"Nice place, but far from the center of Portsmouth"
We decided to stay at the Hampton for New Years Eve 2012/2013. The hotel was very clean and comfortable and they had a small guest reception from 4:30-6:30 where they offered free wine (boxed, but whatever), soda, Redhook IPA, pretzels, and popcorn to the guests. Not a bad little starter for the evening. The room was clean and comfortable and although […] the pool and jacuzzi were slightly overrun by kids while their parents got hammered at the pool-side table I didn't spend enough time there to care. So we went for a comedy show and to a couple bars in the center of town for New Years and it was a great time. However, with the massive amount of people in the center of town around 1:30-2AM the cabs were practically being mauled by folks trying to get a ride - not to mention it was nearly 10 degrees F outside. We decided to start walking in the direction of the hotel to get away from the large groups of people and hopefully have a chance of grabbing a cab... nope, they all just sped right on by us. We were waving cash around in the air and they still sped by us. It took about 35 minutes of walking in the freezing cold until a kind soul finally stopped and gave us a ride back. "Perfect place to stay for a night in Portsmouth"
This hotel far exceeded my expectations. We chose it for the reasonable price and close proximity to downtown (without the downtown prices). When we arrived it was the complimentary cocktail hour. We were able to relax and enjoy several drinks and snacks. When we were ready to head out for the night we used the free shuttle service that dropped us off […] right in front of our restaurant saving us cab fare one way. The rooms were spotless and very soundproof- it sounded like we were the only people in the hotel. Also, I have a very difficult time sleeping in hotel beds, but it was the most comfortable hotel mattress/pillows/bedding I have ever experienced. "Great Girls Weekend"
A girlfriend and I decided to get out of town for a few days and relax so we booked our weekend stay (1/27/2012-1/29/2012) here. The staff were all extremely nice and accomodating. The hotel itself is undergoing renovations which was no issue for us (there was no noise, all the workers tried very hard to keep themselves and their tools out of the way). We took advantage of the Manager's Reception and we weren't alone, everyone seemed to come down to join in the free beer and wine socializing. The highlight of our trip was most certianly our beds - our double room had the most fantasticly comfortable beds that we didn't want to leave. Can't say enough good things about this hotel. We had a nice sized fridge and microwave in the room... along with our flat-screen TV, we could lounge and snack and watch movies all Sunday morning. Absolute bliss! The only criticism I would offer is to avoid the scrambled eggs in the morning and go for the hard boiled. Not sure what they were using for those eggs but it was not the same high quality as everything else in the hotel. very nice, staff was very accommodating and the shuttle was great. The hotel was under renovation but it was being done in such a manner that it did not inconvenience at all and noise wasn't a factor. We stayed in one of the renovated rooms and it was very nice. "Good hotel, but misleading advertising"
We went to the Hampton Inn with 5 other families for New Year's Eve. The staff was nice and let us check in a few hours early and put us all on the same floor. The room was clean, except my son found a comb on the floor which someone before us apparently forgot and the cleaning person did not see. They advertised a "manager's reception" between 5-7pm […] with free drinks and appetizers. Although they did have many drinks to choose from, their appetizers consisted of popcorn and cheese and crackers...really, that was it. I was not expecting a great buffet or anything, but if that was all they were offering, they should not have used the word "appetizers", as I feel it is misleading. The pool was clean, the workout room was tiny but had 5 cardio machines, and the lobby was pretty good sized with sofas on one side and tables and chairs on the other. The next morning, breakfast consisted of eggs, home fries, biscuits and gravy, bagels, a waffle maker, fruit salad, etc. I give them credit for a good free breakfast. "My New "Happy Place""
First and foremost, the staff at the hotel are the most friendly, helpful and generous folks I've ever met. We arrived just in time for Happy Hour which is a set up in the lobby with an abundance of tables and one bartender. The way it's put together every night allows for guests to get to know each other and share friendly conversation and stories […] of the day.......and drinks are free! There is always fresh fruit on hand as well as coffee, apple cider and other refreshments through the day. The breakfast is wonderful with much to choose from and once again, set up in a friendly atmosphere of close tables with other guests. Free shuttle bus service to restaurants and shopping with quick pick up once you call the driver. The rooms are nothing out of theordinary, the usual hotel decor, but they offer a fridge and microwave, great if you travel with kids. Very comfortable beds and linens, large bathrooms with thoughful extra's. We travel to NH every Thanksgiving weekend for the shopping and to get together with family and have stayed in many area hotels.....this one is the best choice yet and we consider it a 'keeper'.
