This is a nice hotel, but not nearly as nice as others would have you think. We booked a "Deluxe King with Free Internet'. The first thing to note was despite what that might imply, the internet was not free. When I queried, they said 'Internet is never free with expedia', didn't care what my confirmation letter said. They did begrudgingly give me a […] code for a single device when I insisted, but that's it. The room was very small and the bathroom less than basic, hardly any room at all. I have no idea what I got for the extra money I paid for the 'deluxe' room, as it really couldn't have been any smaller or more basic. The high point of the stay was the restaurant - excellent, but you don't need to stay at the deluxe to use it. My advice is to stay in one of the other great hotels in portland, and just visit the restaurant. Read more

We had a Mom & Dad weekend getaway recently and stayed at the Hotel dlLuxe for the first time. We booked the bigger of the King rooms which was very comfortable and clean. Easy walking distance to the Pearl and Northwest districts and downtown. We walked to the Symphony. Staff was attentive and helpful. The bathrobes were comfy too. The only negative […] was there was no heat in the bathroom, which was a bit cold since it was very cold outside -- it was [slightly] snowing. It also is an old building, and we did smell a slight musty smell in the room. Food (and drinks) in the restaurant were very good. When we were told there is only Valet parking or street parking we were a little surprised. Instead of empathizing with us, the valet attendant said,"Everybody's got to make money." So we paid to valet the car with the hotel.

The Hotel deLuxe is superb! Exceptionally classy and fun. If you find a good rate, I say go for it. They have a pillow menu in case the pillows in your room aren't up to your standards. They also have a button on the phone just labeled "make it so." Upon pushing this button one of their many friendly staff members will attempt to provide you with whatever […] your heart desires. The location is great, just 3 blocks from the fareless square zone in downtown Portland, making it easy to see the downtown sights. Be sure to also check out the Hawthorne and Belmont areas with the purchase of a simple bus ticket. The decor is exceptionally classy and the entire hotel is lovely. Staff very courteous and helpful, convenient valet parking, location is excellent for walking to all the typical tourist locations including the river, the Saturday market, the rose garden, the Pearl district and just as convenient for getting into and out of town by car to visit the Columbia Gorge or the coast. Had a fantastic stay.

For the price a great place to stay. Of all the hotels we hit that week, that bed was by far the nicest, and most comfortable and the clerks at the desk were very helpful. easy walk to most places, and there is a train right there, just no indication as to how to use it. I we were staying longer, it would be handy. Only complaints were the $25 parking […] fee and one of the two elevator didn't work.... doors closed halfway and then stopped. This is a beautiful hotel and a great place to stay. Loved the art deco furniture and decor, and ambiance of the hotel. When we walked into our room there was 30's jazz music playing on the ipod and a great picture of Judy Garland. We didn't have a great view (just a view of the rooms across from us), so I would have asked for a room with a better view. […] Other than that it was a really great place. The Deluxe is a fantastic place to stay! Not only is it just a few minutes (downhill) walk to downtown Portland, but the service is always impeccable, the decor is classy in that kind of pseudo-art deco way, and the rooms are exceedingly cozy. I live in Seattle, but consider "The Deluxe" my home away from home. Great hotel with an old Hollywood theme. Most of guest services were wonderful, with one uppity, condescending exception. LOVED the "pillow menu" and the "make it so button." We were met at the door and details were handled, including early check-in. The room was nice, all remodeled, and quiet. We made a couple of small requests that were taken care of immediately. Only downside was luke warm water in the morning. Apparently the boiler had shut down during the night without their knowledge.

My husband and I traveled to Portland for our 2nd wedding anniversary and chose to stay at the Hotel deLuxe during our visit. Upon arrival, we were greated by friendly doormen and a welcoming front desk. The hotel is decorated in an 'Old Hollywood' theme, which was perfect for me. I absolutely loved the room keys (which the front desk let me keep when we checked out) as they were adorned with pictures of Fred Astaire, Audrey Hepburn and other Old Hollywood film stars. First--great location!! Very close to lots of downtown spots. Great bar in the hotel called the Driftwood. The mixologists were extremely talented and willing to create original drinks just based on what me and my husband had a taste for. Don't waste money parking your car for $19 though--one, because it costs to move your car in and out and two, there […] is plenty of on-street parking all around the hotel for a mere $1.60/hour, free between 7pm-8am. The check-in staff was friendly, but not exactly genuine. (To expound: our particular staff person came off extremely phony-nice. She was using a weird robot-like voice that was fakely pleasant and just plain odd, but she was definitely nice... just in a very weird, off-putting way.) Anyway, the room was very nice, though on the small side, but quality. The bathroom, too, was small, but had a nice deep bathtub. All in all the room was very pleasant, and nicely outfitted. Overall, this is a great hotel. The decor is pleasant and I enjoyed checking out the stills from various 30s and 40s movies that are hung everywhere. Staff is gracious and friendly. The two issues that I had with the hotel both concern the bathroom. One, the marble-tiled floor to the bathroom is raised about 6 inches above the bedroom. The person I […] was staying with stumbled over this step while attempting to use the facilities in the dark. And stubbing your toes on cold marble is never enjoyable. Also, I found the lever to turn on the shower extremely difficult to manage. I had to call the front desk at one point because I thought it was broken... I could not pull this thing up no matter how hard I tried. Even after they showed me how to twist and pull it at the same time, it was very reluctant to come up. Folks with weak hands or arthritis might find it impossible to take a shower. Other than those two (relatively minor) things, The place was great. The hotel didn't really fit into the neighborhood it's in, but I was there on a Sunday so I may have had a different perspective. Read more

Our room was very small and had a step up bathroom which held some sort of machinery underneath it as it swayed!! When I asked to be moved I was told they were full. I asked a maid to clean the room at 9 AM and it still was not cleaned at 2:30 PM. Then I asked the front desk to have it cleaned. After an hour it still wasn't cleaned! I went up to see […] the progress and was told it would be an additional 30 minutes! The front desk apologized and gave us a coupon towards the restaurant or room service. We stayed on the Alfred Hitchcock floor, which had related artwork throughout. I would like to hire the decorators to come redo my bedroom. LOVED the curtains, bedding, unique furniture. The Hotel Deluxe was walkable to every great neighbourhood including the Pearl, Nob Hill and downtown.
