We stayed one night after the zoo and it was defiantly better than we thought it was going to be. It seemed to be updated recently and we couldn't have... been happier. Oh wait there was one thing, not enough light in the room. It's a pretty spacious room and the only lights are on one side of the room. Other than that we were extremely satisfied! This hotel is extremely overpriced for what you get. The rooms and bathrooms are small. The shower is not a full shower, but a one person stand up one. If you are over 5'6", the showerhead will be below your head. Their king sized bed is more than likely a queen or a full. It is not very close to the fun things to do downtown. To say that I was disappointed with my stay here is a huge understatement. The plumbing made the most gosh awful and loud noise, anytime anyone nearby showered. There was not a bathtub or shower stall, just a curtain that allowed water to leak onto and all over the bathroom floor. I had to use one of only two large towels in the room to attempt to dry […] the floor so I could stand at sink without standing on a wet floor. When you moved around on the bed, the sound from the cheap box springs was hideous. I was hoping to have a romantic getaway with my girlfriend that was anything but that. The loo on my girlfriends face upon entering the room made me want to walk out and book a room somewhere else... I was embarrassed. The room looked little like the picture, and had I known what I was getting into, there is NO WAY I would have booked a room there. If I were offered a free stay at this Red Roof Inn, I would decline and flee as fast as I could. Read more

My girlfriend and I enjoyed our stay. The room was clean and comfortable. We liked that the hotel was walking distance to the Gaslamp Quarter, the train station,the harbor, and our favorite breakfast place, Richard Walker's Pancake House. Besides the fact that the hotel is on top of a hill, and a pretty steep one at that, we would stay there again.
