"Close.. but no cigar.."
I actually thought the hotel was kinda cool. I felt like I had taken a time warp into the 70's! The hotel was at the edge of the new downtown area, which was convenient. The staff was awesome. "A good place just south of downtown Chattanooga"
The Chattanooga Choo Choo is an interesting experience. Located in the old Southern Railway train station, the lobby is gigantic and elegant--the old station waiting room. Most of the hotel rooms are in modern buildings beyond the station platforms, while a few of the rooms are actually in old railroad cars parked at the platform. "good but not great"
The staff at the hotel was wonderful. The hot tub by the pool was about 70 degrees and the pool water was about 55 degrees. Such a lovely and historic place, and we got such a deal on the room. It felt like we were stealing it at such a low price (yay holiday sale)! I would gladly tell anyone to stay here if visiting Chattanooga. The free shuttle is directly across the street from the hotel with trips back and forth downtown and also across the river every few minutes. Staff […] is great, too! Our rooms were in Building #3. Friday night was very loud in the parking lot and a party somewhere on the groundsThere were a lot of the loud music in the cars...a lots bass thomp-thomp-thomp. "stay for the novelty not the quality"
It was my 2nd stay at the Choo Choo but it will be the last. Something people need to understand about the Choo Choo is that although the loby and resturant are grand remnants of the train station the hotel rooms themselves are simply hotel rooms. The complex consists of 3 concrete hotel buildings, very average, no different than any you would find […] along the interstate. There are certain amenities that are absent - no pay-per-view movies, the hotel said that since the cable has HBO it isn't needed. There is no microwave or refridge. though the fridge can be ordered. The hallways had a musty smell though the room itself was fine. The ice machines were not working on 2 floors when I was there during a heat wave. The pool at building #3 is beautiful. The grounds are beautiful. I remember being disappointed my first stay but felt I was perhaps being too harsh - I wasn't. Go to Chattanooga, go see the lobby of the Choo Choo but stay somewhere else. We were in building 3 which seemed a little off the beaten path and a little neglected on the outside but the room was comfortable and clean. "Overdue for closure"
Unfortunately a well worn hotel, who's room rates don't reflect the quality obtained. When the ceiling air conditioning unit in the hallway outside my room constantly leaks and is covered in rust , I was surprised it didn't drop out. Railroad coaches as sleeping units seem unique, but those coaches externally look as though only the paint keeps them […] together. Overall I had a very good experience. The rooms are in need of an update but they're nice enough. Spacious and clean with balconies.
