"Love the decor, donuts and location"
Great location. Red star restaurant was good, especially happy hour. Loved the wine/beer tasting hour and the voodoo donuts in the morning. Great room although being on the 2nd floor meant sometimes navigating around attendees for the function rooms. Underground parking was pricey but convenient. "Great location, great hotel, but a few problems"
I went to Portland for the first time recently, and based on the quality of reviews, decided to stay at the Monaco. The location is fantastic - easy walking distance to Pioneer Square, Saturday Market, and all downtown locations and museums. I did have a few small issues, however. (1) the WiFi in my room was not working properly when I arrived. Rather […] than fixing it themselves or moving me to another room, the hotel made me spend an hour on the phone with tech support trying to fix it. They should have handled it themselves and not made me deal with it; and (2) I asked for a 5:00 wake-up call on the day I was leaving - the call came at 5:30. "A beautiful hotel in a convenient location."
The hotel is only three blocks from the light rail train that goes to the airport, and only $2.50 compared to $40.00 by cab. There are places to eat in every direction and a real short walk to the park. For lunch the food vendors were open and the chinese food we had was delicious and reasonably priced. I loved the Hotel Monaco. The staff is exceptional and provided super friendly, warm service without seeming stuffy or too formal. Shout-out to the valets, who were extremely helpful and made me feel welcome each time I left and returned to the hotel. Great customer service and lots of food carts just a couple blocks away so it's a plus for foodies. Don't stay on a lower floor if street noise bothers you. Two minor complaints: the work desk is small and the power strip cord to plug in your electronics looked a bit piecemealed for any business traveler. This is a class hotel, and close to everything I needed to visit. But the area has show definite decline since I was last here. It has been a year since my last visit to Portland and I was VERY disappointed at the decline of the downtown area. Being a dog lover I was welcomed to this grand lobby by a lovely blackboard that welcomed all of the canine guest that were staying at the hotel that evening. Also a lovely wine tasting was going on in the lobby sitting room, evidently this is a nightly event. My room was oversized, well apointed and very quiet. The Monaco is an absolutely classy hotel.
