Our 2nd stay & we will stay here again. There's something unique about the Horton Grand that is hard to describe. Walking into the lobby and looking around is part of the experience. I love the lobby's high spacious ceilings, the elegant yet informal decor, and the history of the place. This time, we stayed in a regular room on the 4th floor and were […] impressed with the huge wood staircase with fancy bannisters. My 7 year old daughter & I loved the pretty couches & piano in the sitting area near our room. Previously, my husband & I stayed in a suite. The regular room & it's bathroom are small. There are unique touches such as the old fashioned 'water closet' with a fancy pull string instead of a standard toilet. All staff were great. The valet & front desk staff were very attentive and were able to get us a room across from our friends' room. Breakfast was delicious. I thought the blueberry buckwheat pancakes were fabulous. Great location. Only one block away from Cafe 222 was a big plus. Parking prices are steep but in this location they all are. Enjoyed staying in a historical hotel in a historical district.

When we checked in the desk clerk was wonderful. However when we checked out it was a female and she was just short of rude. She did not say anything, like good morning, she just took my keys and gave me a receipt. The hotel is in a great location and we liked the idea of a fireplace,however it did not work and by the time we discovered it, it was too […] late to change rooms. Also the bathtub was full of long dark hair which you could not miss so I don't know how the housekeeper didn't see it when she cleaned the tub. Other than that we liked the hotel. Read more

The hotel has a great location located right in the heart of the Gaslamp District. Restaurants and bars all right around the corner. Parking was the only difficulty as waiting for someone to get or take your vehicle took as long as 45 minutes. The hotel itself was nice, but was on a main street that was VERY loud all night long with people, music and trafic. The night clubs near the hotel were also loud during the evening. Hotel nice, but be prepared for a lot of noise traffic all night long.

This is an old hotel situated right in the heart of the Gas Lamp District. The location is great and the rooms are not too bad for the age of the hotel but the service is horrible. We thought the hotel was pretty empty given its location but after experiencing the service there it made complete sense. We received bad service on 3 different occasions. 1st […] incident. At check in the lady was short and brief with us. We were told there was no restaurant or room service. Saturday morning we walked down and sure enough they were open. The employee at the restaurant there was complaining that it was extremely slow and had no customers. We told her its due to the fact that the restaurant is not really promoted there and and sometimes told that there is no restaurant. Maybe its easier to say there isnt a restaurant then to give out their hours? The restaurant does not open on Mondays. 2nd incident was Saturday morning. I left the valet ticket in the mail box since i had to leave really early and my wife was still in the room. Wife came down and the lady at the front desk was busy on a personal call. Wife had to clear her throat a few times if you know what i mean. Then she was short and brief with my wife and told her she could'nt find the valet ticket. Once she looked in the mailbox where the valet guy said he was going to put it she found it. 3rd incident. Our friends checked out early on Saturday and were waiting for their vehicle at the valet area at the same time we were. The valet guy brought the car around and loaded the luggages and our friends helped. The valet guy quickly left to get our vehicle since we had also been waiting. All good up to that point. As the valet guy went to get our vehicle our friends realized that they didnt tip him so they waited for him to come back. My friend tried to tip him and the valet guy rejected his tip. Apparently he was hurt because he didnt tip him right away? I thought that was hilarious but what he did was extremely rude. So Read more

We spent the weekend in San Diego and this was a fantastic location. Gorgeous woodwork and antiques in this old hotel with every modern comfort. Very clean, in the heart of the gas lamp district with great restaurants and entertainment nearby. This is where we will stay on future trips to San Diego.

We checked in during early evening on a Sat. The hotel does display many antiques and historical items. But, the bar was closed and dark on a Sat nite, which was unusual we thought and just the whole feeling inside with everything was a little "creepy", like the Haunted Mansion at Disneyland. The hotel is centrally located to all fun spots, very charming and clean. We had a room on the street side and didn't mind it one bit. it was fun watching all the people having fun themselves. I would stay there again.
