West of the Willamette River, downtown offers a celebrated skyline, walkable streets, and a lively arts scene. Visitors shop tax-free at Powell’s Books and Portland Saturday Market, a craft lover’s paradise. Area festivals include Cinco de Mayo and the Oregon Brewer’s Festival. The Oregon Zoo, the swank Pearl District, and the inviting Pioneer Courthouse Square are other noteworthy attractions.

Excellent location- loved the walking trail along the river. Spa amenities and continental breakfast were superior!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Response by River’s Edge Hotel & Spa Dear Guest, We are very glad to know you enjoy our location, the spa amenities and continental breakfast. Thank you
This hotel is off the beaten path a little bit, but it is very close to Portland's excellent public transportation system, which is easy to use and very affordable. Another plus is the continental breakfast... it's not your typical food. The spread includes home-made baked treats (the banana bread was more moist than my mother's!) and a delicious house-made […] granola filled with nuts and dried fruit. We loved the fact that the breakfast is available right at the elevators on every floor, so it's easy to pop out to the table for another cup of coffee or a glass of orange juice and pop back into your room. Response by River’s Edge Hotel & Spa Dear guest, We really appreciate your comments about your recent stay with us. Thank you for mentioning the proximity to downtown Portland and the delicious house made granola part of our continental breakfast which we have upgraded and now is served in the Spa Café located next to the Lobby. "Family CHRISTMAS '12 in Portland"
Nice SPA, except you need to maker SPA reservations when you make hotel reservations... they were sold out for 4 days. Hotel river side worth the extra $10/day. Nice walk/run/bike path going south to park. Hotel staff did not know that path went thru park down to Sellwood Bridge then back up path into Portland cross Ross Island Bridge and back to hotel... […] about a 7.3 mile track. Weather was rainy as it always is so be prepared with layered clothing to cover into the low 30s (seems like 20s when wind blowing). Zoo Lights were a hit. "Great stay"
I was very pleased with the hotel. The staff were very friendly and helpful with everything. Loved the view of the river and the restaurant was amazing. We were able to get around Portland via the convenient street cars close by. Would stay there again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Nice place to stay"
The view of the river from the restaurant was lovely. Service throughout the hotel was great. The location is a bit out of the way. The old CRT TV's are in need of replacement.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

Wonderful hotel! Valet is a pain and the wireless did not work in room were the only distractions. If you pay for a riverview steer clear of the ground floor as the trees block the panorama. Everything else was great.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Avalon Spa Portland"
Bring a car you'll need it. This hotel is not downtown. Rooms are nice, but if not on the river side you have a view a wall. Fitness center is large and well equipped. Valet parking guys are quick and helpful.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"What a surprise!"
Recently I was in Portland Or and tried to get into a different hotel closer to the downtown area. I found the Avalon Hotel and Spa on line and I was so pleased and surprised to find a GREAT Hotel and Spa. I would stay here again and certainly tell all of my friends to do the same!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great place to stay"
The Avalon is a very nice boutique hotel in the John's Landing area just south of downtown Portland. The room we had was a bit small but we had a great view of the Willamette River. The restraunt next door was very convenient and lovely. The hilight for me however was the fitness area. You could call it a fitness center. Unbeleivable!!! A nice little […] continental breakfast on every floor. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"The hotel Avalon in Portland, OR"
Great hotel...service was great! Valet was nice and courteous. The room was good, (not great). I was disappointed at a "4 star" hotel that the bathroom did not have its own separated toilet. You see this in some hotels, its a small thing. I would recommend staying in this hotel, its close to downtown and the water front. Also it has 2 great restaurants […] next to it!
