"Very Relaxing, but close to everything."
The room was amazing. I called and asked if it all possible they would be able to accommodate a higher level room and upon my check in I had an amazing 14th floor room with a view of the harbor. Comfortable room and beds. Recommend instruction on the air conditioning / heating unit which was old and was no longer controlled on the unit itself but by the thermostat.. We had to call the staff to figure that out since it seemed to be broken.The staff was accommodating giving us a higher room and on the non - freeway side, so noise was no problem, […] but I wonder about the rooms on the freeway side?The hotel is within walking distance of both downtown and Balboa Park but the immediate neighborhood is a bit sketchy. "5 minute cab ride to downtown"
Great service. The entire staff was smiling and friendly. They had delicious fresh baked cookies, coffee and tea when we arrived around 6pm to check in. Check in and check out was super quick. The beds were comfy and the rooms were clean. We had a great view on the 15th floor. I also forgot to pack my iphone charger and my phone was close to dead so […] I asked if they had one to lend to customers. They didn't but the hotel supervisor at the front desk had his personal phone charger with him and offered to charge it for me in the back office. The staff is very pleasant & helpful. Very close to everything we needed to do. Easy on & easy off the freeway & streets to anywhere. Walking distance to the Gaslalmp district, Little Italy, etc. One concern is the parking. Undergound parking is very limited with small cramped spaces for small cars, difficult to maneuver if you have a midsize to large […] vehicle or truck. If you are relegated to the top parking level (no cover), there is no elevator access, so a handicapped person may have to be left at front entrance, while the other person parks the car. We were not made aware of this. We walked around for a while then took the stairs. We inquired about elevator access & at that time were told there was no elevator just exterior steps to the ground floor (1 flight). The other really isn't serious, just a little discomforting. The door to the bathroom is a sliding opaque glass door. Because the door does not shut, but just slides across, sounds & light filtered through the sleeping area. Our problem was with the shuttle service provided. Expedia did not say that the shuttle service was NOT 24/7. We arrived late and the shuttle service was there but in the morning we had to leave BEFORE 6 a.m. No shuttle service. We had to take a cab so another $20 with tip. When we got back from Maui, there was no shuttle service as late as we got in. […] So another cab drive... $20. We would hope that Expedia would let people know that shuttles do not run 24 hours. I only picked this hotel because it was close to airport and said it had shuttle service to airport and when I asked to have the shuttle pick me up I was told not in a nice manor that the shuttle did not start until 6 am. Was staying over night before another destination. The service was good, but nothing special. When we went up to our room we had difficulty getting into the room as the door was broken. We went back down stairs and the gentleman at the desk went up and "fixed it." He came back down and said the room was set. I wasn't sure about the neighborhood but within 5 blocks of the Gaslight district which is really cool. Didn't want to walk it at night as there are a lot of homeless people in this area but very close to great restaurants, the zoo, airport, convention center. "Nice Hotel - Centrally Located in San Diego"
The hotel is close to the downtown area. They allowed me early check-in from my east coast flight. The room is very comfortable and quiet even though it is near the I-5 highway. Great location. Walking distance to Gas Lamp District. Room was very large with a great bathroom & dressing area and a very comfortable bed. The hotel offers free Wi-Fi and a free shuttle to the airport which was so convenient. The staff was courteous and very helpful. "Okay, but for business travelers"
This hotel is very convenient to the San Diego airport and downtown area. Other than that is does not have many redeeming qualities. Wife and I ended up here for 2 nights after our original reservation at Country Inn & Suites was botched by either Expedia and/or hotel. Not much in way of amenities. Even basics such as a mini-fridge and microwave were […] absent from the room. It had a coffee maker, that was about it. Temperature control of room was okay, bed was comfortable, bathroom was nice but was a single room and had a weird sliding glass door that could not be locked. Not good for privacy at all. Small circular building means layout of room was odd angles everywhere. Parking garage and access to elevator very confusing. Worst of all was navigating to the hotel, the area is a maze of one-way convoluted streets. Map your way ahead of time, it is not easy at all to find this hotel. But it does have easy access to I-5. Getting to hotel, another story.. Guy at desk was pretty useless trying to figure out the Expedia issue where they were trying to relocacate us at 2AM in the morning, took about 20 minutes to check in for something that should take 3. Had a pool and workout room but kind of small and hard to get to. It's a businessman's hotel. Safe, quiet, and convenient to that area. Not for family or spouse. "Thin walls, thin everything"
The staff was extremely friendly at the front desk. The rest of the experience was disappointing. The room was small. The furniture was either low quality or not assembled properly. There was a dresser drawer that stayed open that was annoying because you had to be careful walking as not to trip over it. I tried to find something heavy to weigh it down […] but was unsuccessful. The toilet paper and kleenex felt like thin sand paper. I had a bit of a cold and my nose is now raw from using the kleenex. The bathtub was either dirty or stained with dirt. It was not appealing. Not that this was the hotel's fault but we were next to the most obnoxious visitors in the next room. They were loud all night and early morning. While this isn't the hotel's fault, it did expose how thin the walls are. It was the worst night of "sleep" I have ever experienced at a hotel. the hotel is just so close to everything we needed. gaslamp quarter was a couple blocks away for fun and dining. it was right next to the 5 freeway, which allowed us to be 10 minutes to qualcomm stadium. the rooms seemed to be smaller than most. the king bed was comfortable. not all rooms include a fridge and ice machines are located on even floors, […] so we had to improvise. the hotel does have a closet size gym and a pool which u would find empty most of the time, but this could be due to the weather. overall it was good hotel to stay at. its decent. on a scale from 1-10, i would say it has a decent 8.
