"Updated and clean but far from sound proof"

The reasons why I did not rate this hotel with five stars is because of the following: food at the restaurants are not good. However, I found various local gems in the surrounding towns! "Long Way to Go For A Bachelor Party But Worth it!"
It was a friend's bachelor party for his second and hopefully last marriage. And someone suggested we stay at the Mt. Airy Resort and Casino and do an alternative day of white water rafting in Jim Thorpe, PA. It's a two hour drive from the Philadelphia area to Mt. We had dinner on Friday at Red Steakhouse which was better than we thought it would be. Of course, Mt. Airy is a casino that allows smoking so unless you're a gambler (and half of us weren't) you'll need to find other distractions up there. My room had a beautiful view of the lake out front. Room service, valets and bellmen were very prompt and courteous. And there's a surprisingly good Hibachi/sushi restaurant just down the road called, "Desaki." While the Saturday room rate was significantly higher than the Friday rate, using the free Rewards night helped take the sting out! If you're a skier or like to see the Fall colors...or like to white water raft, the Mt. Airy Resort and Casino isn't a bad East coast distraction from Atlantic City! "Nothing But a Room"
I wish I knew they would be packed on Labor Day. They had an event outside that brought them in. Good for them but bad for a couple that wanted a quiet get-a-way. They had 3 signs stating that Valet parking is full however it looked like it also might be the front entrance. A guy stopped me and said, "Valet parking is full." No kidding! I asked where […] do I check in and he said right here. So, why couldn't he have asked, "checking into the hotel" instead? There's only one bar during the day and that's in the middle of the casino. Every seat taken. Once dinner hour begins there are bars in their 2 more upscale restaurants. But, good luck getting a dinner there. We considered leaving the complex out into the woods of the Poconos to find a restaurant but wound up opting for their buffet. As far as buffets go, it was excellent. The huge selection of cold salads where great. The desert lady was a treat. The front desk was pleasing and professional. I'm rather surprised the meeter-greeter at the restaurant didn't offer any suggestions other than "you're not getting in here until 9:30." On 3 different occasions I asked a question of a security person only to encounter complete morons.
