I work at a hotel so I know what good service is and what a room should look like. The room was wonderful- the most comfortable bed I've ever slept on... at a hotel! Location was perfect- right in the middle of town. We walked to dinner, to the mall, to breakfast and to the bars. Everything was lovely. The ONLY complaint I have is parking. There was absolutely no parking- let alone overnight parking- nearby. I felt the hotel took plenty advantage of this by charging $31 a night for keeping your car in their lot (which was pretty much the only option unless you wanted to spent your whole day and night moving your car around and feeding the meters). The hotel is in the heart of DT portland. Overall its a okay hotel, employee were very nice. The room itself is old, tin walls and bed are comfy. I wish there was better lighting in the rooms and the bathroom.

The room was perfect. Spacious, old world feeling, great TV screen. As a wheelchair user, I was delighted with the very functional bathroom with roll in shower. I found out when checking out the next day that shower chairs are available for whose who request them. You should toot your own accessibility horn more-- really advertise amenities you offer […] to guests with disabilities. For travelers with mobility impairments (think rapidly aging population), it's like pulling teeth to get basic access info, especially when using a discount website. I chose The Benson first because of a rave review on this site by a disabled traveler and second by location and terrific rate. I will certainly put the Benson at the top of my list for my next "staycation." Read more

The Benson was once the scene of Portland's power breakfasts as well as much of its social life. Today, it has morphed into an elegant, nicely refurbished home away from home that is in the center of Portland and an easy walk or streetcar ride to all the fun places in this happening city.

Loved the location! Stephanie at the front desk provided excellent customer service and suggested awesome spots for us to check out! We also really enjoyed the nice comfy bed! I slept like a baby! Every aspect of The Benson is classy and fun. Spoiled at every turn from check-in, wine tasting, happy hour to check-out. The bed was harder than were used to but with service like this its so very easy to deal with. Thanks for a perfect evening.

we got a room in the hotel for New Years Eve and were so satisfied with our experience. It was the perfect home base for us to go out to celebrate and then be at a safe place. They valet's were so helpful in getting us taxi's. We had a wonderful stay and a wonderful evening

The Benson Hotel is wonderful. It is close to all of the wonderful sights of Portland. The staff is wonderful and the hotel itself is a grand building. It is also pet friendly. We have stayed twice and will stay here in the future.

The Benson with its history and grand lobby is a fun experience. Their breakfast buffet is well worth its cost, and will keep you well fueled for most of the day.

What really had us choose this hotel were the great beds and central location. Not a great view from the 4th floor but room was clean and roomy. The street noise didn't bother us. Be warned if you use the parking lot behind the hotel and don't have your car moved by 7am they will ticket you with a $34 fine. Outrageous considering we left by 8 am and […] the lot was nearly empty. A day of parking cost $10. That is the only part that soured this hotel stay. Read more

Powell's City of Books is nearby. Staff friendly and efficient. Beautiful old hotel but rooms have all the amenities. I love it when they brew up some free coffee in the lobby, too.

This is an old hotel (1912) that has been maintained beautifully. The rooms are comfortable and quiet although not huge. They all have Tempur-pedic mattresses, which is a nice feature. Hotel is on perfect location in downtown Portland. Lobby looks great but elevators, chairs, door knobs and carpets show signs of wear. Staff is very pleasant, courteous and expedient.

The room was quite small and as far as amenities go pretty average; they charged me $2 for a tiny tube of toothpaste. The King size bed on the other hand was amazing. the sheets and pillows were wonderful.

Room was small but nicely appointed and comfortable. It was very quiet. We stayed on saturday night and never heard another guest. Only complaint is our toilet seat was broken. Would stay again.

I've been staying at the Benson about once a year over the past 20 years and have to compliment the hotel for not losing their special touch of putting their customers' needs and comfort as priority number one! The entry and bar area are just as beautiful as the first time I stepped in the rotating door, however the rooms leave a lot to be desired. […] While the bed and furnishings were comfortable enough, the Junior Suite we stayed in felt cramped and it was quite a stretch to use the term suite in such accommodations. Will I continue returning to the Benson hotel... a resounding yes! For the service, the wine and it's ideal location to The Pearl, the water front, and especially Voodoo donuts! But I would really like to see Coast Hotels show this aging beauty the honor she deserves and give her rooms a much needed resize and facelift. The staff need not change... they are perfect as usual! We spent 3 nights at the hotel with 2 other couples and had a wonderful time. We received a very warm welcome, enjoyed the staff and entertainment in the lounge. Very peased with the hotel and the service provided.
