but the carpet in halllways and rooms was EXTREMELY stained and dirty. There was a smell of urine on the floor I stayed on. I was very disappointed with the lack of help when I checked in. We asked to stay in joining room and wait about 4 hours for this to happen and they still didn't make this happen. No one offered to help […] with our bags when we checked in. The air conditioner in my room didn't work very well it was always hot in my room. I don't feel that this hotel should have a rating of 5 stars. The only good thing about this hotel was the location. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Not a place to stay with your kids"
I know Downtown is not a very family friendly area but we had to stay in the area for a particular reason and being that this is supposed to be a 5 Star hotel I thought we should be safe. The lobby/ballroom area is very nice and beautifully maintained - I wish they paid that type of attention to the care and maintenance of the rooms as well! the carpets […] were so stained that I was afraid to let my kids touch the ground with their barefeet. The furniture in the room was equally stained so I didn't allow them to sit on the chairs. The entertainment unit and window sills were so dusty - horrible! The turn down service was a nicety but when we went to put the kids to bed there was hair all over the nice white sheets. All in all I would not stay at this hotel again - ESPECIALLY for the amount of money it costs to stay at this supposed 5 star hotel. And YES - there were homeless people directly in front of the hotel, not great....not great, at all. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"I will stay in another hotel next time"
In this luxury hotel, I naively assumed that when Wi-Fi was provided, it would be free. Finding out that I had incurred what I felt were unreasonably high charges for checking my email was a surprise. I also assumed that this 1910 hotel was historic because it was advertised as such, and that's the principal reason I booked it. But the poor hotel has […] been so extensively remodeled and trendily decorated that it has lost any feeling of historic ambience and authenticity. Very sad. That homeless men and women panhandled me as soon I went outside was even sadder, especially since many of the homeless men sitting and sleeping on nearby sidewalks and benches are Navy veterans who hold cardboard signs that state their year of enlistment. In contrast, I also saw large numbers of well-bred, well-groomed and well-behaved dogs being walked near the hotel. Given a choice, I'd rather lead a dog's life in San Diego and stay at another hotel! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Grant Hotel"
The facilities at the Hotel are adequate. Its location is ideal if you prefer to be in a downtown location. However, the attention of the personnel is not up to par for a , supposedly, four or five star rating. The staff at valet are the only ones that deserve to be congratulated followed by the receptionists. The rest need substantilal training in […] courtesy , attention to detail and customer attention. The breakfast experience at the hotel restaurant was truly dismal. Also our room was not made up until really late in the day. The service center answering the phone must have been on vacation All in all, I would seek another Hotel for my next San Diego stay. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Hotel Grant - Downtown San Diego"
My husband & I stayed in this hotel after reading various reviews. The staff was very, very helpful and kind. No complaints. However, we were very, very disappointed in the location and quality of the hotel for the price we pd. for a deluxe room. First of all, the windows are single-pane so each PM/AM, I could hear the folks standing outside of the […] various bars surrounding the Grant. The air conditioner/fan kept coming on/off and the smoke detector above the bed blinked on/off (white light) all night long. In addition, we had to change rooms after the 1st night because the bathroom was very slow to drain and I could smell sewer. The location of the hotel is very close (walking distance) to the downtown shops/Seaport Village which is nice. We did eat brearkfast once in the hotel's rest. which was very good but a bit pricey. Overall if we were to visit SDG again, we would stay at a different hotel. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"US Grant"
Well appointed rooms. Dingy halls. Service could have been better. We had to ask twice to have an infant crib be put in our room. Surrounding area is very sketchy as the were homeless people right outside our hotel, but I guess that's expected in a downtown area. Location was convenient to the Gaslamp District and Horton Plaza. Next time, I would just […] stay at the Omni. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"STAFF NEEDS MAJOR LESSON IN CUSTOMER SERVICE"
We had reservations for two king size rooms. I seated my parents and gave the front desk person both the names – spelling them both. I could tell she was distracted as the other woman at the front desk was rolling her eyes and making faces as she talked to whomever was annoying her on the phone. I was then asked my name and for my credit card, (my name […] was on one of the reservations). She handed the keys to the bellman and told us he would take us up. We were taken to a very nice room, I told my parents that they should take this room and asked the bellman to take me to mine. He told me that he only had a key for one room. I asked him to please check. Forty five minutes later my husband and I were in our room – but my husband had parked nearly a ½ mi away so he had to go back and get our car. Thus began our odyssey at the US Grant. This was on Saturday after numerous other foul ups I sat down with the front desk MOD on Tuesday – the gal on the phone rolling her eyes on Saturday. She did offer to comp us our valet parking and one breakfast. It is a lovely hotel and if they can learn from our experience it could be a lovely stay. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Very Disappointed!"
Booked our room and with the reservation we were supposed to get an upgrade to a better room on check-in. Upon check-in we were told that there were no upgrades available since the hotel was fully booked. We received our room keys and went to our room. The key wouldn't work and there was someone currently in the room. We went back down to the front […] desk and told them that there was someone still in the room we were just given. They seemed confused but quickly gave us an upgraded room. I don't understand how they could upgrade us now when initially they told us they were booked out? We went to our new room. The room was a decent size and was upgraded a bit but you could still tell that the hotel is very old. The windows were filthy and there were no child locks on the windows. We could open them up fully and our children, if they wanted, could easily fall out. Housekeeping failed to clean our room on one occasion. One night we returned to our room and our key wouldn't work. We sat outside in the hallway with our 2 young children for 30 minutes while they figured out the problem. Apparently the battery had died in the key card opener. I will say that the hotel is in an excellent location in the heart of the Gaslamp area in downtown but for the price it isn't worth it. There are many newer hotels for the same price in the area that I will stay at next time. I don't understand how this hotel can be give 5 stars??? I wouldn't rate it better than 2-1/2 Stars at best!! I don't recommend anyone to stay here. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"US Grant, San Diego"
What a shame this gorgeous and historic hotel is located next to an SRO flop house, the County Court House bums and a Greyhound bus station. The service is great, restaurant terrific, super clean, lovely lobby with antique chandeliers, good concierge, but it is worrisome to walk around after dark. It is not very convenient to any tourist sites and an […] inside room is needed to avoid hearing the drunks yelling all night. Beautifully restored but there are too many other hotels in San Diego to recommend it. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
