This place had bad reviews before I went so I was expecting the worse. Once I arrived the clerks where very friendly and helpful. Rooms where very clean. THE DOORS AND DOOR LOCKS TO ROOMS NEED TO BE REPLACED. I was very uncomfortable not knowing if the lock on the door was properly set and could not be opened from the out side. The lock on the balcony door of my room on the second floor was an interior door lock. this means that it could be opened from the outside with a stylus. The hotel was a little dated but they were in the middle of renovations(did not interfere..noise etc. at all). The staff was very friendly and gave us good advice on local favorite hidden places to visit. The location was great, a few steps from the beach and all rooms had balconies that were beach side. Overall this room was not bad. We were on the beach and there were a lot of activities that you could sign up for there. I would have liked the locks a little more secure. I also found what they provided in the room to be "bare bones". We only received 4 towels. I would expect this in a European hotel but not in the United States. We only got a couple […] of soaps, but no washrags or hand towels. I brought my own coffee pot...thank goodness because there was not one in the room. They did have an iron and board and a hair dryer. One of the things that I really missed was ice. "Don't go to the Reef"
When we checked in at the Reef we were very disappointed in the rooms. They claimed that the rooms were just remodeled but the ceilling had paint peeling, the tv cabinet was falling apart and the refrigerator was not clean. We went back to the front desk and told them how bad the room was and the clerk told us about another property that they owned […] which was next door. "Perfect for beach bums :)"
This hotel was perfect for waking up and laying on the beach. The only thing missing from our room was a kitchen. If we'd had a kitchen we would have never gone anywhere other than the beach and our room. It was such a good price and right on the beach, that we didn't care how nice the room was. Our room was clean, the door locked, the air conditioner […] drowned out outside noise. We got fresh towels and housekeeping cleaned the sand from the tile. This is no Hilton hotel, but if your goal is to get a tan and enjoy the gulf, then it is perfectly fine. The pool was also VERY clean. Parking really wasn't an issue either- on the holiday week we were there we always had a spot in front of the hotel. The other reviews for this hotel were very misleading. It isn't the nicest thing, but the crappy furniture is definitely a sacrifice I was willing to make to have a cheap beachfront room. My real complaint was how busy and packed Panama city was in general. Next time I will get a room with a kitchen so we don't ever need to go out anywhere! If you're not a diva and are going to the beach for the sake of the beach, this room is fine! Hotel is what you can expect for the price. Needs paint, bathroom updates, new elevator, and more parking! Parking is horrible...everyone eating at Sharkeys next door parks in the hotels parking lot, which makes the guests park 1 block away. "Not my favorite hotel"
Positives: The staff was exceptionally nice. The location was amazing. All rooms have a great view of the ocean as the hotel sits right on the ocean. Great beach access. Right next door to Sharky's Tiki Bar which offers wonderful food and drinks. Very inexpensive in comparison with other hotels. Negatives: Beds are hard as a rock. Absolutely no amenities […] other than a hair dryer and TV. No coffee maker, no microwave, no refrigerator, no internet, nothing! The room looked like it had been beaten to heck and back with paint missing from some of the walls, carpets were worn and stained, doors had large cracks between the door and the door pane. Stayed three nights and the room was only cleaned once during our stay. Stairwell leaked and smell of urine. Parking was basically impossible. Basically if all you need is a place to lay your head at night and are not concerned with having a clean room, go for it. We loved the location and the view!!! It was amazing!! The pool was great and the service was superb! The room is a totally different story. The bathroom seemed ok until we went to shower. The shower would not drain, then the toliet would run and we would have to stop it. The carpet was old and very, very dirty. "Open to the beach"
The only thing I enjoyed about this hotel is that my family and I only had to stay one night. There was not coffee maker in the room and I had to request toilet paper for the bathroom because there was none. There was an ironing board, but no iron. We had made a reservation for a room with a refrig/micro and when I inquired about it, the front desk […] worker said that I could get a refund from the site that book my reservation and that they had nothing to do with that. The hotel was really worn down and you could hear conversations from the next room. They do not have enough parking spaces to accommodate the guest and offer parking across the street from the restaurant next door. Not good when you have luggage to carry. We will definitely not be staying here if we return to Panama City Beach. We checked in, went to our room, changed clothes and went to the beach. My husband went in a couple of hours later to use the restroom and discovered the toilet wouldn't work. He tried to call the front desk and the phone didn't work. He had to go find somebody to report it to and when the maintenance person came, it was determined that the water supply […] to the toilet had been turned off because it couldn't be fixed right away. We were moved to another room which required us to move everything to another floor with no help from the staff. All of this took about 2 hours. Went here for Spring Break and it was a great location! Next to Sharky's was really convenient for students or anyone looking to have a good time at night and the Bloody Mary's are AMAZING and if you order a margarita or things like that you get a souvenir cup! I thought the rooms were exactly what we paid for and its nice that they all have a balcony […] and are looking at the ocean. We never had a problem finding a parking spot and the staff was really polite you just have to be polite to them (obviously). But I would recommend this hotel more for Students or anyone looking for an alright place to stay and also a good time.
