Situated on the northeastern edge of the city, PDX is a 40-minute light rail ride away from downtown. While the airport’s Oregon Marketplace offers a full menu of shops (including a Powell’s Books), its food selection also impresses. Travelers have their pick of microbrews, German fare, and sushi, among other dishes. First opened in 1958, the airport serves 13 million travelers annually.

We were told by Hotels.com that we would be able to park at the Red Lion while we took a flight out of state. This is NOT true! When we arrived at the hotel the manager refused to uphold what we had been told with a "too bad so sad" attitude. He blamed hotels.com and us for the error. We were forced to find alternative arrangements for parking at the […] airport. Very poor service!!! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Stay elsewhere, not a typical Red Lion"
Other than being close to the airport, this Red Lion is masquerading as a Ramada Inn circa 1985. No elevator, musty smell, front desk errors, and more. Beds were comfortable and shuttle staff were friendly and helpful but that was it on the positive side.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Response by Red Lion Hotel Portland Airport Thank you very much for providing helpful feedback regarding your stay. I am glad you enjoyed the shuttle and beds, but I am sorry to hear about the difficulty you had with the front desk. We take all of our guest’s comments seriously as they assist us in providing better service. We hope you will be staying with us again so we can prove our ability to exceed your expectations.
Room was horrible, looked like it wasn cleaned prior to getting there. There were balled up dirty socks left under the sink in the bathroom, some nasty gunk on the floors, and the nightstands and desk both were uncleaned and sticky.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Very Disappointed"
I was very disappointed. This hotel was not up to the Red Lion's usual standards. When I checked into the room (room 171) there was day old coffee in the coffee pot, day old coffee grounds in the coffee pot and urine on the toilet. There was hardly any water pressure in the bathroom sink, the air conditioner/heating system barely worked and the television […] was pixelating to the point it was unwatchable. I spoke with the general manager the next day about the the coffee pot, urine stains and TV.I did not mention the water pressure or air conditioner/heating system. He offered to move me to another room or to fix the TV and make sure the room was properly cleaned. As I would not be returning to the room until late that night I opted to have him fix the TV. When I returned that night the TV still did not work properly. The next day I asked to be moved to another room. They put me in room 159 and everything in that room worked properly; good water pressure, good air conditioning/heating system and good TV. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Our room was incredibly hot and even with the AC on, it continued to pump warm air. We shut everything down and opened the windows to get the heat out. Our coffee pot also didn't work for morning coffee. We reported these issues to the woman at the front desk and she recorded the issues and said she would plan on communicating them to housekeeping and […] maintenance. We have stayed at this hotel before without any issues and I expect the same in the future. For us, it was a fluke thing this time. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"I would not stay there again"
We chose due to location and Red Lion reputation. But there was no elevator so my poor husband had to lug our very heavy luggage up & down again. I was unable to help due to my bad back. The cleanliness was not good. Immediately I could not help but notice that there were stains on the carpets in the hallways and they have not been vacuumed in quite […] some time as there is debris collecting in the corners. We arrived late so we were very tired. We could not close the curtains so we had a light shining in our window all night. I didn't take the time to notice the cleanliness of our room until I went in the restroom to brush my teeth and there was chocolate crumbs all over the counter and on the floor. So then I lifted the toilet seat just to check, and well lets just say it was definately not clean! Then I started looking around the room. There were stains on the bedspreads, dirt in the corners, the coffee maker hadn't even been rinsed. It amazes me how people try to cut corners on their job and try to pull it off, hoping nobody will notice. Someone in housekeeping isn't very appreciative for their job. Unfortunately we had booked a night upon our return as well before going home, so we had to stay another night. I met the manager upon checking out and he asked me about my stay. I addressed a bit of concern and he said he would take care of it, and compensated me some. I just think its sad because this hotel has sooo much potential. There is more, but I will stop there. "Disappointed in this stay"
I stayed here a couple weeks ago and couldn't say enough good things about it. This time however, my experience was not the same. The carpet in this room had sticky spots, the carpet tack at the bathroom door was sticking up. The bedside lamp did not have a secure connection to the outlet and kept blinking. The lamp on the desk had a loose outlet. The […] pillows last time were wonderful, 3 foam and 3 soft. This time there was only one soft one and the foam are too hard for us. So we did not get a good nights sleep. It seems as though this hotel's stay depends on what room you get. Good luck. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"tired and worn"
Furnishings were old, curtain was torn from wear, and hallway had the smell of bleach. The whole place seemed out-of-date, musty and tired. Dining was a Sixties coffeeshop and bar that was nothing special. On the plus side, the staff seemed very friendly and there was free wireless, but that was not enough to make me want to stay here again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

Hotel was old and not in good condition. It should not be rated higher than a two star hotel.Genuine Expedia guest review
The hotel was very difficult to find, the interior hallways were dingy and dirty. The hotel was supposed to be non-smoking, but my room had a strong old smoke odor. "Beware of parking lot Construction!!"
After driving 13+ hours from Philadelphia to Chicago, then flying to Portland, arriving after midnite, I was given a room at the back of the property. First thing in the morning, I was awakened by a constuction crew directly outside my window. I'm pretty upset about getting so little sleep and the manager did nothing to compensate for the desk clerk's […] ignorance, nor was I permitted a late check-out. Room must have been a "dog room." Carpet was filthy. Also, although I pre-paid for this room w/ my own credit card, they wouldn't let my husband check in w/out a major cc to cover "incidentals." "2nd time in hotel"
Its not my favorite place to stay. Besides the restaurant in the front hotel food is a long ways away. I was totally blown away when I can back to hotel after working all day and to find my room door jared in the open position. I reported this to front desk and they acted like no big deal. The hotel is right next to the airport which is nice. However, the hotel itself is dated. Old furniture, old wallpaper and the A/C is TERRIBLE! It never got cool in our room. The hotel was clean, but old feeling and looking. Staff was fine. Restaurant had absolutely no ambience, and was just blah looking and feeling, and is the only one to choose if you are without a car. "Better for less"
The front staff member was rude and unprofessional immediatly from 'hello'. I was first over charged, I was told I purchased 2 rooms. In spite of showing her my printed confirmation that apperantly doesn't 'count' and her telling me it was my problem for making the reservation, she finally credited me back the extra room. I was then given a room key […] to a room that was still dirty from the prior guests. When my husband went in the second time to tell the desk clerk we needed a clean room he did recieve a much better response. He was given a different room and a voucher for breakfast. The beds were comfortable, could use some updated pillows but we had brought our own, the bedspread smelled like it hadn't been washed in sometime, we were exhausted and just removed it. Bathroom and room were clean aside from the musty smell to the shower curtian. Restaurant service was awesome in the am. I would say, one could get much nicer quality at the airport for the same price. I have stayed at two other 3 star rated hotels there that were great. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Disappointing stay at the PDX airport"
We booked this hotel last minute and it was a poor choice for a second visit. I stayed with my 15 year old daughter and she asked why are we staying in the place. we were a few rooms in from a back door which was a revolving door of people coming and going. I am not sure what was going on a couple of rooms away but people came and went for hours the […] fist night. They were loud and the door continued to slam for hours. There was also a dog barking from time to time. Since we were close to the door people were smoking outside of this main door so there were butts everywhere and the smell of smoke made it to our room including someone smoking week at one point. We let it go because we had so much luggage from a ski trip earlier in the week we didn't want to pack up and move. I stayed here on other time in the fall and was close to the front desk which was OK. There are no breakfast plans available for this hotel. I would not stay here again and would pass on this property. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

We had a bad surprise when we arrived that management no longer allowed extended parking when you travel. "Should have read the reviews before booking this one"
I am not really a hotel snob. I can hang just about anywhere and find something nice to say about it. This hotel not so much. I booked it off the Red Lion name and that was my mistake. The staff was friendly enough, parking was convenient and free. No free breakfast which should definatley be included to perk this place up (though I am not sure I would […] have eaten anything that came from this place). The hallways smell horrible and were surprisingly HOT that is taking into consideration that it was about 45 degrees outside. Once we hit the hallways we were burning up. The rooms are old and not fancy at all. (I read a comment from the Red Lion on another site that said they just remodeled......hum, I definately could not see it at all). We immediately locked and bolted our door the moment we entered because we didn't feel safe. You can hear the airplanes overhead pretty early in the morning and hotel cleaning staff starts vacuuming around 8:30am which you can hear them doing from the first room to the last room b/c the doors and walls are thin. Seriously this place is disgusting. Portland is a beautiful city to visit, I personally would stay downtown if I were to visit again. This place was way too skanky, stay away!!!!! "Red Lion HOtel, Portland OR"

"Red Lion - Portland Airport"
Despite a recent renovation, the Red Lion still feels very old. There is a very strong smell throughout the hotel. It's difficult to place the particular odor or source. The room is very small and cramped. The TV is an older tube-based model, and smaller than I would have expected. The walls are paper-thin so you hear everyone (and they hear you). There […] is no elevator, so reaching your room may require an ascent on a metal staircase, outside, exposed to all the elements. Despite a large parking lot, there were never any available spots -- probably because Red Lion rents long-term parking to airport travelers. Despite it's close proximity to the airport, the hotel is on a one-way street that funnels you away from all the action. This makes getting around a little difficult. "Not impressed"
Overall, I was not pleased with the hotel. It smelled like smoke and the staff were not really helpful or polite. Won't recommend nor stay there again.Genuine Expedia guest review
"never again"
I will never stay in this hotel again. The most serious problem was that when we returned to our room about 9:30 PM, there was absolutely no parking available anywhere at the hotel. The reason for this was that they had booked a large foosball event which went on till 2 AM, plus they also said they sell some of their parking spaces for use as long-term […] airport parking. In other words, they are making extra money by selling the parking spaces reserved for guests to others, leaving guests with no place to park. We had to wait half an hour before they found us a parking place way on the other side of the hotel from our room, and there was a long line of other guests with the same problem. The other problems were minor by comparison, but they added up to an unpleasant experience: the desk clerk wasn't cordial, the bed wasn't level and had only one thin blanket, the whole hotel had an unpleasant smell, both in the room and the hallways, one of the bathroom light bulbs was burned out, the room was very small and cramped, and the upholstered chair was unusable due to a stain which nobody would want to sit on. "Okay if you are working at the airport"
Our bed was extremely soft and we did not sleep well at all during our stay. Our tube TV had a loud buzzing noise and it took maintenance two days to respond (I believe the call was never sent). When we called back to ask about the TV, maintenance responded 'right away' and replaced our TV with another TV that did not buzz as loud. Overall, if you are […] coming to town to work or do business close to the airport, this place will work. it's quiet and the shuttle drivers were all very considerate and accommodating. However, if you are coming to town to experience 'downtown Portland' and do not plan on renting a car, I would not recommend this hotel. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
