"this hotel is outdated and worn out!"
This hotel was over priced for what you get, no bell hop service , bed where old and wore out and very noisey, room service trays where left out for 6-8 hours before pick up...I will never stay at this hotel againGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great Location - Less than professional Staff"
The last two times I've stayed here, I've had issues with the night staff. The last time, my girlfriend was asleep & I was watching a movie when someone banged on my door. It was a man dressed in camouflage and he claimed to be security. After calling the desk to verify that he worked there, I opened the door and he verbally attacked me. He said that […] if I continued to make noise, he would throw my girlfriend and I out of the hotel. He was there for a noise complaint while my girlfriend was asleep in the room! Obviously, he had the wrong room, but I was afraid to be without a hotel so I decided to let it go and not hold it against the hotel. During my most recent visit, I was talking (this time with a friend) in normal voices when there was a banging on the door again. Immediately, he started telling me how he could hear me from down the hall and said that I "need to remember how to act in a hotel". This was embarrassing and I deserve better than to be spoken to like that. I'm an adult, not a party animal so both of these visits were fairly shocking. As it turns out, the noise was coming from next door. I spoke with the guy staying there and he apologized for all the noise. Twice, I've wrongfully had security bang on my door, scare the heck out of my girlfriend, threaten to throw me out, and treat me like a child. I won't be staying there again. "Dissapointed"
Room was clean, but small. Uncomfortable furniture, fireplace didn't work. The walls are paper thin. Had to listen to neighbors talking from 2:30am till 5:30am. Young man working the desk was not very helpful. The resort looks high end from the outside, but not on the inside. Very dissapointed & won't stay there again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Mediocre at best..."
Upon check-in, the person at the front desk said she ran my credit card, but it was declined. She refused to run it a second time. So, I gave her another card, which went through with no problems. When I called my credit card company, they said that my card was fine and that no charges were put through by the hotel. We couldn't use half the lights in […] our room, due to electrical outlets not working properly. The walls were very thin. We could hear the people in the room next to us and could literally hear the guy snoring in the middle of the night. We were on the first floor, and it sounded like a parade of elephants walking above us. Overall, the staff was mediocre and not very service-oriented. I had high hopes for Northwoods Resort, but was disappointed with the overall experience. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
""heater issues""
The hotel is walking distance from old town and centrally located to restaurants and convenient stores, however the hotel room was too hot. We stayed on the 2nd floor and this level's heater was having issues. Our room was so hot we had to open the patio sliding doors to cool the room. We stayed for three days during the Christmas holidays. The lobby […] is so small and enclosed that it was not well kept. This hotel is categorized as a "resort", but it didn't seem to have any of the resort amenieties. Everything needs updating, although the decor is cabin theme, everything seemed so old and outdated. There was no microwave available in the room nor lobby. It only included a small refrigerator . "Doesn't worth the money"
Noise in the rooms above us, very poor air condition performance, very bad view from the rooms for the people who reserved their rooms from expedia, the front desk wasn't experienced enough, little bit rude, not enough restaurants with reasonable price. "Not worth the price or stress, very disappointed"
Based on lies from both reservations to lodge. My husband and I went on 10/19/12 for a get reconnected with one another. when we checked in at the front desk host was not very friendly at all. The remainder of are stay was very stressful. We had no heat so I had to keep calling maintance and found out that most of the floor we were on had the same problem. […] if you. wanted the air during the day you would have to call maintance to turn it on manually then at night repeat the same for heat. Housekeeping was just as bad. when we called that evening to have heat back on we couldn't get into are room . The keys didn't work. It was constantly one thing after another. We were offered a extra night to try and reconfide for all the problems that we had to go through, but the morning went to office to checkout I was charged full price for the room that they offered us. we will never stay there again or recommend this resort. Front desk person, young, no experence. Room just ok. Internet very hard to log into. TV, This was a trip, must have been 30 years old. Info packet for TV did not match any networks. The fireplace was not operable. The pillows were flat. The king size bed was not nearly as big as the king size bed I sleep in at home. I am 6'3" tall, 300 lbs and disabled. "Hotel going downhill"
The location and facilities are good. I asked for a front facing room. I was told that they were all being cleaned. The manner in which the desk clerk said it, made be believe that they did not want to give me a better room. The furniture is very uncomfortable. When I went to have dinner in the hotel, there was no one waiting to sit me. A guest leaving […] the bar, told me to just go sit down because I would have a long wait. The restaurant had insufficient lighting. There were three guests at a table. I asked the bartender if there was anyone waiting on tables. He suggested that I sit in the bar and he would be happy to wait on me. The food was delicious. Unfortunately, service in the restaurant was non existant. This is no way to run a business. Room was just ok. Old, uncomfortable beds, and the "balcony" in our room was only 3 feet from the wall of an adjacent wing. Not sure why they bothered there. "So So Hotel"
The 4th floor is to be avoided at this hotel as it is in the part where the roof comes down and the rooms are small with a small window. It lacked air circulation only with use of air conditioner. For the money it was not a great value. Otherwise the experience is akin to a nicer motel, only much bigger. The pictures grossly oversell this place. I'm surprised the building is even standing. "Big Disappointment...Stay Someplace Else"
Overall I was very disappointed with the this hotel. The hotel is no frills with only the basics. Only the rooms on the south/west side of the building have a small balcony, the other rooms don't. The entrances were not secure and you didn't need a pass card to get in. Our window was missing a screen. The TV reception only had basic local channels, […] half of which were Spanish stations. There were no "premium" channels which the hotel says they have. They hotel staff did not seem concerned when I brought to their attentions that guests were violating their "No Smoking" policy. The hotel staff did seem overly friendly or customer service oriented. To be fair, the hotel is centrally located near Big Bear Village which has many shops and restaurants within walking distance. They had hot water and the rooms seem relatively clean. I would not recommend this hotel, nor would I stay there again. When I go on vacation I want to stay in a place that's as nice as my home or nicer. That doesn't describe Northwoods Resort. "great location BUT terrible accomodations"
Great spot but there are several problems: 1. The room had graffiti made of gum in several locations that in my opinion wouldn't have been hard to clean if they had bothered to try. It kinda ruins the ambiance of the fireplace when there is old chewing gum strewn across it. 2. If you are looking to party, this is a great place. If you want a reasonable […] night's sleep, go somewhere else. Our room was flanked by several groups which partied very loudly and ran screaming through the halls, not until a reasonable time, but until 5:30am. We called the front desk at 3:30 to complain and they came and "broke up" one party, although the person who was supposed to be breaking up the party stood right outside our door talking loudly with a few of the group members for at least 45 minutes. I understand that there is only so much the hotel can do about such issues, but when we approached the manager the next morning he was very unapologetic and rather rude. 3. Perhaps this also should have been #1, but there are signs everywhere warning that food and beverages served on premise contain chemicals know by the state of CA to cause reproductive harm, birth defects and even cancer. A second sign warns that those chemicals are present on premises and doesn't specify in the food. I'm sure there is a reasonable explanation for these signs, but no one seemed to have one. We received two conflicting stories about the signs 1-that it referred to the grease on the cooking pans so you'd have to lick the pans to be exposed and 2- it was because they had cleaning substances on site and all hotels with restaurants had to post those signs. The second is obviously false because I've been to many hotels with restaurants with no such warning. It seems to me that perhaps even the staff have no idea what they're being exposed to. It may or may not be a real threat but guests have a right to know what it is and make the decision for themselves. I also think that those warnings should be listed on h Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"A college fraternity HQ with thin walls"
A very important requirement for staying at any hotel is the capability to sleep comfortably. This is especially critical if you'll be skiing or snowboarding the next day. Let's face it, you're paying hundreds each night and you should at least expect some rest. Most hotels know that this is a top priority and ensure some range of time in the evening […] for silence. NOT this hotel! We had the fortunate opportunity to book our reservations at the same time as 2 Fraternities and 1 Sorority were having their get together. When you mix girls, boys and alcohol, at a place far away from their parents, there's bound to be trouble. It's common for college students to have absolutely no consideration for other sleeping guests or their families and basically treat any place they stay as an extension of their activities on campus. Immature kids will be inconsiderate, immature kids. But it should be the concern of the hotel to enforce a time when all guests can rely on being able to rest. This was where Northwoods royally failed. We had to call down to the front desk several times since all the college kids continued to yell, scream, run, whistle, play football, bang walls and break hallway lights, between the hours of 1-3:30am. Somehow, someone forgot to tell management that not everyone who stayed at the hotel belonged to the college crowd. When a hotel books 3 groups of rude, inconsiderate kids, it should expect this sort of activity and plan accordingly. Northwoods claimed to have hired "extra" security, however, when we called the front desk, only one person would answer and respond with, "I'll take a look". Having one manager-on-duty, to patrol the hallways, while leaving the front desk vacant, hardly qualifies as "extra". When he actually did arrive on the floor, a college student, posted near the stairs/elevator, would act as a "spotter" and alert the wild animals to briefly duck into their caves. Once passed, the zoo ambience would continue. Maybe we had been taking quiet Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Poor customer service at desk"
I was excited to go back to Big Bear since its been almost a year, I decided to bring my family there for the weekend since there was fresh snowfall. We got there around noon time. The place wasnt that bad. I really liked the location. The only thing was the customer service at front desk, there was never any manager around, even for the weekend! i […] was kind of shocked. The reason i wanted to talk to the manager was because the hotel became a fraternity house! There were college kids all over the place yelling, sceaming , running and in the pool late at night even in 17degree weather! We had a rough time sleeping and attempted to call the front desk to complain but they didnt do anything. Seems like they just wanted the money more than they cared about thier reputation as a family hotel. The next day i went to the front desk and asked if they could do something about these college kids running and screaming but they said that they had security that would handle it. During breakfast i asked the waitress what was up , and she said these kids were rich college kids, i kinda figured since i saw alot of really nice cars outside which i thought the hotel would be ritzy. Overall the hotel was clean and the maintenance people were nice. The customer service in the front desk was horrible. they would not even notice you were there. It would take about 3-4 times to say excuse me until they would answer you. Very rude and not friendly at all. I am definitely not going back there again. The room was ok, but the walls are super thin and you can hear everything going on, espcially since this hotel supports college partying! keep away if you want to sleep at night of if you have kids. "Lots of other resorts in the area"
I booked this resort primarily based on the reviews on here. It received high reviews (4 out of 5 stars), and I have to say it did NOT live up to my expectations. Besides the early check-in, I was not satisfied with this room. I reserved an upgraded room with a King bed. As soon as you walk into the room, the bathroom sink / wash area is on the right. […] I don't know about other rooms, but my wash area smelled like a high school locker room. It smelled musky, with a faint urine smell. After the first night, I realized how uncomfortable the bed was. I wasn't able to make it through a whole night of sleep without waking up (even after a whole day of snowboarding). On the second night, the room next to mine (which was apparently vacant) had an alarm that went off at around 11:30 PM. After waiting 15 minutes, I had to call the front desk to have them send someone over to turn it off. I figured housekeeping would make sure all the alarms are off in the vacant rooms. The face on my alarm clock came off when I touched it. I just unplugged it and used my cell phone. The TV was from 1995...It was an old zenith (probably about 15"). It was mounted on a straight rail with a platform that wouldn't turn so you can't watch TV while you're laying in bed. The resort was supposed to have free WiFi. They were having a problem with their router when I arrived. I called the front desk to let them know. They "left a message" for their IT guy. They never got back to me after that and WiFi didn't work during the whole stay there. I had brought some work to do that required the internet. Luckily I had my cell phone with me and was able to wirelessly tether my laptop. Overall my stay here was horrible! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Bring earplugs!!!"
This hotel is the noisiest hotel I have ever stayed in. Every flush, every conversation, every door closing could be heard inside the room. Every footstep down the hall squeaked and was awakening. The room we stayed in was very dirty and had not been vaccumed at all. When I laid down on the bed and glanced down behind the headboard at the floor, it had old pills, trash and tons of debris. "Attic room equals "Junior King""
They call it a "Junior King" size room but in reality you are bunking down in the attic. The hallway to your room is narrow and the floor is squeaky and coupled with the slight mildew odor from the carpet you get a feeling of being that redheaded stepchild being bunked down in the attic. If you are unfortunate enough, as we were, to be given a room […] at the end of the hallway, you’ll have a long walk from the one elevator that lets you off at the far end – there is only one elevator for the floor with the attic rooms! When I attempted to open the door to my room (406), the handle failed to operated properly as it hung listless failing to make a mechanical connection. I had to adjust it horizontally to configure it and then reinsert my card key to gain access. I rationalized the situation saying to myself that I would only be here a few days and didn’t need the “Taj Mahal.” So I used the facilities in my room and after the first flush, my toilet stop-up and water slowly rose to the rim. Maintenance took an hour to arrive to clear the pipes. I then went to the window to see the view. The only window is approximately four feet above the floor and impossible to look through unless you are 7 feet tall. So I stood on the only chair in the room to add an extra two feet to my height. My view of the pool area was still blocked by the roof and two chimneys that flanked the narrow window. I knew there were humans out there because I could hear them.
