When we checked in, the temperature outside was 60 degrees. The heat in the hotel was set at about 85-90. The heat was turned off in our room-yet the room stayed unbearably hot. We had a fantastic time. The only thing not really perfect was that the hallways of the hotel were too hot... but then again, we didn't spend time there. The rooms were huge! The bed was comfy and web-access was free. Pool was heated to 85F and the hot tub is really large and a hot 102! Room was clean, but small. Uncomfortable furniture, fireplace didn't work. The walls are paper thin. Had to listen to neighbors talking from 2:30am till 5:30am. Young man working the desk was not very helpful. The resort looks high end from the outside, but not on the inside. Very dissapointed & won't stay there again.

Although the property is older it was in the perfection location to enjoy the village. The room was clean and comfortable. There was a heated pool and jacuzzi althought we didn't get the opportunity to use either during our stay. We ate at the onsite restaurant for breakfast which offered a nice variety for us and our friends.

The location and facilities are good. I asked for a front facing room. I was told that they were all being cleaned. The manner in which the desk clerk said it, made be believe that they did not want to give me a better room. The furniture is very uncomfortable. When I went to have dinner in the hotel, there was no one waiting to sit me. A guest leaving […] the bar, told me to just go sit down because I would have a long wait. The restaurant had insufficient lighting. There were three guests at a table. I asked the bartender if there was anyone waiting on tables. He suggested that I sit in the bar and he would be happy to wait on me. The food was delicious. Unfortunately, service in the restaurant was non existant. This is no way to run a business. Hotel is aging, but still do-able.The staff at the front desk is def lacking in customer service. A large group of us stayed for the weekend, total of 6 rooms and we asked to be somewhat near one another, hotel clerk said no, we would be too noisy, REALLY? We are all in our 50's not teenagers. The pictures grossly oversell this place. I'm surprised the building is even standing. The location is great and within walking distance to all of the village restaurants and shops, but that is about the only good draw in staying here. Any. Bad review of this place must be a random occurance. NW resort was wonderful....if u have a problem with the heat, dont go to a cold place and maybe open the window. Northwoods has a realyl good location, walking close to the village and 5 minute drive from Snow Summit. The staff, however, is incredibly unhelpful and rude. When we called the front desk/conceirge to ask questions, they were dismissive and didn't return our call with the information we reuqested. The lady answered the phone and when we asked if it […] was the conceirge, she retorted "What do you need?" rudely. When we asked where the nearest shuttle to the moutain was, she told us at a 7-11 that was 2 miles away... Not very helpful or friendly. The wait staff at Stillwells (the restuarant in the hotel) were unattentive, it took over an hour to get our breakfast and the greeter poked fun at one of our medical conditions. Northwoods is my favorite place to stay in Big Bear. It's in the Village (very important), has a good restaurant and is clearly a preferred venue when observing the options. With all those points acknowledged, this trip did I notice a few downfalls that are worthy of consideration: (1) maintenance is slacking, which is probably a result of the slow […] economy, (2) the towels need to be replaced (bring your own!) which is probably a result of the economy, (3) there isn't a fitness center, and (4) it's time to upgrade the ancient televisions. All the same, I still really like this place. The gas fireplace in each room is appreciated. The location is hard to beat. And the dining is worthy of the trip even if staying elsewhere. It's clear that Big Bear has been hit hard by the prolonged recession, but I hope Northwoods will ultimately come out on top. Read more

I wish the staff at the reception would have been a bit more informed about public transportation and their time schedules, esspecially since the bus-station is located right in front of their hotel. We tried to use public tranportation and when we went to the bus-stop there were no times posted and a nice […] lady informed us that there was no transportation after 6 pm. I wanted to click "Yes" for "Would you recommend this hotel to others," but since there isn't an option to specify "conditional on new ownership," I have to vote a "No." The hotel itself is a nice place - a lot of Jellystone-cabin kitsch that gives it charm, stone fireplaces in the rooms (that are likely great in midwinter,) a pool and in-house restaurant/bar. […] The problem is that it's either got a problem finding competent staff or its owners just don't care much about having customers. When we arrived at the front desk we were confronted with instant, unprovoked hostility from someone named Cassandra. Maybe she was just having a bad day, or maybe she's one of these personalities convinced they're God's Gift To Humanity and therefore must treat lesser mortals with appropriate rudeness and condescension - in either case, she does not belong in a position which by its very nature requires dealing directly with customers. Our request to be located on some floor other than the top one (this was a hot Independence Day weekend,) was met with an audible huff of annoyance and a curt, dismissive confirmation of "nothing available" after a perfunctory computer search done with barely-concealed impatience. As expected, the top floor hallway was sweltering - all of the windows were open up there throughout our stay, but what we hadn't expected was that the room's air conditioner was incapable of cooling the room. It was blowing out moderately-cool air with a fan that seemed exhausted at the effort of it all, and the thermostat was set as cold and as high an airflow as it allowed. Since we didn't care to expose ourselves to Miss Congeniality again, we just grit our teeth and tried to ignore the heat. Clearly the Northwoods Inn's management is cutting serious corners on A/C, and doing it in a way that directly impacts customer comfort. The Northwoods Resort was extremly clean and pleasant. We only stayed one night so it fit us well. We had a junior king room and it was alittle small. We rode our Harleys up so the parking fit us perfect, well lit up and VERY safe with cameras and security. The pillows were our biggest let down, hard and flat. Overall a great place to stay.

Pros = Close to center of tourist area, good places to eat locally, pretty cute hotel. Cabin like decorations. Cons = My guess is they cut housekeeping so fewer hands are left to get rooms ready thus ck in time is delayed. Got in early, 10AM, told they would call us when room was ready. I read the reviews that other travelers wrote regarding this hotel. I don't see it. Ho-hum at best. The hotel looks good from the outside. dark and mazey on the inside. Walls are thin. Had a lousy night of sleep, due mostly to noise, even though the hotel was practically empty. Parking lot is dark and somewhat unkept. I felt uneasy parking my car for […] the night. My only complaint was the customer service at the front desk. I was waiting in line behind a gentleman who was checking in and there were two other employees behind the desk that were busy with something else so I continued to wait. Then another gentleman walked up to the desk to check in and he was helped immediately while I continued to wait.

Within walking distance to Chad's and Murray's. Very impressed with the outdoor pools, very warm+hot. Jets were powerful. The room was very clean, the entire place had a pleasant smell in general. Shower good, no hot then cold blasts of water. We liked how there were extra towels. The beds were comfy, soft pillows. TV was a bit bad on a few channels. […] The rustic+wood look is a bit cheesy but it's alright for mountain place. Plenty of parking. Friendly staff. Since the hotel was not completely full by any means I'm going to be a little hard on them. They took a long time (30-40 minutes) to bring us some requested room commodities. A little much for my taste. Decor was nice and the fireplaces in the rooms are great. Our room was very hot, I think because we were on the top floor.
