Situated on the northeastern edge of the city, PDX is a 40-minute light rail ride away from downtown. While the airport’s Oregon Marketplace offers a full menu of shops (including a Powell’s Books), its food selection also impresses. Travelers have their pick of microbrews, German fare, and sushi, among other dishes. First opened in 1958, the airport serves 13 million travelers annually.

"What Customer Service"
Have you ever been in a place where the fact you are a generous, effective and well resourced person does not matter Well that would be Shilo Inn PDX. If we had been ignored any more by service staff of this facility we simply would not have existed. In a time where the economy is so tense and those of us who are blessed with the opportunity to keep […] it moving, how distressing that you can't even get the common courtesy of being acknowledged and served with an understanding that one is choosing them to spend part of our good fortune with. Alas, in the next many trips we will be taking, this place is fully off out list. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Overall, the room is comfortable. The room is spacious, but the TV's are a bit dated. Other than the large LCD TV in the bedroom, the other two TV's are like a throw-back to the 70's. The furnishing appears a little worn, but otherwise acceptable. They do offer two areas for breakfasts: one is the continental breakfast in the lobby (which is a joke), […] the other is free breakfast from their restaurant. Don't bother go to the continental breakfast, even though it's the most obvious. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Overall good value but dirty room."
The hotel was nicer than expected except that the room was dirty at arrival. Hair on pillow cases, corn chips on the bed stand. a coke bottle down the side of the chair in the sitting area. random garbage under furniture. Mold in the bathroom and floor boards were dirty. Inattention to detail. The pool was well kept and clean. Breakfast was good. The […] restaurant is a bit over priced but the $10 salad bar at lunch was a good value. Very fresh, very clean. I did not appreciate hotel staff loitering and gossiping around the espresso bar at breakfast. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Good enough"
From the reviews and photos, I was expecting more from the hotel. It is perfectly good for what it is - an easy place to spend the night before catching a flight from PDX. However, there is nothing that screams "outstanding" about the hotel. Pluses: Freshly made lattes in the morning, quiet, coupon for free glass of wine at the restaurant, 24 hour […] access to fitness/pool. Minuses: Upkeep -- The light covers in the bathroom crashed onto the floor at 12am, waking me up. Breakfast is strictly continental -- no eggs or sausage like some hotels. Next time, I will look around for a different hotel. There wasn't enough to draw me back, and the bathroom light covers made it hard to sleep well afterward. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Only if you need clean place to sleep 4 the night."
I chose this hotel as a member of Expedia Elite Plus, since I can get VIP upgrades upon availablity. I was disappointed when I arrived at the hotel for one night prior to flying out of PDX. Front desk person was ok. Room was clean and up to par most of the way - I was a little confused that it seemed like room upgrades were done half-effort. Newer […] bedding, TV and chair - but when I walked into the bathroom to find a 1976 12 inch yellow TV, I just had to laugh - WHY!!!??? Why, was this even still installed? A few other things - I was on the first floor (115) in a double queen room. Bed was comfortable, but the location of the room was horrible! The room directly above us sounded like a hotel lobby - at 12 in the morning!!! People walking back and forth, slamming doors for a couple hours. The sound prevented me from a getting to sleep before waking up at 4am to fly out. Also, when my guest traveler got in the shower first - she turned it on and from the bed, it sounded like a loud helicopter taking off. So much for snoozing while waiting for my turn to get ready to leave. Continental breakfast - not that I expected much, as I know not to with CB's - but at 5am, I snuck over to see if there was anything I could grab quickly on the way to the airport. The fruit looked absolutely horrible and was small, beat up looking. Next time, I will not be choosing Shilo Inn. Used to be affordable excellence, not so much anymore... "Close to airport"
Whilst the service was friendly and the staff were very good and efficient, our room smelled of stale cigarette smoke and this dampened our stay. The staff offered us some carpet spray and insisted that the room was non-smoking per all their rooms. However the smell was very strong. Clearly the furniture and fittings were quite old dating back to when […] smoking was permitted. Also the mattress and way too soft for comfort. Not good value for the money as there are better options in the near vicinity re room facilities. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"A time capsule."
Everything is in good or reasonable condition considering the age of the furnishings. Room was also clean. But...wow...so dated. And I have never stayed in a hotel where their logo is plastered on just about everything. It's complete overkill. Another tip...this is a wood structure building. If you have noisy neighbors, you will hear them. You will […] even smell when they brew coffee at 3:30 AM! Ask for top floor rooms. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Clean but in need of update."
The hotel was clean. We had daughter's dog with us. Thus the room was in the part of the hotel that has not had any renovation in awhile. Every thing about the room reminded me of the 60's. Clean but old. The room was big with a spot sectioned off with a table and chairs. The free breakfast was terrific. Overall would recommend hotel.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Friendly staff"
I was first turned off by the hair I found in my bathroom, the stained grout in the bathroom, and the ripped shower curtain. I was pleasantly surprised by the kindness of two of the hotel lobby people. The steam room and pool was not as expected. "Dog barking at midnight!"
During my stay, there was dog barking in other room at midnight for at least 40 minutes to after 2 AM, I've called the front desk many times, they told me that they can't get guest in that room to respond, and they can't do anything for it! "Old"
The place COULD be nice. It needs to be re-done. It is just old. Traveling every week for work, I see my share of hotels, and this one NO WAY lives up to its rating. You won't get eaten alive or anything bad, just be prepared for an old and run down place not worthy of a star rating. They give you a breakfast, then tell you that you cannot substitute […] even though the value is X. My son ordered off the kids menu and they wanted to charge for it even though it was well less than the "free" breakfast. Utterly cheap and ridiculous. Again, could be a really nice place if they remodeled it but I would think they will go out of business as they are cheap as can be and will not spend the money to make more money, just take yours until you won't give anymore. "Looks great, but a bit quirky"
Our room was clean, larger than I expected and the beds were comfortable. The hotel was booked with youth basketball and youth bowling tournaments in the area so lots of kids around. Our friends booked here too. One had 3 people in the room, but only 2 towels. He had asked for towels 3 times and finally got one, the 2nd day of his stay. The night desk […] guy said they were short on towels because of all the kids going into the pool. We thought it was odd they didn't start with 4 in the room since it was a room for 4! Our other friends had to change rooms because the slats that hold the boxspring in place had shifted and she ran into them several times. She called for maintainance, but they didn't have anyone to fix it. We had issues with our room key not working and had to replace it twice. The toilet kept running after being flushed and required me to remove the tank cover and adjust it to make it stop. Walls are thin and I could hear the person in the next room coughing most of the night. The desk clerk on arrival was nice, but frazzled due to all the activitiy of kids running around. The pool area is so nice, it's not loud and the hot tub was huge, but kinda dirty from so many people using it in such a short period of time. The free hot breakfast was good, but kinda pricy for a glass of chocolate milk and not so great coffee. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Ask for the top floor"
My room was extremely clean and comfortable but the decor is very outdated (hello, etched glass mural from 1989). The front desk was friendly and helpful. It wasn't clear from their site or room book whether or not they had room service and by the time I had figured it out, it had ended. 10pm is the cut off, which seems a little early for an airport […] hotel? The one huge bummer was that I had to get up at 4am for a flight the next morning and after drifting off to sleep I was awakened by the sound of extremely loud squeaking as the upstairs guest came in to his or her room. I don't know if the person was enormous or if it's just the age of the hotel, but the floor squeaked and creaked every time they took a step and it was super annoying. I had a rough time getting back to sleep and ended up with only 4 hours before my flight and full day of work. Next time I'll be requesting a top floor room. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Awful Service"
I have never had so many complaints during a hotel stay as I did this one. The service was awful. There were only 2 towels in the room and 4 pillows and there were 5 of us. I had to call three times to have them bring more up to our room. I called once, waited an hour, nothing. I called twice, waited another 30 minutes, nothing. Finally had to go down […] there the 3rd time and pick them up ourselves, in which the lady at the counter didn't acknowledge us waiting and she wasn't helping anyone. Normally, I pack my own shampoo and conditioner. I didn't have any this time. Forgot it. With 5 of us in the room and 3 kids who swim alot, I needed more than one bottle of shampoo. You wouldn't believe the run around I got. At first, they said they would bring more up. Then they said they were completely out? Then they said the couldn't get to it, only housekeeping had the key and they were gone for the day? It was awful awful service. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"horrible customer service"
My fiance and I went their to celebrate our anniversary. When I check in the guest service representative was very nice and helpful. Our room was clean, however there was not another towels in the room. When we went down to the pool, there were no towels available. When I went to the front desk clerk, he was an old mean man who said he could only see […] if they could find some towels. So was I supposed to go swimming and get out without a towel when he had a stack of towels behind the counter. MY room was comfortable and close to great shopping and food(Cascade Station). Breakfast the next morning was horrible as we decided to go to the restaurant and it took 15 minutes before someone acknowledged us then another 30 minutes before they took our order, The food was ok but nothing special. Our waiter was overwhelmed and they had nobody staffing the bar but they had a bloody mary special going on. A manager came up and yelled at an employee who was trying to be helpful to other customers. I saw multiple people leave the restaurant because noone acknowledged them. Overall, I don't think I will stay there again! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Disappointing customer service"
The staff had an attitude that we were imposing on their time. Customer service wasn't their goal. We experienced this attitude especially with the front desk staff and even with the staff at the restaurant, other than that we loved the hotel. "Wouldn't take kids to hot breakfast at restaurant"
Didn't care for the free breakfast. They had a cold breakfast in the lobby and gave you a voucher to go to their restaurant and choose from a couple of different hot breakfasts. We went to the restauant & found out that we couldn't get juice with our breakfast unless we paid for it. You could have tea or coffee for free, but we don't drink either. I […] went back to the hotel to get the free juice they had their and bring back to the restaurant. When I complained to the front desk about it they did call over to the restaurant and allow us to have juice with our breakfast. That was nice of them, but it was such a pain. I would never go back because my kids would want juice and they wanted $3 for a small glass:( Ice machine was broke on our floor also. Ran out of towels at the pool. "Shilo Inn Suites - Portland Airport"
Sarah the girl at the front desk put a bad taste in my mouth the minute we arrived, we thought we had booked directly with the hotel and we told her that and she in an accusatory manner became very "condescending" in an instant. "You did not book with us, you used someone else", explained we called the 800 number on website, "You did not book directly […] with us", it did not matter who we booked with, we still had reservations, she also took a call from someone who was waiting to be picked up at the airport by the shuttle from the hotel and she was rude with that person on the phone also. "You will just have to wait for them to pick you up, I can't help that you are waiting, they come as fast as they can". She also made me right down the name of my other room-mates, I have never had to do that before, we booked for 3 and not once were there 3 sets of towels in the rooms. Had to call for towels each day. The pillows were horrible, too soft and mushy, if you are going to use 1/2 pillows then they should equal to something worth putting your head on. She also only gave us 3 breakfast tickets and said we would have to come back every evening to get new tickets for the next morning, we are not children we can keep track of our own meal tickets, So for 3 nights we every time we entered the front lobby I was irritated instantly by the memory of how Sarah treated me and my friends. This was 3 grown women going on a trip to spend time with our kids in Portland. Shilo Inn Hotel, you should really monitor your check in employees, First impressions and being called a liar, is no way a customer should be treated. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Very nice desk service. The room was spacious for the price. Only concern were the 'out of service' washers. "Nice but disappointing"
Getting to the hotel from the freeway was a breeze. The staff was nice. Room overall was large and the bed was comfortable. Did not partake of the free breakfast. As far as cleanliness and noise... Found a long black hair (not ours) on my hand towel and a dirty wash cloth on the shower curtain. (told the desk upon check out...she said , "oh") You can […] hear everyone around you shower and it sounded like the pipes were going to come out of the wall. That worked better than a wake up call.
