The Heathman was a great pick for me as I attended an event at the Snitzer...right next door. All the staff was great, going the extra mile to answer all my questions. The bed was great...hard, but not too hard...cozy. Everything was clean and neat.

I've stayed at the Heathman multiple times, and find it to be an exceptional boutique hotel. The rooms, though smaller in size, have wonderful details such as comfortable chairs, excellent coffee you can prepare in a French press, and extremely good beds you can select from a menu. I love going into their bar/lounge in the evening; it's very comfortable […] whether I'm alone or with a companion. My only caution would be to allow extra time for valet car retrieval at times that are likely to be busy for their guests. They were unable to keep their 5-10 minute commitment one Saturday morning when several guests all needed to be across town for the same meeting. Rooms were small. The decorative pillows were stuffed in the closet so that the closet was not usable. The bath room was very small. Needed repair of tub drain, and repair of TV cabinet.

We were looking forward to trying the Heathman, after reading reviews on Trip Advisor (we usually stay at the Benson, but have tried others). Well, the first thing I noticed was that one closet door wouldn't slide. Then I saw the bathroom, which, not counting the small tub, sink and toilet, was 3'X3'! Claustrophobic and really steamy after a shower […] (no fan). The room was nicely-done, as was the rest of the hotel, and we had a nice breakfast in the restaurant. Valet parking was efficient, and all the staff were friendly and informative. When I was trying to work on my work laptop to answer emails, etc., it took an agonizingly long time to load anything. I have stayed at the Heathman quite a few times, most recently in July, 2012. There is simply nothing about the hotel itself or its quality service to complain about. Higher rooms, restaurant, bar - all are among the best you will find. Service is outstanding. One warning: The Heathman is very well located in central Portland and therefore suffers in […] some lower or front rooms from both traffic noise and in particular from early morning trash-truck pickup. This is the blight of big cities everywhere, no less in beautiful Portland. This last stay my wife and I were given room 405, which is on the front corner of two busy streets and apparently the site of a symphony of trash trucks much of the night plus heavy traffic and siren noise. When I complained the next morning, staff could not have been more responsive in moving us to a higher room despite the hotel being almost full. I had previously stayed in higher rooms at the back of the hotel and had no such problem. So it would be wise to ask for a higher room and to the back of the hotel when making reservations. I like the Heathman Hotel so much it pains me to even mention the above problem, and you are not going to escape that even in the other centrally located hotels. Our room was small but had charm. We had great city views. Staff was friendly and accommodating. This hotel is centrally located so we could walk everywhere, including the Portland Rose Garden and Japanese Gardens, though this is an uphill trek.

Generally a very nice hotel and location very good. The banging and or rattling noise near window that would occur mid-afternoon and around 8:30 am was never discovered and could be of concern for others as this happened every day we were there.

Only complaint is that at the complimentary wine tasting they quickly ran out of glasses and had to turn people away--inexcusable! Also, their nightly parking rates outrageous at $29 per. I was traveling with my daughter who is 12. This trip was about her. She was looking for a sushi place with a track and then a BBQ place that lets you throw peanut shells on the floor. When I asked about these places both hotel employees tried to minimize what she wanted and not in a polite way. I get this is a nice hotel but I was traveling with a 12 year old who has the tastes of a 12 year old and I would have appreciated them being more respectful to that. The hotel is old and I am not sure if that is why it to forever it seemed to get warm water from the bathroom sinks. I like to wash my hands with warm water. Oddly, this has never been an issue I have found in cheap hotel and especially not a nice one like this. I am not sure what the issue is but that is a factor that is pretty important to me. I did not have an issue with the shower, that water was warm enough in a timely manner. At check out there was a pack of M&M's on the bill. I didn't eat it and I believe my daughter when she says she didn't either. The lady's response was 'we always take your word for it' and removed it. I was glad she removed it, but she was kind of rude and why was it on there to begin with and are they going to try to charge me $95 for a bathrobe tomorrow? It just makes me a little nervous when they can't get the small stuff right. Read more

The Heathman is pricey. The queen deluxe room was well-appointed but quite small. The bathroom was claustrophobic. The normal sized bathtub took up 50% of the square footage. I would have been uncomfortable if I'd spent more than one night there.
