"Rooms are small and loud"
We are in Winchester several time a year. Our daughter goes to SU. This is our first time staying here. People are very nice and lobby is nice. Rooms are small and the wall very thin. Although it is to be expected that a hotel under renovation cannot provide the seamless, quality stay expected, we should have been notified when reservation was made that a renovation is in progress. Main entrance was closed and directions to alternate entrance were not easy to find. "Brittany Messes Up"
Personal detail - checked in at 4:00pm on Sunday, November 25, 2012. One other couple was checking in ahead of me. Got checked into a room and then called the Front Desk to ask to speak with the person responsible for telephone communication. A young woman who identified herself as Brittany and said she had just checked me in, asked how she could help. […] I told her my wife would be calling the hotel at 4:30pm and would identify herself as calling from Budapest, Hungary and would give her my room number to be connected to - could she handle this? The young woman said she'd be happy to do it. When my wife called at 4:30pm she was put on hold for over two minutes! She finally had to hang up and send me a text message detailing what had happened. At that point, I called the Front Desk from my room. When I asked what went wrong? This hotel was better than most hotels I stayed at on a recent trip, but below par for a Hampton. The rooms and public areas were quite small and the breakfast area was far too small to accommodate the number of guests in a hotel of this size. "Not up to the Hampton Name"
My husband and I only stay at Hampton's when we are travelling either for business or personal. This Hampton in particular was not up to the same standard as other Hampton's we have visited. The dining area and guest check in was not as nice. The staff were also not dressed professionally. The room was smaller than other Hampton rooms we have stayed […] in. "Great price, but noisy!"
We LOVE Hampton Inns, BUT this one was not up to the standard! The location was great, right off I-81, and the price could not be beat. The main problem is that the hotel is old and not very soundproof. Traffic noise could be heard, although not too bad. But the conversation in the room next to us at 3:00 am was all too audible, as were the doors closing […] (they stick) up and down the hall. The rooms were smaller than the newer Hampton Inns, and the brekfast buffet was not as good. When we tried to adjust the shower head, it sprayed water over the shower curtain onto the bathroom floor. When we arrived at the hotel we were given 2 rooms just a I ordered by a very attentive receptionist. In our room with 3 adults the room had not been made up and looked as though it belonged to another client. Returning to the desk they had no idea why the room was in a shambles. If you're used to staying in Hampton Inn's, you'd find that this one in Winchester definitely needs a makeover. There were ants in our room and the carpet was wet and sticky (assuming due to the humidity?). The rooms were small and outdated. We've stayed at a lot of Hampton Inns, but this one let us down somewhat. While it was comfortable and clean, which we can say about a lot of hotels which are priced more affordably, it was definitely in need of some updating. It just seemed a bit worn and shabby compared with other Hamptons that we've visited. The breakfast on the other hand was plentiful […] and offered lots of choices. The real annoyance was the Saturday night noise from the parking lot of the hotel next door. It must be a bit of a hang-out because cars kept revving very loud engines until midnight. Thank heavens it stopped then, and we were able to get some sleep before an early morning rising. Overall, as we said, it was clean and comfortable, but not up to the Hampton Inn usual standards. Hotel was ok. Not one of the best Hamptons I've ever visited. The rooms were tiny, or at least it seemed that way with how much big, oversized furniture they squeezed into the room. With more than one person, it seems very crowded. The two big annoyances were: stink bugs in our room (they're invading this area of the country, so it wasn't a huge surprise, […] but still not appreciated) and the maid banging around early in the morning. She slammed her cart into the wall in the hallway that adjoined our room, played blaring music as she cleaned (which came through the walls), and vacuumed outside our door early on a weekend morning. If the rooms were better sound-proofed, this wouldn't have been such a problem. Overall, the hotel was just ok - but I'd likely not choose this particular one again. I expect a bit more from Hampton. greeting at hotel by staff was less than enthusiastic, very matter of fact, rushed. The room was dark and musty smelling. the bedspread, though by design lumpy, was uncomfortable to sleep under. When my husband and I checked into the hotel, we were assigned a room definetly meant for handicapped (which we were not). Overall the room was ok, however, the bed was extremely on the lumpy side and had little to no support. I woke each morning with a back ache. Found a candy wrapper that had fallen behind the one night stand from a previous occupant, […] so housekeeping must not check too well for trash items. The room was tiny! The small size wasn't helped by the fact that they put a lot of huge furniture in there. Too much furniture, not enough walking space. One of the towels was a little dirty, looked like it had been refolded after it had been used, and the carpet felt dirty on bare feet, although looked clean.
