The Westin Seattle

During our recent family vacation to Seattle, we were very happy with our stay at the Westin Seattle. Since all of the sights we wanted to see were in or near downtown, we decided not to rent a car. The light rail from SeaTac airport was very affordable, and dropped us off about a half block from the hotel. The hotel was quite nice, clean, and comfortable, and our room with a king bed had an excellent view of the Space Needle and the Sound. The location is fabulous of this hotel! The restaurant located inside is ok if you don't have kids but the kids menu is awful as there isn't typical kid foods available. The rooms are a bit small and the shower wasn't as expected since they made it sound spectacular and it was mediocre. They said dual shower heads but that was a pretty sad dual shower […] head and bathroom was small with no vanity outside of bathroom. View was gorgeous but the extra charge for water view was a bit overrated since it was a small corner of lake union. There are no vending machines anywhere in this hotel so if you want a snack you have to walk somewhere outside. The location and the fact that this hotel has a pool are the two key selling points of this hotel. Read more

The location of the hotel is perfect. Walk 5 mins to Pike Market, 10 mins to Space Needle, or just 2 mins to the light rail that goes straight to Space Needle. There is an Avis directly across the street that we rented a car for just a day. The hotel staff are friendly and helpful, ensuring that we have a smooth transition between the days that we paid […] for and the days that we redeemed our SPG points. The only downside is the elevators are somewhat noisy. They make a rumbling sound that can be heard from all the rooms because the hotel is built in a circular shape with all the rooms surrounding the elevators. It doesn't bother me who am a sound sleeper, but if you're a light sleeper, just be aware of the rumbling sound of the elevator during the middle of the night. My family and I stayed here for the weekend and it was great. Service was amazing, staff was extremely accomodating, and the hotel was clean and comfortable. We were centrally located in downtown so walking to all the area attractions was no problem and really saved on parking fees. We will definitely be staying again.

We all enjoyed our stay. We were grateful for the umbrellas that were provided by the hotel. The location was perfect. We took the Lite Rail from SEAPAC and it was a block and half to the hotel.

This was the nicest Hotel my wife and I have stayed at in the last 10 + years everything was as perfect as if It had been prepaired especially for us. The bed was more comfortable then our own tempur-pedic at home, the view from our room was breathtaking and we were only on the 20 floor close to great shopping, Close to Starbucks 1st store at pike-place. […] sorry we could only stay for 2 nights, but the next time we go to Seattle we will stay here for a week. !! and great rates. It was good, except that there was a damp smell in the room, (and condensation on the window sills) the maid replaced the towels, did not remove the used ones on the floor, and she did not leave coffee or cups one day ~~ We were not aware that when we booked through Hotels.com we would not receive our reward points. Will not make that mistake again

My dog and I arrived and didn't have to wait to check in and got a free upgrade to a room with a great view of the Needle and the Sound in the North Tower. They were great about accommodating my pup and offered to send up a dog bed and food/water bowls. We declined, but it was great to know my lil furry friend was welcome. The room was great - a huge […] comfy bed, a big TV, and floor to ceiling windows looking out over Seattle. There were a couple of fancy looking restaurants and a bar in the lobby, though we didn't visit them. The parking options were what I would expect for a hotel in downtown Seattle - $25 per night at the further garage connected via foot bridge or $40 per night in the attached garage. Steep prices, but when it's raining and you just want to get to your room, you pay for the convenience. I did notice there were other lots not far away that charged much less. As we were only there for 1 night, I figured we'd get room service for dinner - but it was not very vegetarian friendly - with maybe 1 or 2 options on the menu not containing meat or fish. I didn't go so far as to call and ask what they could do for a vegetarian meal. We ordered a pizza instead. Aside from that, it was great to be so close to the Pike Place Market, which would be a better option for eating if you get there before it closes up at 6ish. If I were returning to Seattle for a brief stay, I'd consider the Westin again. Read more

I had booked this hotel for one night for the cruise I was taking the next day with my wife and 18month old daughter. I needed milk from the room service for he morning for my daughter and instead of the person just giving […] me the milk with room service fees she suggested (and very non offensive way) that if I want to I could just get a warm milk from the cafe downstairs and save money this way and be a faster. Exceptionally close to all of the downtown Seattle sights, and with an AVIS rental car location across the street, it was definitely, THE place to be in Seattle. The concierge service was a definite must-use as their dining and sight-seeing recommendations were 100% on the money. Another great Westin experience.

The Westin is wonderfully convenient - with a 2 yr old and 6 yr old we could walk to Pike Place Market, the Aquarium, ferris wheel, monorail to Seattle Center (space needle, EMP, childrens museum) and many great restaurants. They were pretty kid friendly and the littles absolutely were thrilled to be staying in the round towers and loved to pick out […] the distinctive sight of our hotel out whenever we had a view of the city. They also thought the indoor pool was great (through very heavily chlorinated). For the price, the standard room is rather small (does not have a set of real drawers to put clothes away) and the hotel does not have enough elevators. And housekeeping completely forgot to come to our room the first day. That said, for the convenience and thrill for the kids, we enjoyed our 4 night stay (and the heavenly beds) and would return. I was required to upgrade to a waterview room because that was all that was available. The view of the water included a slight view of Lake Union between two buildings and an even smaller view of Puget Sound by looking way left and also between two buildings. I felt they oversold the "water view". Other than that it was a nice (but pricey) hotel.

I only have a couple minor comments on some observations: 1) For such a large hotel and it having very occupancy, ALL elevators should be in working order. We had to wait a long time to go up and down. Called before check in to find out where valet parking was located and got incorrect info. Tried to check in at 5PM on a Monday and they only had one of our three rooms available. 11 of us sat around in one room for an hour or so until the second set of room keys were brought up. We had to wait until after dinner to finally get our third room. Ate at […] the hotel restaurant and experienced the worst service I've had in many years. Server was rude and very unprofessional. Just stayed one night and when we checked out the hotel only comped parking for one of three vehicles. Hardly compensation for sitting around waiting for rooms after a long day. We were above the 25th floor with water views that weren't very impressive. There are a lot of hotels in Seattle and I'd suggest finding another one. Read more

The Westin is a wonderful hotel for those who want to walk to near by restaurants in Belltown, the waterfront and the aquarium, or Pike Place Market. Also the West Lake Mall is right across the street to take the monorail to the Seattle Center. The Westin's round towers are unique and can provide an excellent view, although I'm sure that depends on […] which room you are in. The swimming pool is on the 5th floor with full length windows on two sides, a view, and lots of natural light. The pool water was warm and perfect for swimming leisurely laps. I almost always had the pool to myself in the morning before 9:30 am. The restaurant serves good food, but the breakfast menu in particular is limited, and expensive for what you get. The coffee bar (morning)/ cocktail bar (evening) was a great place to grab a latte and a pastry, or to meet friends in the evening for drink before dinner. Read more

We felt the Westin was a very well-kept hotel, the staff was pleasant, and the location was great. We were frustrated, however, by the charges for internet service, refrigerator use, and room service. I think that a hotel of this staure and price should provide a few more complimentary services for its customers.

The Westin is conveniently located and the property is well maintained. They need to have a proper restaurant for breakfast. The facility currently in place is chaotic and uses a stand-in-line, deli-style ordering system, despite charging premium prices. My primary complaint is with the fees. For a hotel as costly as the Westin, I would expect a few […] more amenities included. Internet use was $9.95/day, room service fees were excessive, and our party of 4 received 2 cardboard coffee cups and enough coffee for 2 single servings. The worst was the mini-bar: there is a sensor on the shelves, so that you are charged for an item if you simply remove it. We were charged for 3 items that we temporarily removed from the frig, even though we hadn't consumed them (we were refunded for the items when we called the front desk). They charge $7/day to use the frig for storing one's own items - we ended up storing left-overs on ice in the recycle bin. This is especially frustrating when you know other hotels provide free internet and a complimentary breakfast, for a fraction of the cost. Read more

The hotel felt slightly run-down. Workout facilities were small and always crowded, with people waiting in line. Westins used to feel special, but this was just an average hotel. This hotel had a beautiful view, but the enjoyment ended there. The rooms were small, run down, and not very clean. The beds were tiny (hard for two adults to sleep together) and uncomfortable. You could hear the neighbors talking clearly from your room, and at 5am, that is not fun. The staff was hard to find and when you found them they were not friendly. […] The hotel was not very family friendly, no children’s activities and the coffee shop/cafe is only open until 2:00pm then you have to retreat to the bar, where children are not allowed. Located on Fifth Avenue in downtown Seattle. Very convenient. No rental car needed! Central to all the must-see sights! As an active family of four, walking everywhere was fun. There was supposed to be self-service garage and also valet parking. During our stay, the self-service garage was never available, so we had to use the valet parking whether we liked it or not. They did not charge us the difference between the two (which I think was about $6/day), but it was quite inconvenient to not have easy access to our car, and […] we also don't like the pressure of having to tip people who open car doors for us even though we'd prefer to do that for ourselves. From asking around, I came to the conclusion that the self-service garage is never available, which made our family feel like it was somewhat of a bait and switch. Also, I asked by phone prior to making the reservations if there was wi-fi and was told yes. What they didn't say was that it is only available on the first floor lobby, which is basically a bar where waitstaff is constantly asking you if you want a drink or whatever - It's really more like you can use the wi-fi if you are drinking in our bar. It was very uncomfortable for me to sit there and use the wi-fi and not be a paying customer in the bar/lobby area. It made me feel like a mooch, and I was already paying plenty of money for the room we stayed in. Speaking of the room we stayed in - it had an absolutely gorgeous view and was very clean and nicely decorated. We turned off all the lights in our room so that we could just stare out the window for a few minutes, and my 20-year-old song picked out a specific song for us all to listen to while we looked out the window and enjoyed the view. You KNOW it's a gorgeous view when you can get a 20-year-old boy to stop what he's doing, choose a song, and just sit back with you and look out the window :) Read more

Just came back from a great weekend at the Westin. The location was perfect, easy to walk to everything we wanted to see and the view from the room was spectacular. The only down sides were not having free Wi-Fi in the room and I wish the setup was two Queen beds instead of two doubles, doubles are tiny! All in all, it was excellent, though.
