San Diego’s waterfront airport lies northwest of downtown, which is home to the San Diego Convention Center, PetCo Park stadium, and the Gaslamp Quarter’s. That historic neighborhood’s restaurants and bars are the hub of the city’s nightlife. Balboa Park and the San Diego Zoo form a green swath in this urban jungle. Offshore, Coronado Island offers postcard views of the city skyline.see all hotels in San Diego

"Convenient but don't expect 4 star comfort."
For the cost and needing a place to sleep it was fine. Not the most comfortable and WiFi was non existent. Shower / bathtubesque stall might have been an afterthought. Will probably not book again unless it is the only thing available.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
This a great hotel located in the heart of San Diego. The rooms are dated but clean and functional. The best thing is that you can, if you don't mind a short to medium walk, be near the waterfront one way or do a turn around and head to the gas lamp district for beers and food. This not a 4 star facility but is excellent for those on a budget that want […] to be in the middle of San Diego's social venue. I forgot--They have free coffee in the office 24 hours a day!! "Not a very satified customer."
I had a King size bed, the room was great. However, the bathroom was tinny. the tub a square not fit to take a bath. The tub it self the plastic underneath seem like it wanted to pop off. It was slow to drain, and water pipes seem like it wanted to bust. I got scared and rushed out the shower thinking it would blow out on me. I also had to pay an extra […] $30 just for parking in their parking space. I travel a lot and this is the fist time I have ever had to pay for parking my car in the hotel's parking lot. "Not all Red Roofs are Equal"
I stayed at Red Roof because I thought this was a trusted brand with standard ammenities but I found out that it wasn't. I need a fridge when I travel because I carry my green juicer everywhere I need to eat. No fridge or microwave in this RR, San Diego. I was upgraded to a room with a bath, the bath was an authentic HALF BATH! I took a photo for my […] Facebook because at least I could laugh at it later. It's the bottom half of a standing shower made into a small tub. I made it work. Now I know to call and check about the things I need at each location BEFORE i swiftly book through hotels.com.. "Ok for a cheap not so fancy place to stay"
We were given a handicapped room which we are not handicapped and the shower Would flood the whole bathroom, they floor was never cleaned and towels where never given or replaced even if on the floor!! The trash was only emptied if it was full and they don't use trash liners!! Ok room but don't expect it to be cleaned or refreshed for you if your staying […] more then a day! Hotel was one block away from my conference. Staff was very helpful. Bathroom was cramped. No hot water from the faucet.Genuine Expedia guest review
It was a place to stay during my time is San Diego. Not much, just that. A way overpriced place to stay at that. I'd expect more for the price. If all I get out of a hotel besides the bed and a hot shower is some cable watching during my downtime I'd expect real Cable on a decent TV made sometime after the year 2000. ye olde fuzzy picture tube and no […] real movie option does not cut it. "Reasonable location & price; poorly maintained"
I spent 5 nights at this Red Roof. The room was not well maintained. The door stuck so hard I could hardly open it sometimes, the knob for the temp control on the a/c was missing, the shower pipes vibrated and created a shrieking noise, the window was badly cracked. On the other hand it was clean, fairly quiet, decent location for downtown San Diego, […] and reasonable price. My trip was short notice and it was what I could find at a reasonable price close to downtown so I didn't have to rent a car. The staff was friendly and helpful whenever I requested assistance. I would recommend this hotel but only if other possibilities are not available. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Hotel in Downtown"
The hotel room floor was not CLEAN, and bed was not comfortable.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Passable, but not ideal"
This hotel is not more than it appears to be on the outside. Check it out on Google Street View or something, and you will know what you are getting into. The room was fine in that it was comfortable, but the 'free wifi' never even reached my room on the top (read: 3rd) floor. The TV was ancient. The sink dripped incessantly. The shower was completely […] unintuitive, in that left was cold while right was hot (despite the symbolism and conventional wisdom depicting the opposite), not to mention tiny. The hotel was also a good fifteen plus minute walk to the convention center (SDCC), including the bit that the hotel itself sat atop a hill that you need to ascend on your return trip. If there are other hotels available at the same price point as the Red Roof Inn, I would recommend you try those out. That is the main reason I am not recommending this hotel, as the room itself was adequate for a budget hotel. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Convenient, inexpensive lodging downtown San Diego"
The Inn is in reasonably good condition for an older property. It is within walkable distance (20 min) of downtown and the trolley lines. My room was clean and well maintained for the most part (the shower drain backed up a bit). This Inn is a motor court, so all of the rooms have outside doors, and the courtyard is a parking lot. This is not the most […] scenic or secure arrangement for an urban hotel. The staff were courteous and efficient. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Close to all must-see sights"
It was ok. Room was some what updated fridge is very small. No microwave in rooms. Bathroom is half of a tub and needed update. Love the hardwood floors, just needed to be clean. Wear slippers! Hate the fact you had to pay for parking $16 a night. If no parking in lot you have to drive around the block to garage and work around the corner to get back […] especially when you have to pay. Not great for kids if your stay for more than 3 nights but very close to zoo and sea world 7 mins away. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
The best thing about the hotel is its location; it is close to down town.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Hotel facilities and condition"
1st night we don't have wash and hand towels, we had to asked made next morning ....seems they are not happy. Shower nozzle make noise and not working correctly and I had to hold shower nozzle. Otherwise, okGenuine Expedia guest review
"A step up from a hostel--in a good way."
This place is one step up from a hostel. Instead of $20-30 a night for a shared room, you pay $80/night for your own room and not much more than European-style lodging. Rough towels, ancient bathroom amenities, rock hard mattresses, certified crude grade oil coffee at the Check-In Desk.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Not an "up scale" hotel or spot, but it works."
Overall safety was a concern. Rough crowd, but it is downtown. If you are traveling with more than just yourself it is fine. Traveling alone? I wouldn't stay here.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Parking fee is shocking"
Good place, and nice rooms in convenient location, however it would be good to more clearly call out what the parking fee is. It was excessive in my opinion. Cheaper to park at the airport.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Overpriced.continental breakfast would be nice.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
It lacked restaurant. Availability of breakfast on sight is a must for me. Parking was very expensive. Hotel staff was very helpful, tried to help as much as possible.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Comfortable hotel with east access to San Diego Zo"
We had a one night visit for the purpose of a one day visit to the Zoo. Nice Italian restaurant just across the street for dinner and breakfast -- very convenient since breakfast not provided at the hotel.Genuine Expedia guest review
"good but needs maintenence"
Room is nice beds were somewhat comfy considering I'm pregnant service was not over the top but they were nice, only thing is it seems they gave me an unmaintenenced room the shower made a loud sound and was also clogged so we had to make our showers quick before it filled up.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Affordable, but not a great part of town"
The front desk staff are very nice and accommodating. I was in town for a conference at the Convention Center, which was within walking distance (with good shoes on). There are a lot of homeless people living around the area. The hotel is across the street from a Bail Bonds center. I did not feel safe walking alone after dark.Genuine Expedia guest review
"One night only"
I got what I paid for. There were no particular amenities other than free long distance within the USA. They share a shuttle with another hotel a block away and uphill so I had to haul my heavy suitcase there at 5:00 AM. I only needed somewhere close to the airport for one night so that I could take a shuttle for a 7:00 AM flight, and for that it was […] fine. I have never stayed in a hotel/motel that had a stall shower instead of a full tub, so that was different. If I were on vacation and planning on staying more than the one night, I would not choose to stay there. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Great to stay and sleep with no luxuries"
The Red Roof Inn does not have some ammenties that are usually standard in most hotels. For example, a minifridge. The beds are very low quality and the bathrooms have no tubs and are small. The service and staff are great, very friendly and helpful.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Decent if you want to save money."
The Red Roof Inn wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either. I would rate it around a 2.75 out of 5. Its walking distance to downtown, gaslamp and the trolley. But if I had to do it over again I would have stayed at a different hotel.Genuine Expedia guest review
Jason was very helpful which ameliorated the negative first impression. Entry was hard to find, lobby sparse to slightly shabby, computer not working; but Jason handled all with grace & attentiveness. Probably wouldn't recommend it or return, but I wouldn't discredit it either.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"The hotel was ok"
The staff was nice and the rooms were clean. It was right in downtown San Diego which was nice, and close to everything. However, there were lots of homeless people around the area by the hotel, but then again there were lots of homeless people all over downtown San Diego.Genuine Expedia guest review
The hotel room was adequate but the staff were outstanding. All were friendly and helpful. They facilitated my transportation to the airport and answered multiple questions about the area. Thank-you!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great location, low quality, low price"
Location was great. That's the only reason I would stay here again. Otherwise, room is a bit old but not necessarily dirty. Shower has super weak water pressure. Towels were abrasive. Toilet is like a public restroom. Parking does cost, but still cheaper than everywhere else. The hill people are complaining about isn't even bad.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Review for everyone"
Pipe noise was ridiculous. Staff didn't do anything to accommodate us when we called about this noise several times throughout the evening.Genuine Expedia guest review
Overall satisfied with hotel service with exception of bad information from a night fron desk worker who did not call the hotel shuttle as promised and did not tell me that I had to budget time to walk across to the holiday inn to pick up the shuttle. Had I not called in at 4:30 in the am to confirm, I would have possibly mised the flight back home.....Other […] than that satisfied with service. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Red Roof San Diego"
We stayed here for almost a week. The hotel is located quite conveniently, a 10 minute walk into San Diego downtown, yet far enough away to be relatively quiet. ON the other side, Iti is a 30 minute easy walk to Balboa Park and the zoo. When we stayed, there were may young people and surfers staying as well which meant a fair amount of noise during […] the early evenings. When we checked in, we were assured that noise was kept down after 10 pm, and we found this to be true. At any rate, our sleep was undisturbed. The room was clean and quite comfortable. Hardwood floors rather than carpeting made it look much better. The bathrooms are on the smaller side, as with hotels located in cities, but quite alright. Internet can be slow sometimes, but it works and is free. We interacted with the reception a bit during our stay and the staff (Ivan especially) were very considerate, accommodating and efficient! They let us check out a bit later which was very helpful. In all, if you are on a budget but still want relatively comfortable digs, and are not too nit-picky, the Red Roof is a good, solid option. The staff keep this place going! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Only if you are on a budget"
The rooms need serious updates and sound proofing. Also the $16/day parking fee is a bit too much... That and the lack of any amenities doesn't really make it a great deal.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The hotel itself was pretty clean, but you have to call if you want your room to be cleaned. Also the parking fee was high.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Red Roof Inn San Diego"
The hotel location is fine. During my stay there was some remodeling and painting being done. The room is not sound proof; I was able to hear what was happening in the room next doorGenuine Expedia guest review
"1 mile from waterfront"
hidden parking fee $16 per overnight car, misleading regarding overall room rateGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Front desk let me and my partner check in an hour early. Room had hardwood floors that were clean. In room safe, and refrigerator, clock radio, telephone. Clean overall. For the rate I got I can't complain. One day they skipped cleaning our room, but oh well it's not a 4 star resort. So just expect the basics. Good location right in downtown.Genuine Expedia guest review
nasThis motel was very nice for the price we spent. The best part about it was the wood floors, no walking on dirty carpet! We would stay here again. The only thing i have to complain about is the parking fee... $16 a day that wasn't mentioned on the website. This is something that people on a budget would like to know beforehand.....Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great service! Comfy beds!"
Rooms were clean but small! Most comfy bed that Ive had at a hotel though! Shower was so small! I literally had to bend down just to rinse my hair out and there was hardly any water pressure! My only complaint would be the cost and the construction noise at 6am on a Saturday!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The Red Roof Inn is run down - fortunately they are remodeling. Location very convenient to Gas Lamp District, easy access to Balboa Park and the Zoo - it's located across the street from the landmark El Cortez.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
You get what you pay for. Friendly staff, clean rooms, but the exterior needs updating and cleaningGenuine Hotels.com guest review
My Bed Sheets or Pillow Sheets was never changed, My entre (3) Nite stay at the Red Roof...The Hotel should have explain to me if they only change the linen once a week...I pray, that this once a week is not true, I hope that the maid just was lazy and skipped changing my linen...Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great Location Older Motel Parking Extra $"
Although older and a bit run down, location in downtown S.D. is convenient. Although we knew parking was extra, $16 per night is a little steep and must be factored in when considering the rate, if you are driving. The continental breakfast is minimal, but several nice places to eat within VERY short walking distance.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good location. Clean and Comfortable."
The hotel was in a good location for where I was going. It was clean and comfortable. I would definitely stay there again.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great value, but leaves a little to be desired"
Location, location, location!!! Walking distance from gas lamp and downtown. Hotel is dated and the room had an odd smell. Sprayed a little febreeze and it was good as new. For the money it was well worth it.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
