The front desk service of this hotel aside from one excetion, was awful. You are first greeted by an outstanding 14 dollar per night parking fee, normaly I would be fine with this, but the lack of maintance, the confusion of the garage and the size of the spots make this lot a disaster. You walk into a lobby with an odd smell and outdated look. The […] staff is a mix of over bearing and unfriendly staff. There is no help with your bags, so pack light. The elevators are a little shaking but fast. Rooms aside from awesomely large and comfy beds, are small. The hotel has no individual ac, they do supply a fan or a space heater, and a window, so there's that. Hotel roof bar "windows" while a dump offers an awesome view of the city. Location is great and the Max is less then a block away. Overall I won't be staying here again and will pay the extra money to stay at the amazing hotel Marriott up the street. Great location, however rooms were hot and stuffy, construction blocking parking in thier lot, old and stained toilet seats. In addition no one informed me of a live band playing late into the night shaking and blasting through out the hotel. I will not stay here again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Like a Motel 6, but with horrid parking"
Check-in was quick and easy. The room was decent, but the bed not so comfortable. The biggest complaint about the room (and we were on the 2nd floor) was the noise. We heard the MAX light rail-trains and road noise all night long. The elevator during a couple of trips had a strong sewage odor. Otherwise, it was fine. We tried to eat breakfast in the […] attached cafe, but the staff was more worried about delivering room service than servicing customers in the dining area. We ended up walking out without even getting to order because we were in a hurry. Another couple came in just after us and never even got acknowledged or seated in a span of 5 minutes. The parking spaces are TINY and most are next to great big columns. The cost of parking is a turn-off as well, though it only applies to overnight stays. It is actually quite convenient if you stay the night before an event at the Convention Center (across the street) as you don't have to move your car. The Red Lion Inn website shows a swimmer icon next to this location on its website, but don't be fooled. There is no pool! Happy Hour in the lounge is family-friendly and a good value. The staff in the lounge were very nice and the view is pretty terrific. Overall, I would call this a 2-star hotel, not more because of the noisy rooms, poor parking spaces, and the disappointing cafe. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Can find something better"
The hotel was outdated and run down. My room was in decent shape, but I definitely had to use the portable heater as I was cold most of the time. The best part was how close it was located to the MAX. However, my room was right next to the stop...needless to say, I didn't sleep very well.Genuine Expedia guest review

"wont return here"
The hotel was ok if you dont mind parking a block away in an unsecured lot in a sketchy part of town. The rooms had a dated feel with low ceilings, kind of felt like a coffin. Everything else was passable and by that I mean one step above a motel 6. Small bathrooms and cramped rooms. The price was a little cheaper, however, in the future I will spend […] a little more to stay somewhere nicer. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Wouldn't stay there ever again. Disappointment. Want a good nights rest? Don't pick try his hotel. Right by the freeway, super noisy. Lights were burned out in my room. Looks like a motel. Charged me double almost. And you have to pay for parking $12 per night . Heater in by room didn't work, I had to sleep in the cold that night.Genuine Expedia guest review

"close to convention center and LOUD trolley"
I could only score a 3 on the comfort of my room strictly because the trolley stop was incredibly LOUD and inconveniently less than a block outside our window. It ran all night until 1 am and started up again at 5am. It sounded like a loud thunder storm approaching every 15 mins. It would often interrupt our conversations. If it wasn't for some earplugs, […] I would not have slept at all. Also, we ate dinner in the cafe on Friday and they were way understaffed. Our server seamed to be running room service as well and it took us over 45mins to get our food and our steak was horribly dry and not cooked as we ordered. We were in a big hurry so we just ate it and ran. My breakfast was cooked as I liked it but the quality of the food was maybe fair. I wouldn't stay there again unfortunately. "Caters to business & not families or individuals"
TV only broadcast Analog, desk lamp did not work, the room faced a street that the Light Rail travels on so about every 7 minutes it sounded like motorcycles were going by. "Noisey and very disappointing"
Our room was extremely noisey (transportation runs just outiside of hotel). Half of our outlets did not work and when we checked out and told the front desk, they were very rude to us. They said the outlets work off of a switch (untold to us upon check-in) but when we tried to explain that on one outlet, the top one worked but not the bottom, they still […] replied, "yea, that's how it is." I will never stay here again. We were traveling up from California with this our third night out. It was our most expensive room and by far, the worst. "Really?..."
So I'll try to stay objective, but here is the scoop on this location. first the Good: Centrally located, right near the convention center, which would be good if you had to be at the convention center. Nice bathroom fixtures, nice front office staff. Now the Bad: Old hotel, needs major upgrading, but even simple things like the shower needed to be […] recaulked, black mold showing through, Room staff in street clothes (no uniform) makes me nervous, anyone can make a nametag and say they worked there. We never felt safe in this hotel, bolting out doors and taking all valuables when we left for the day, Daily Parking rate of $12 a day, this should be comp for the guests of the hotel, Noisy - at night and first thing in the am was the noise of the public transit and the street traffic noise, No actual AC - not that big deal but I Like to control the temp and preffer a cold room when I stay somewhere. Rooms was super cramped. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"NO A/C and lots of trains!"
This Hotel has no A/C. The room temps are controlled by the hotel staff and if you want it cooler they give you a fan. If you would like it a little warmer you gat a space heater. "Not as nice as the pictures"
I was on the 2nd floor the hotel was not in that great of condition. The carpets were dirty in the hallway and it had a weird odor. I did like the roof top bar, its far from a restaurant, even though they did server food.. The Halibut fish and chips was fantastic.. I didn't like having to pay to park when a block away it was free. Parking is tight and […] if you have a larger car or truck you can forget about it.. Also if you come in late, like I did most of the spots were full, which is the same problem I had at another Red Lion. The train is very close making it easy to get to downtown.. The biggest selling point to this hotel for me was the location, if you want easy access to downtown and some of the Portland night life its worth the money. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Very Dissappointed"
We were pretty shocked that Red Lion had their name on the hotel. The staff was nice but the facility was very second rate. The walls were so thin we could here normal conversation in the next room. We could see the plumbing in the bathroom and the wall was peeling around it. The neighborhood also seemed questionable. Great access to Lloyd Center but […] we didn't always feel safe. we booked the hotel based upon the brand name and proximety. The hotel smelled musty, and has paper thin walls. "Dirty and unfriendly"
When we first arrived the person at the front desk for check in was kind of rude and we were an hour early and she said I have only one room that fits your reservation but it is on the far side near the road and it is loud. If you come back later I can have a better one. So we came back at three our original check in time and she said we still don't […] have a room for you with a king size bed...none of the others are clean yet but I can give you one with two queens for the same price. So we said fine. The room was small and over looked the busy road anyway and it was loud. The bathroom was dirty especially the shower. The soap holder was barley hanging on the wall. Additionally they make you pay 12 dollars for parking in their parking lot which is really the only convient place to park without fear of your car being broken in to. The neigborhood is not really very nice. Homeless people outside. There were also some people yelling at each other just outside the lobby entrance and they were street walkers. The thing about the parking that upset me is that they don't tell you about the fee until you get there. I would not and will not stay at this place again. It is sad the Red Lion used to be a nice hotel chain my grandmother was a head chef at the one just outside the Sea-Tac airport that used to be so nice, now it is a double tree. We shouldve stayed at the Double Tree in Portland and just paid the little bit extra money. I don't reccommend this place unless you are really not able to aford better. Hotel is ok if you need a place to lay your head for 1 night and you're not trying to impress anyone. Confined quarters (even in my 2 queen bed room), paper thin walls, noisy staff that is up early.. I believe the flat screen tv was the only upgrade in the room since late 90's .. anyhow like I said, good hotel if you need a quick place to lay your head. […] Bad hotel if you're wanting to impress your company or feel safe with your family. Parking is limited and not complimentary but the lot does have security cameras. Of course not many places will ever live up to our daily living standards.. especially if thousands of bodies move through the hotel. When in doubt pay the extra cash for a better hotel. "Okay budget hotel"
This hotel is okay for the price. The room i stayed at was very small, faced the tram line and was noisy, smelled like it had been smoked in for years covered by chemicals to try to mask the smell, the decor in the room was outdated, and the bathroom tiny. I read other reviews before i arrived so i knew it wasn't going to be some luxerious stay and […] was prepared to stay in a budget hotel but was surprised at how the photos advertized on Expedia did not match the room i stayed at (i stayed here and two other friends in different floors so i saw 3 rooms). The photos make this place look chic and hip but it's not, it's a run down old hotel with bandaids put in like cute rugs in the hallway and elevator which do little to change the energy and look of the hotel. The plus side- there is a cafe attached to the hotel so you can have breakfast easily, the tram stop is close by, and the convention center is right across the street. The walls are paper thin so you can hear EVERYTHING, just a warning if you are jetting off for a romantic weekend. I ended up paying 20$ more and upgrading to the courtyard Marriot which was 100% nicer than the red lion. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
