Even though I'm from Iowa and visit Des Moines often, I was unaware that Prairie Meadows had a connected hotel. I wasn't really sure what to expect, but... as soon as I walked into the entryway, I was stunned! It has fabulous appeal, good service, and wonderful rooms. Very spacious and clearly up-to-date. Surprised to find an iHome alarm clock and a Keurig machine! Shower was nice and open as well. No complaints about this hotel at all! When your traveling with a 12 yo and a 14 yo and the first thing out of the front desk staff when your checking in is that your children must be accompanied by an adult after 2pm ANYWHERE in the hotel..... I thought what kind of place am I checking in to? This was not indicated in the description for this hotel on Hotels.com. If you're wondering why […] I chose to stay at a racetrack hotel with my family, it was close to where we needed to be and, generally, the hotel is separated from the casino by quite a distance. We loved the hotel - we visited the Casino but were disappointed in the smok filled atmosphere - the Casino has a non-smoking area but it is probably only 10 % of the Casino floor and one has to walk thru the smoking area to get to the non-smoking area.

Nice rooms - really like them. Except for the forever walk to and from the casino. Wow! It's a long one - especially if your room is at the end of the lonnnnnngggg hall ! Advice ladies: do not wear high heels unless they are extremely comfortable. I'm tellin' ya ~ it's one looonnng walk!

This is a fairly new hotel and has all of the modern conveniences in the room except for a Microwave. The Coffee Pot is a Kuerig, with a few coffee options, or you could bring your own favorites. How many hotels provide that? The room is spacious, and it was quiet even though it was totally booked the night we stayed. There is a quiet little lounge […] downstairs to share coffee, drinks and conversation. Starbucks is also available in the same area in the morning, as well as a nice little cafe with a well rounded menu , just downstairs. This hotel is connected to the Prairie Meadows Casino and race track, as well as several eating venues; a steakhouse, buffet, restaurant and a fast food area. This hotel is in Altoona which is just a short drive to downtown Des Moines, and just off of Interstate 80. Read more

had the jr suite, bathroom door had a hinky design, not good for privacy. Has very hard water, hotel could use softener system. Nice location, staff very friendly, especially since they were sold out. Shuttle service is handy

The hotel is great. I had a group of 30 there for the weekend and all had clean, quiet rooms. I stayed again a week later and had the same experience. The only drawback is the attitude of the desk clerks. I haven't seen a smile or genuine desire to help at any time. Too bad, it would be a premier stop if they can do some customer service training.

While the room was just as nice as the pictures indicated it would be I was most impressed with the cleanliness of the bathrooms. The showers were the cleanest showers I have ever encountered at a hotel.
