Spain’s foothold in California began here with Mission San Diego de Alcalá, a tourist-friendly church built in 1769. Nearby, Old Town’s historic buildings feature trendy bars and restaurants. Other major attractions include SeaWorld, Qualcomm Stadium, and Mission Bay Park, the nation’s largest waterfront park. South in Point Loma, the Cabrillo National Monument offers panoramic views of San Diego.

Needed a cheap room in San Diego for a couple of nights, but wanted a reasonably quality place. Hilton fit the bill - rooms are nice size, as are the bathrooms. Quality is 3 star, so it's clean. Staff at the desk were professional. Nothing special, and of course the carpets are a little worn, the elevators a bit dinged up, the rooms imperfect...it's […] 3 star, it's a Hilton, so it's what you would expect. Oh, fyi parking is an add'l $16/day and internet is not free. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"On hotel row"
Location was good, close too Sea World, USS Midway both within 15 min. near lots of restaurants...hotel was clean, underground parking good. strange set up though in which you take elevator from parking garage to 1st floor, where elevators to rooms are out of view of lobby. Never really saw the rest of hotel, also no signs anywhere describing where […] pool area is or restaurant or lounge(if there was one) not user friendly but clean hotel and good location. "No complaints"
Some reviews said walls were paper thin but all was quiet on our stay. Price of parking was ridiculous but I guess that's not uncommon in California. Hotel was very clean.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Great Hotel & Great Price"
The price of hotels in this neighborhood is between $70-$100/night. Days Inn and others offer breakfast which saves money, but the room is bad. Here @ Hilton, the room is super nice and just for $10-$20 more, you get a peaceful night. The only downside was that parking was $16 extra charge. However, the parking is underground and has an entrace to the […] lobby so it was not so bad. Overall, I think it is worth paying $100 for this hotel. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Decent but...."
Overall the hotel was nice the only thing we didn't care for was the fact that they do jot offer shuttle service or free wifi! This is the first Hilton I've ever been at that doesn't provide those basic services. DisappointingGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"parking & pool lighting"
Was surprised of the parking fee, i feel that since i picked your hotel to stay i should have had free parking service. The pool area was verry dark, if its open till 11 pm. there should be sufficient ligth to enjoy the pool and Jacuzzi.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"A motel with nice lobby!"
I changed two rooms, but still the same bad supposedly "superior" rooms. Fee for parking and wifi.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good location"
The hotel is good location to access the theme park like San Diego zoo, Sea World or something. The only bad point is that it was hard to open the door at business center.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Central location"
The hotel is located on the frontage road next to the Freeway. Our room was on the back side, so noise was not a problem. Very nice room with comfortable beds. Breakfast was great - very nice buffet with many options to choose from. Only drawback was only 2 breakfast tickets are provided with the room, meaning we had to pay for our grandson's breakfast. […] I would like to see a child breakfast ticket included when you have a child sharing the room. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"good-priced but fair service"
The hotel was clean and quite comfortable, but it is far from public transport. It was a good thing that we had a rental car. Our room was good for 4pax but there were no bath towels in sight. Upon request, the towels came but not the toothbrush kits.. Dialled the housekeeping again , then the front desk. It took forever before they answered, if ever […] they will. Some occasions, they don't answer at all. The next day, we don't have any coffee nor cups. Again, we had to call housekeeping to get what is supposed to be part of the rom service. Checking out was a breeze 'though. They have a large parking space but it would be nice if hotel guests are given free parking Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"nice place but dated"
The rooms are clean and quiet but they are somewhat dated. Our bathroom sink had no pressure at all, not even enough to brush your teeth. The furniture is pretty old, the leather ottoman had tear marks in it. I'd stay there again but they need to pay attention to the condition of the rooms.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Much better than Expected"
I obtained a very low rate for Christmas weekend from Hotels.com. I expected that the hotel might be dated. However the room was cheerful, well appointed and the bed was cozy and comfortable. The room was smaller than average, but attractively arranged. The room, bathroom, corridors and lobby were absolutely spotless. All employees were pleasant and […] focused on customer service.Other than the parking rates ($20 valet or $16 self park), everything about the Hilton was perfect. "Nice Hotel for Short Stay"
Nice hotel for our short stay to visit San Diego Zoo. The breakfast buffet was good and the service at breakfast amazing - very attentive and friendly. The room was immaculate and bed super comfy. The only downsides (or at least things to keep in mind): 1. Road Noise - if your room is on the highway side of the hotel you will have some road noise that […] for some sleepers may hamper at least getting to sleep. However, the proximity to highway makes this a good location. 2. Adjoining Room Adds Noise - We had a room adjoining a family with children. Their parents kept them quiet at night, but we did hear them before 10 PM through the door and I was startled when one of the kids was fiddling with my door! So ask for a room that doesn't adjoin unless it is with someone you are traveling with. :) 3. Pay for Extras - We got a great deal on Hotels.com for this quality of a hotel and it included breakfast! However it did NOT include WiFi ($10 pd) or parking ($16 pd). Personally, I'm surprised there are still hotels that charge extra for WiFi (I think it should be considered same at water, AC, cable TV as far as any US hotel is concerned, particularly a major chain, but I understand about parking in city areas. "Convenient location"
From here we traveled to Sea World, USS Midway & Balboa park. They were all within minutes from the hotel. We ate buffet breakfasts at the hotel restaurant and were satisfied with the food and the service. For a variety there are several fast food and sit down restaurants within five minutes.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great"
We are from San Diego and moved away so we needed a place to be with our small dog for a week vacation there. The Hilton was perfect. Staff was awesome and room was very nice. I recommend it highly. Pet friendly and beautiful, two good combos for a pleasant stay.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Mediocre"
Serviceable hotel but nothing more. Avoid Stish, the hotel restaurant, at all costs, horrendous service and multiple times I had to return crusty silverware and dishes that didn't appear to have been cleaned. Don't go into this hotel expecting much, and you won't be disappointed.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Don't Stay There"
I was dissapointed by this Hilton and would never stay at one again. The reservations I made included breakfast but when we arrived, they said that they did not have record of it and were not helpful at all at trying to resolve the issue. The rooms were just ok. The staff was not friendly at all.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Response by Hilton San Diego Mission Valley We here at the Hilton San Diego Mission Valley apologize for any error that occurred in your reservation and check-in process. Even if we did not have a record of your reservation's breakfast inclusion, we should have worked to resolve the issue to your satisfaction.

"Not a family hotel!"
Dont stay here if you have kids or are planning on eating in. After a long drive we just wanted to stay in and have our meal ordered in. We had to go through an ordering service to pick up our food because no resutrant delivers to this side of the highway! Which took over and hr and a half to get out food. "want something more than a bed.."
Then you will pay extra for it. Internet? Extra. Breakfast? Extra. Refrigerator? Extra. Parking? Extra. Plus no place for my visitors to park. The room was fine. The housekeeping staff great. Front desk staff, not so friendly. I won't be staying there again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Clean but dated"
This hotel is showing its age. It was clean and the room was okay. But, the overall feel is not what I have come to expect from Hilton. If you are just looking for a place to stay overnight, I could recommend it. It is very close and convenient to San Diego attractions like the zoo and stadium.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Extra charge for everything"
The room was fine, housekeeping staff was great. the front desk clerks did not want to address any issue that was brought to them. (They hide behind the computers) We have family in San Diego and came to visit us at the hotel. But in order for them to park we had to ask the front desk for a parking pass each time they came to pick us up. drop us off […] or visit our room. Quite a hassle and one the front desk employees didn't seem concerned for our situation. Beware, there is a daily fee to park, daily fee for a refrigerator in the room (unless you are on a "superior level" - which was not mentioned during booking). There is a daily fee for internet use too. And no complimentary breakfast either. So, when you see the room price remember EVERYTHING else is extra. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Problems experienced: 1. We requested rooms at the bottom floor received rooms at top floors. 2. On check out day our room was cleaned out at 10:00 while we were out for breakfast and we had til 12:00 noon to check, all our items left in the room were returned from the maids cart. 3. "Labor Dispute & No Refrigerator"
The Saturday morning of my stay began at 7:00 a.m with a labor dispute protest with the Hotel. This included bullhorns and chanting. Also the hot tub was not in service due to maintenance. In addition there was no refrigerator in the room. After a call to the front desk regarding the refrigerator I was told that only rooms from the 10th floor and up […] (14th floor) had refrigerators. I've never heard of such a thing. My brother and his wife paid the same price as I did for my room and they were on the 14th floor with a refrigerator. Final thing is the AC barely worked, even when set at 65 the room was not really that cool. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Great location, BUT needs improvement"
Great location if you're traveling with family. Very close to Seaworld and the beaches. Hotel needs regular maintenance though. We changed room because AC doesn't seem to be working. The replacement room AC doesn't work very well either. We were so tired and woke up sweating three hours later. Used the restroom when we came back late at night only to […] find out the bathroom sink was clogged off.
