This was hands down the worst hotel I have stayed in. The curtins were too short, so people could see into your room as they walked by and you could see into other people's rooms from the walkway. The room I booked was a King Superior, which was supposed to come with a refridge & microwave. There was no microwave and the refridge barely worked; my food […] spoiled because it was not cold enough. There was something wrong the the tub, the bathroom door did not even shut, and there was hardly any light in the room after dark. I stayed for several nights and when the room service came, they did a good job of cleaning. However, they did not come every day for some reason, so I ended up taking my own trash out so it didn't overflow. Lastly, the neighborhood was terrible. It is near 2 Bail Bonds shops, lots of run down parking lots, and homeless people roaming the streets. I wish I would have stayed a few blocks over (the Gaslamp Quater seemed more populated and safer in the evening). Read more

Jason was very helpful which ameliorated the negative first impression. Entry was hard to find, lobby sparse to slightly shabby, computer not working; but Jason handled all with grace & attentiveness. Probably wouldn't recommend it or return, but I wouldn't discredit it either.

So I arrived to find that there is no microwave or mini fridge, despite the description on hotels.com saying that ALL rooms have these. I was informed at the front desk that it was in the king suites. Oh no, I brought perishables! They said they would try to upgrade me to a suite first thing tomorrow, fine. Red Roof is a basic hotel chain, no frills but everything you need for one or two nights. There was a faulty light switch in the room, it was operable but with difficulty. They offered a replacement room but it would have meant climbing stairs, something I am unable to do. Our stay was AWFUL! The room was tiny - the shower was even smaller with no water flow and the ac/heater were all broken! The big huge man in the front was RUDE- RUDE - RUDE!!!!!! Total bologna to have to pay $16 per night for a parking spot so we had to park on the streets by a bail bonds or the homeless. LOVELY!!!! So disappointing! They say- you […] get what you pay for. Exactly what we wanted. Can walk down hill to anything in gaslamp for good food and music. Didn't move the car in 2 days. There is an extra parking fee but worth if for price of hotel compared to others in neighborhood. I was hesitant to stay at a RRI, but it was clean and well kept and we were very happy with our stay.

After a fun day in San Diego too exhausted to drive home decided to book this room at 11pm via the Expedia iPhone App. The RATE was next to nothing compared to the surrouding hotels and the location is great! The Expedia App provided details, pictures & reviews. This hotel, all though older and not as fancy, was given positive reviews, so I took my […] chance. I was happy to be able to book the room while driving to the hotel. When I arrived, literally 5 minutes after booking, I was greeted by a very friendly employee. He was able to immediately access my reservation, as the email confirmation from expedia was still in transmission. He politely set everything up and offered a decent cup of hot coffee. The room was a little dated but very CLEAN and the bed was too firm for my liking but as tired as I was it was ok. Bathroom was very Clean and everything worked properly. There is a safe $2 a night but needed for my laptop & other valuables. Parking is $16 with a permit but I felt my car would be safe in the well lighted private lot. The room offered coffee pot, walk in closet, and was fairly large. Unfortunately, as the weather became colder the water pipes began to ping loudly but not as loud as the sirens from the fire trucks haha! Overall this hotel is worth staying as a last minute choice and I would recommend this place if you simply need a place to crash and I would def stay here again. Read more

We stayed here for almost a week. The hotel is located quite conveniently, a 10 minute walk into San Diego downtown, yet far enough away to be relatively quiet. ON the other side, Iti is a 30 minute easy walk to Balboa Park and the zoo. When we stayed, there were may young people and surfers staying as well which meant a fair amount of noise during […] the early evenings. When we checked in, we were assured that noise was kept down after 10 pm, and we found this to be true. At any rate, our sleep was undisturbed. The room was clean and quite comfortable. Hardwood floors rather than carpeting made it look much better. The bathrooms are on the smaller side, as with hotels located in cities, but quite alright. Internet can be slow sometimes, but it works and is free. We interacted with the reception a bit during our stay and the staff (Ivan especially) were very considerate, accommodating and efficient! They let us check out a bit later which was very helpful. In all, if you are on a budget but still want relatively comfortable digs, and are not too nit-picky, the Red Roof is a good, solid option. In my favorite neighborhood, Cortez Hill. Free airport shuttle! Great views! The shower was surprisingly bad for how updated the rest of the room was, but I could care less because the size of the room, the comfort, the view, location, transportation to airport waaay made up for it. Highly recommend!

Front desk let me and my partner check in an hour early. Room had hardwood floors that were clean. In room safe, and refrigerator, clock radio, telephone. Clean overall. For the rate I got I can't complain. One day they skipped cleaning our room, but oh well it's not a 4 star resort. So just expect the basics. Good location right in downtown.

Good place to stay, when out touring most of the day. Only two problems the hill to get to the hotel at the end of the day and not really a place for kids, no play area. Staff was friendly and knowledgeable. Very upbeat and helpful.

first..the hotel staff was friendly..the service was fantastic from the front desk to the guest service...they brought toothbrush andtoothpaste tomy room at adimeafter request...it's conveniently located near everything in SanDiego..and the provide free shuttle to and from the airport..all for a reasonable price..I got AWESOME bang for my buck!!

It was an OK hotel, but charged a lot for parking, on top of the expedia rate. Room was clean, bathroom was small. Hotels in San Diego are expensive anyway, but I think this is a "fake cheap". I think if I went for a more expensive hotel, there would be breakfast and parking included, which would be kinda the same price overall as this.

My macbook was stolen in this hotel, i stayed 304, the rooms are connected each others with a door which is easy to open, the police officer said that, the security camera can not see my room's enterence. Although older and a bit run down, location in downtown S.D. is convenient. Although we knew parking was extra, $16 per night is a little steep and must be factored in when considering the rate, if you are driving. The continental breakfast is minimal, but several nice places to eat within VERY short walking distance.
