The hotel is a little run down..we entered are room and immediately found the power strip between the beds out and exposed for are kids to play with. Also, the lightbulbs were burned out. Maintenence was quick and changed them right away...and was very friendly. Later, after we returned from dinner, I called the front desk to request more towles,,as […] there were 4 of us in the room...no one ever answered. Finely, my husband had to drive to the desk and request them & extra blankets. Well, we wondered if they would ever show up...this was about 7:30-7:45pm. At 9pm, housekeeping delivered them! At first it looked like a nice hotel, especially when you enter the lobby and see the restaurant area/bar. It's very nice and looks elogant. So we arrive and they try to upsell us to the lakeside view and we persuade them to hook it up for free. You know those old single story motels that you park in front of and go into your room? Yup, that's the Red Lion. Check-in process was draining! There is only 1 staff working the front desk around 8:30pm on 2/1/13 when we arrived. I booked this room mainly because it advertised complimentary full American breakfast vs other hotel with just continental breakfast. Well the front desk staff told me the because I booked through a 3rd party, the breakfast deal will […] not be included. I asked him to look at what was advertised on Expedia... He printed out the decsription and it written " complimentary breakfast." But he still argued... I asked him to call his manager but the manager was not available on site or via telephone. After much insistence on my part, he reluctantly issued the breakfast coupons. The ordeal was not necessary if the staff was operate with "customer first" motto. We had to find a place to stay while we were having work done on our home. The location was great, since it was 5 minutes from my office. It's an older motel, but relatively well kept. This hotel has been around for many years, but they are renovating the premises and improving the services they provide. Very comfortable bed - The only downside is the noise from the trains that roll thru 2 or 3 times during the night. The property is beautiful and the front desk staff very helpful. Too few staff members to efficiently prepare for coffee or other food services. An AA organization monopolized the hotel with too many cigarettes. The trains made a considerable amount of noise at night.

This hotel is an older hotel that has changed owners a couple of times. It is however, in super condition and currently undergoing even more upgrades. The former owners operated under the Radisson name for 20 or so years. They did a complete remodel in a Spanish-Moroccon style and did an excellent job. The 17 acre site is absolutely immaculately gardened […] with lots of fountains, a large large lake, and quiet, shadowy courtyards well-appointed with tables and umbrellas, a great place to hang even on a hot day. Our room (which was Hotwired) had two sleep number beds and opened onto a peaceful courtyard. The room was esthetically pleasing, new paint, clean carpet etc. Wireless worked well. The staff was exceptionally responsive and friendly. I think I heard a train whistle once, in the distance; not a problem. When I checked in, I asked for two things: a quiet room and two beds; impressively, they already had me booked into exactly that even though I had Hotwired the room. One note: this hotel does occasional shows with big name stars (Sarah McLaughlin, Shawn Colvin, Johnny Laing, etc). I'd check on that if sleep is your primary concern. Overall though, don't sell this facility short--it is a class act and a great bargain, near to Downtown, Cal Expo, and the Arden Mall. If you value natural esthetics, cleanliness, comfort, and quiet, this is a great choice. And there are geese! Read more

Run-down rooms, shower nozzle fell off, in-house phone did not work. I do not think it is fair of Expedia to classify this as a 3 star hotel. The Doubletree Hilton is what I usually reserve for not too much more $$$ and the difference is enormous, yet Expedia has graded them equally, which is misleading to travelers using their site.

I booked 2 rooms through the Expedia discounted unnamed hotel booking. Got 2 double beds in each room with rooms next to one another. There was NO construction during our stay. I can't comment on the wifi, room service, restaurant, bar, pool, lake or surrounding views bc we didn't use or look for those. We were just exhausted guests looking for clean […] rooms and a good night's sleep--which we got. Would happily stay here again. Pros: -parking right outside our rooms--a typical one-story layout (so no rolling/dragging your suitcase around staircases, elevators, long hallways; can easily run out to your car to grab something, no dealing with neighbors above or below you, etc) -comfortable beds: mattresses can be adjusted to preferred level of firmness -clean -earthy neutral colors for interior decor -free cable tv -good AC, a must-have for hot Sacramento summer's -fairly-sized rooms and bathrooms--not too small Cons (these didn't bother us too much) -an older sort of hotel -located close to train tracks (didnt' bother us: we either slept through any trains or perhaps our rooms wasn't close to any actual tracks) -drain in the tub seemed slightly clogged--was sloshing around in 3 inches of water while showering. -Window had a view of parking lot and other rooms so didn't feel comfortable leaving drapes open--wish the lighting was better (brighter in the bedroom, adjustable for dimness in the bathroom). The room wasn't bad, plenty of clean linens/towels. Really nice view out of the window. The staff wasn't very accommodating or friendly. The hotel has a bar/club and people were wandering all night. Overall a decent hotel, nice view. Would recommend if noise is not an issue.

I chose this hotel because it had a restaurant , longe, and pool. There were other hotels closer to our destination but I liked these features. When we checked in, the pool and spa were closed for maintenance, the restaurant wasn't open and the lounge opened in a couple of hours. I've stayed at this property many times over the years. It is a place known for outdoor concerts and trendy social events. It is built around an artificial lake and has rooms spread out in single-story bungalow-type buildings. I booked a room last Sat. 6/18 in connection with a social function. The weekend was the first with usual Sacramento hot weather. […] When I checked in, I was informed that there was no AC, and given the option to cancel or get a 25% rebate. There was little choice at that point. Temperature in the room was 91 degrees at 5 PM. It was only down to 85 at midnight. . The outage was throughout the hotel, and so one could not move to a cool room. The most disturbing thing was that the management seemed to have no plan for dealing with the AC breakdown. No one was on the way to fix it. There was no emergency plan - like fans - to at least mitigate the stifling termeratures. Unless I see some major change in approach, I will not stay at this property again. Read more
