"Satisfactory customer service"
A year ago my family and I stayed at this same hotel and we were impressed with the customer service. We were sure we would be back. We raved about the Kimpton. This time around the service was not at the same level and we were disappointed because this time we invited others to come to Portland and convinced them to stay here for the "service". We […] enjoyed the wine hour, the decor, the lobby like the last time but without the exceptional level of service it was not the same. This time we were not always greeted with smiles. Sometimes no eye contact. We were asked by valet to call ahead 15 mins to let them know when we could bring down our luggage to load. When we called, however, we could hear the guy give out a sigh of frustration over the phone. To sum it all, the stay was pretty typical of a hotel stay in a comfy hotel in a great location. Our friends said it was "nice" but they didn't understand why we raved about it from our stay last year. I would rate this last stay 3 stars out of 5. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Love the decor, donuts and location"
Great location. Red star restaurant was good, especially happy hour. Loved the wine/beer tasting hour and the voodoo donuts in the morning. Great room although being on the 2nd floor meant sometimes navigating around attendees for the function rooms. Underground parking was pricey but convenient. I'd stay here again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Convenient for a quick business trip."
I was in late and out early. The staff was efficient and pleasant and the room clean and quiet, though a bit small. Valet parking was the only hotel option.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Nice dog friendly hotel"
So Dog friendly! thanks for giving them toys and treats!Genuine Expedia guest review
we are portland residents and wanted a night away from home. based on other kimpton stays we chose the monaco. great hotel w amazing design and ammenities. only downside is the location...too many bums and icky outside...i know we are a friendly city, but we were saddened to find that visitors to our city would have to see this side of it!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Downtown Portland....."
Have stayed here previously. Service from staff is always excellent! Encountered a defective refriderator and iron on our stay. The staff quickly brought us a replacement refriderator.... but time constrictions impaired our ability to get a replacment iron. Fortunately the club we attended for NYE was dark enough to hide the wrinkled shirt!Genuine Expedia guest review
"FUN AND WELCOMING"
We really enjoyed our stay in this fun hotel. We chose it because it was dog friendly, but it turned out to be very people friendly as well. The staff made us feel very welcome, and the funky decorating kept it interesting. The location was perfect for shopping and catching the MAX.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"clean, comfortable, friendly"
All was satisfactory at the hotel itself. My only complaint is the parking situation. First, there is no non-valet guest parking, nor could I find any other convenient, low-cost parking in the vicinity of the hotel with a working ticket booth. Parking at the hotel was $38 per night plus tips for the valets, which increased the anticipated cost of my […] 2 night stay by ~$100. This was a little frustrating, given that the Hotels.com rate was the only reason I could afford to stay here on this visit, and I did not see any info about parking fees before I arrived. On my first night, I returned late to the hotel and found the hotel lot gate closed with a 'lot full' sign in front. I drove around looking for parking for about 30 min (in part because of my unfamiliarity with the area, and the fact that downtown Portland consists exclusively of one-way streets) before I finally parked in front of Hotel Monaco at the curb and went in to speak to the front desk, at which time they told me the lot was not actually full, and they arranged for the gate to be opened for me. The following night I also had to park in front and enter the lobby to ask to be let in. It seems that there should have been a call box at the gate for people who are staying at the hotel, or an option to swipe one's key to open the gate, as I've seen at other hotels. Good location. Unique, fun decor. Room service little slow. Staff helpful and friendly. Bath towels on the small side and not soft. Bed comfortable. They provide baby toiletries. We had a nice, relaxing stay there.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great location, great hotel, but a few problems"
I went to Portland for the first time recently, and based on the quality of reviews, decided to stay at the Monaco. The location is fantastic - easy walking distance to Pioneer Square, Saturday Market, and all downtown locations and museums. I did have a few small issues, however. (1) the WiFi in my room was not working properly when I arrived. Rather […] than fixing it themselves or moving me to another room, the hotel made me spend an hour on the phone with tech support trying to fix it. They should have handled it themselves and not made me deal with it; and (2) I asked for a 5:00 wake-up call on the day I was leaving - the call came at 5:30. Thankfully, I had set a back-up alarm, or I would have been late getting to the airport. Otherwise, I enjoyed my stay and would stay there again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Monaco = Portland-style FUN!"
The Hotel Monaco Portland has the most fabulous decor. It's pet and kid friendly. The staff is amiable and prompt. The valets were quick to bring us the car each day. Overall, a great stay. The only complaint: cheesenips on the floor of our room; a gift left from the previous guests.Genuine Expedia guest review

"A quality place"
Standard Queen room is a bit small. But, the place had all the amenities and a great location. Everything was very clean, they allowed an early check-in and a late check-out. It was festive for the election, and a big screen television was placed in the foyer so that persons could gather and watch the election returns. I am quite satisfied.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Response by Hotel Monaco Portland, a Kimpton Hotel Thanks so much for your recent review ofd the Hotel Monaco Portland. The standard queen can be small. In the same standard category with the same price points we offer the king deluxe. Much better space. We look forward to the pleasure of serving you again in the hopefully near future.
"Very nice, but not perfect"
This is a nice boutique-ish hotel, close to many stores and restaurants in the heart of Portland. Very easy access from I-5. Service was overall very good, but not being met by an attendant in the rain as we pulled up was a bit of a negative. Hotel is funky in it's decorating style, which I liked. Had a king suite-very nice room. The bathroom was surprisingly […] small and not all that special, which was a negative. Also, there was a swizzle stick laying in the floor from a previous guest, so it made me wonder how well the room had been cleaned. It appeared fine besides that. Front desk was very attentive and helpful-it was clear they "get it". Definitely a plus. The wine and beer happy hour was a bit of a cattle call. I didn't think it was really worth it. Overall, though, it's a very nice place with attentive employees. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Response by Hotel Monaco Portland, a Kimpton Hotel Thanks so much for your recent review of the Hotel Monaco Portland. I'm so sorry our attendant was not at the door. We provide a doorman from 7 am until 11 pm daily. Yes our wine hour can be busy, it is very popular with our guests. We look forward to your next visit.
"Restaurant"
One server in restaurant could have been more friendly (tatoos and ear rings and pony tale - don't know name) His attitude made us feel that we were a nuisance to him and it was obvious he did not like his job! "Not bad, not great"
I got room 302, which is a kind of corner room - it was an extremely small room for a single queen bed. The TV was on top of the dresser, and the desk was more like a nightstand with all of the welcome materials all over it. Felt cluttered. The decor was an interesting mix of design and art inspired wall papers with rather strange details, like the […] faux deer antler light fixture in the bathroom. Bathroom was very clean, very spacious in fact. The iron was dirty and leaked which I found annoying - these hotels should just get new irons - they don't cost a lot. Staff was very nice, parked on the street overnight and saved $. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Response by Hotel Monaco Portland, a Kimpton Hotel Thanks you for your recent review of your visit to the Hotel Monaco Portland. First, I have changed the leaky iron in room 302. My apologies. Plus, we will implement a program to check all irons on a more frequent basis. Second, I completely agree that room 302 is pretty small with limited desk space. Fortunately we only have 9 of these rooms. The majority of our rooms are 550 to 750 square foot suites. We hope that you will return and book one of our larger suites.

"Friendly central location"
This is a cheerfully decorated and very staff friendly hotel in downtown Portland. The lobby offers free hot beverages in the morning and free iced tea and lemonade and Blue Bunny ice cream in the summer afternoons. It is also very dog-friendly and there were a lot of dogs crossing through the lobby with their owners the weekend we were there (there […] was a special doggie event going on.) Amazingly, the dogs are quiet and well-behaved. The rooms are decorated in a Fellini-Dali-esque style, with bright colors and some goofy furniture (a lamp with duck feet for example.) The beds were on the firm side but very comfy. Bathrooms tend to be smallish but water pressure was good. The rooms are not super spacious so am not sure this would be a good hotel for small kids. My only complaint is the noise from the garbage trucks at 2-3 am which you may hear if your room overlooks that street. The staff was very friendly and helpful. "Beautiful Hotel"
Their entire staff is their asset-friendly, upbeat and helpful. I like the decor. But the hotel literature, brochure... make the place look a bit cluttered.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Heads-up"
The only thing I was not happy with was receiving a room on the 2nd floor which was designed to be accessible. That along with the decorating of the room were the only negatives.Genuine Expedia guest review
Response by Hotel Monaco Portland, a Kimpton Hotel I apologize that the room you were assigned to on the second floor was handicapped accessible, and not a standard room. Also, thanks for your comments about the decorating... it is very ecclectic. It is designed to stimulate the senses. It takes it's inspiration for Oregon Forests, Portland, and all things Oregon. A classic example of that would be the duck feet lamp as tribute to the U of O. We look forward to your next visit.

"Hotel Monaco Portland - Great location"
Very nice hotel. The hotel has been remodeled, but still has elements that could possibly use a bit more touch up cosmetically. The service here is very good and the amenities are nice. I would definitely recommend others to stay here. It's in a great location, in downtown Portland. You'll enjoy your stay here.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Response by Hotel Monaco Portland, a Kimpton Hotel Thanks for your recent review of the Hotel Monaco Portland. I will pass your kind comments along to our staff. While we have remodeled 90% of the hotel you are right we still have some work to do on the lobby and public areas. We should be done by June 1st. We llok forward to your next visit.
"Fun and Funky Style, Great Location"
I love Kimpton Hotels, they have fun styling and lots of "creature comfort" extras. Being pet friendly, they are a favorite for stays when the pup comes along. The only complaint I had was in the cleaning of our room. We checked in late, so we just dealt with it. Not the attention to detail I have seen during other stays. Staff was helpful and friendly, […] the hotel comfortable and very centrally located. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Great location, small room"
Enjoyend our stay. Rooms were clean, service was good. Location was great. But the room was the smallest room we have ever stayed in. We have a one year old and there really wasn't much room to put his play pen to sleep. Very crowded for the three of us. For the price of the room, we expected something much roomier. Other than the size of the room, […] everything else was great! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"great hotel for downtown porland"
We visit Portland a lot and try to stay in a different hotel every visit to find the best of the best. We have stayed in quite a few so far and overall Hotel Monaco was a fantastic hotel. It has a funky botique feel to it which is unusual but fun. The wine hour was fantastic and the lounge area was beautiful and sociable. The rooms are slightly on the […] small side, but much better than the size of the rooms in other nearby comparable hotels (like Hotel Modera or Hotel Lucia). I think the showers can be updated, though. They were under-whelming and fairly prosaic for a hotel of this rating. The hotel itself is in a fantastic location, you couldn't ask for better. We would definitely stay there again. Just two complaints (other than the shower): On the day we were to check out, we had just finished breakfast and were returning to our room at about 9am to finish packing. A housekeeper cleaning the room next to ours asked what time we were leaving so she could clean the room. Very tacky and rude. I wouldn't accept this from a Holiday Inn let alone a four diamond hotel. But she was the only one we did not reciecve good service from, so I'm willing to write her off as an exception to the rule for this hotel. Second (and very minor), we stayed in a standard room, the bed was nice and long, but rather narrow. Didn't bother us much, but I did notice it. But overall a great hotel, we will be very likely to stay here again! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Staff great but room smelled"
Overall, the hotel was great and the staff was wonderful but my room smelled of dog. I am fine with hotels accepting pets but I think perhaps there should be designated rooms for pets only. I would have chosen a non-pet room.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Response by Hotel Monaco Portland, a Kimpton Hotel Thank you so much for taking the time to write a review. I am glad that you enjoyed your stay at the hotel. Wonderful service, beautiful rooms, amazing price on hotels.com, great location, very quiet rooms, wine/beer happy hour and lovely live pianist every evening, extremely helpful and friendly staff, fantastic fitness center. Arrived in Portland by Atrak from Seattle-area (Tukwila), easy walk to hotel. No car necessary, walked everywhere. (Ligh trail and transit available.) "Convenient Location and Comfortable Hotel"
The Monaco was a very pleasant surprise. The staff, from the valet's, who treated our 2 frazzled cats (not pleased at being forced to go on a 3hr road trip) with care when loading them on the cart; to the front desk and bell men who had such great attitudes and helpful. The bed was one of the best hotel beds I've ever slept in and so very comfortable. […] The room was smallish yet comfortable. That made up for the view of the Macy's shipping/receiving and trash area. I mention this because garbage trucks can be loud. We would probably stay there again but next time may not take the pets, to try out the Corner rooms. The room I requested was a corner suite room, however, with the cats, we were sent to the pet only floor. The result was a delay while another room was located. There needs to be a checkbox on the reservation form that calls out additional special needs like "Pets" to avoid this scenario. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
