We have included all charges provided to us by this hotel. However, charges can vary, for example, based on length of stay or the room you book.
Kaanapali is a prime vantage point for viewing humpback whales, which swim by December to May. The town’s whaling history is displayed at Whaler’s Village, a shopping complex and museum. Visitors also can experience the area’s farming past by riding the Sugar Cane Train, a restored steam locomotive. Snorkelers and divers can enjoy the coral reefs and fish that thrive in nearby Black Rock Beach.

I didn't get what I paid for. The room was like a motel and not like a resort.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Response by Royal Lahaina Resort We're sorry to hear this. We always try to deliver on every promise made to our guests; and make right, any situation that is unsatisfactory. We're hoping to have the opportunity to resolve this with the guest. Mahalo for letting us know!

"NEVER AGAIN"
We traveled to the Royal Lahaina for our honeymoon and we were very disapointed. We were told we would have a garden view when we booked our package and probably be upgraded to a view. When we checked in- the room we were assigned to had a noisy view of the ac unit for the hotel. Also be prepared for the hotel to charge you 350.00 as a hold for expenses […] as if their towels are worth 350.00. You also have to pay 10.00 a day for parking and wifi is costly they charge you per day.The front desk staff were horrible and actually told my husband to be quiet and calm down when we did not get the room we booked! We asked to talk to a manager and the front desk help refused we left messages for 2 days and were told the manager would call us and never did finally my husband went to the lobby and waited for a manager. She treated us well and told us that she never received the messages. She did move us to a room with a view. The hotel nickels and dimes you and most of the customers we talked to were unhappy. The food stinks and both the food and drinks were way overpriced. You have to rent chairs for the beach and fight over the few chairs by the pool. If you want shade that will be 35.00 a day for a poolchair with an umbrella. We walked to nearby properties and were amazed at the difference in cleanliness and amenities. My advice pay a little more for a better property because in the end you will pay more with all the extra charges that the Royal Lahaina charges you. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Response by Royal Lahaina Resort We are sorry to hear that we did not meet the expectations of these guests, as we take great pride in offering value and assisting our guests to make the most of their Hawaiian vacation. The only mandatory fees the Royal Lahaina Resort charges are room and tax, all other fees are based upon guest use. The Royal Lahaina Resort does charge $10 per day for self-parking, and can advise that all hotels in the Kaanapali Resort charge for parking. You will find our parking charge to be lower than most. Also, we are pleased to advise that we do not have a mandatory resort fee like many other resorts in the area. Our Honeymoon couple's amenity currently is a complimentary 5x7 photograph taken by a professional photographer on our resort grounds, rather than an upgrade based upon availability as it appears these guests were advised. At check-in we do process a hold of $50 per day to enable guests to freely charge any resort purchases to their room account. Mahalo.
"Not what I expected!"
The original room I booked (a cottage that was supposed to have a view but didnt) was awful!!! But if course I was able to upgrade for $50 per night to a room in the tower thatosy overlooked the ocean but was on the side where the luau took place every night. Honestly after all the extra charges we should have stayed at a higher priced resort and got […] more of a pool and better service. I guess we will know next time. Response by Royal Lahaina Resort Aloha! We’re sorry that you did not find the Royal Lahaina Resort up to your expectations. Many of our guests enjoy staying in the Garden Cottage Rooms which are located throughout our tropical grounds, and just steps away from the beach. Although your original booking was for a Garden Cottage Room, we understand that you preferred a room with the view of the Ocean, and we are glad that you were able to enjoy the view from your beautiful Deluxe Ocean View Room in the Lahaina Kai Tower. While many resorts in the area have higher rates and automatic resort fees, our guests usually find great value and convenience in our à la carte price options and lower room rates. We also take pride in providing quality service with a genuine aloha spirit and family-like hospitality, which we were sorry to hear, and apologize that it was not your experience. We thank you for sharing, and hope you get a chance to enjoy another Maui Vacation. Mahalo nui.

The room that we had was in the old part of the hotel and the highest room rent that we paid in the13 days of our visit in four other top rated hotels. The bathroom vents need cleaning. The new part of the hotel was beautifull, but could not get a room There was some confusion in the number of people that was in our party and was for only one night. "Royal Lahaina - Not recommended"
This hotel is in dire need of a complete facelift/remodel. The staff was pretty friendly and courteous but the hotel, rooms and facilities are old and shabby. The room was tidy but did not seem clean at all. The grounds are not maintained nicely although the pool area was quite nice and beach access was excellent. The breakfast buffet was pretty good […] value. I did not enjoy my stay here and would not recommend this hotel. For the price, there are far better options in the area. "The Royal Lahaina Resort- terrible cottages"
My husband and I stayed at one of their cottages and we could not believe our eyes when we walked in. This cottage was so old and dirty, it was absolutely disgusting. For the price we paid on this cottage, we should have gotten a lot better. We stayed at a lot of hotels and this one was by far the worst and would never return to again. If you ever book […] here, do not stay at the cottages. We do not know anythng about the hotel rooms, but the cottage was horrible, and not at all worth the money. "Journey to the dark side of Maui"
Maybe I'm being a bit harsh, but the main problem here is taste and attention to detail. Service was among the worst I've experienced in the restaurant. There is some ridiculous voucher system they've created to seat you at breakfast. Not because it's prepaid, but because they need that to stay organized. And that didn't work either. I felt like the […] staff need to be highly uneducated to work there. No other hotel I visited had service that made me this frustrated. As for the entrance, I felt like I just entered the cheapest hotel on earth with a poorly designed activity center greeting me. Ok, not greeting me. Shouting at me with signs designed by a fourth grader in 1982. THe whole experience insulted my intelligence. On the positive side. The rooms are quite nice. I read they spent $37 million on upgrades. You could see that in the rooms. I guess it goes to show you that $37 million is not nearly enough. They'll probably need another $37 million to make the common areas compete. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Not impressed"
Poor front desk service. Room phones don't work properly. Called phone service and they told me I could not read the instructions, and did not fix the phone. There is no hotel internet connection. Internet server charges $10/day and it is cumbersome to get on-line. Breakfast sitting system very inefficient. The breakfast buffet was good but service […] people were poorly trained and did not smile at all. Tense. To have the Breakfast buffet first you get in line to sign up, they move you to the second line to wait to be escorted to the table ?!! They have so much junk, a huge jewelry store/nothing special taking up 1/3 of the Lobby, desks, vendors tables, displays, Luggage carts all on the Lobby - there is no place to sit and wait for 'your ride'. And, the gift shop for water and snacks is out on a separate building !! Figure. It seems like the hotel is having either Financial problems or extremely poor Management. The location is great it takes some work to get it up to 'tourist level'. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Response by Royal Lahaina Resort Thank you for the feedback on your visit. We are sorry to learn that our resort did not meet up to your expectations. The management and associates of the Royal Lahaina take pride in sharing the Aloha Spirit and assisting our guests to make the most of their Hawaiian vacation. As noted in your review high-speed internet service is available for $9.95 per day. Each guestroom in our Lahaina Kai Tower is equipped with wi-fi and hard-wire internet service. Cottage rooms and public areas are equipped with wi-fi only. For guests not traveling with computers we offer complimentary internet service in our Guest Relations Office. At our primary breakfast restaurant guests are greeted by our hostesses and then escorted to the first available table. As with most restaurants, when busy, there may be a short wait to be seated. Our Dinner Reservations Concierge, an Activity Concierge Desk, the Pikake Boutique jewelry store, and two separate guest seating areas are located in our open-air lobby. Our Royal Trading Company store is located in the shopping and office arcade directly across from our lobby (approx. 100 feet). Besides normal sundry items, this store features specialty apparel and one of the largest wine selections available at any hotel on Maui. Additional seating areas for guests are also available outside of this store. Our resort is a family owned business which our owners have run successfully since 1982. We are also proud to note that an independent survey of Hawaii employees by Hawaii Business magazine has named the Royal Lahaina Resort one of the 15 Best Places To Work (Large Companies) in the entire state of Hawaii each of the past three years. Mahalo.
"Can't wait to go back and WOULD NEVER STAY ANYWHERE BUT ROYAL LAHIANA!!!!"
This trip was the best. The Resort was truely an A+++. Normally for birthdays and anniversary's when mentioned you get a bottle of wine. But WOW WOW WOW what a treat we were blessed with a free room upgrade deluxe ocean view room. Truly opened my eyes every morning and WITHOUT moving my head could see and hear the ocean. The staff EACH AND EVERYONE […] was polite, kind and so helpful. Upon every return we were welcomed back by the kindess gentelman that would each time say" WELCOME HOME". The grounds were so very well maintained. The restaurant staff, bar staff, pool bartenders, the guys how would bring around the car from Valet, the People behind the desk made us feel just like we were at home.... Look no further... this place is ALL anyone could every need! All I can say is STOP HERE LOOK NO FURTHER!!!!! YOU WONT BE DISSAPPOINTED.... Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

The cottages are old and outdated, especially the bathroom. The air conditioner is loud so I can't keep it on in the room while sleeping. The beds are so small that two adults will not be comfortable sharing the bed. In short, everything needs to be updated and replaced, including the carpet, sinks, etc.Genuine Expedia guest review

"The Royal Lahaina Resort- Maui"
This is a resort to be avoided. After a few days at the Sheraton nearby it was a shock to discover such a run down resor next door. Moreover, we received no prior warning that it would look like a building site. We checked out after 1 night and the unhelpful front desk staff attempted to charge us a 3 night penalty.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
I have been staying at this hotel 2 times before, but I am so disapointed, the rooms are so badly maintained and dirty, big stains on the floor, the balcony are so dirty, dust all over the room, and the bathroom disguiting, and holes and old stains on the sheets. And we had to change room, cause our room smelled of cigaretsmoke. It is not worth the […] price anymore, and the service is not the same anymore, they are so rude at frontdesk..
