Downtown DC is awash with culture. The Smithsonian Institution museum complex flanks the National Mall. The Washington Monument bisects the Mall, just south of the White House. Federal agency headquarters house bureaucrats of varying stripes. Moneyed and powerful lobbyists help create (and quash) laws from K Street. Chinatown and the Washington Convention Center lie east of downtown.

We went on Spring Break with our 2 kids and wanted a separate bedroom. The layout of the room is great with a separate bedroom, nice bathroom, full kitchen and ample sized living room. The area is a little suspect in that all the buildings surrounding the hotel are condemned, which seems to contribute to mouse problem, and there is a Marriott being […] built across street (noise from 5am to 8 pm). The noise was an issue especially since they decided to wax the floors of the hotel at 2:30 am- they stopped after we complained. The pullout couch had dirty sheets and mouse droppings in it when we arrived and the pull out couch is very lumpy. The bedroom was comfortable and they had direct tv. "Good for family but has issues"
We booked this place because we have 2 kids and like a separate bedroom and kitchen. Positives: Spacious, and good layout. Close to metro Has direct tv Good shower Negatives: A Marriott is right across street and there is constant construction noise. The surrounding buildings are abandoned and boarded up. Little sketchy. The pull out sofa has the […] lumpiest mattress and was not clean when we checked in. Decent family place but not at all luxurious. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Could be a great place, but...."
This hotel could be a great place to stay. However the first thing we noticed was a strange smell, as if a smell was trying to be covered up by an overly strong but equally disagreeable smell. The smell lingered over the 3 days we were there. The kitchen in the room is wonderful and the suite is very roomy and great for families. However, the pull out […] sofa was horrible. I have a kid that can sleep anywhere and this "bed" even hurt his back. I'm sure at one time it was fine. However the sofa is older and just needs to be replaced. I think the room must have been sprayed for pests right before our check-in. The smell was awful and stayed on our clothes and suitcase even when unpacking at home. As a final note, the hotel is across from a lot of construction. If you're visit includes sleeping in, pass on this hotel until after construction is completed across the street. The queen bed was comfortable and the shower was nice. Luckily we were up early each day and the noise wasn't that big of a problem. If I'd been on a fun couple get-away, I would have really hated the noise. The location is great for walking. If you've found a good rate, I'm sure it's to compensate for the noise. I only hope that smell isn't typical. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
I have to say I was apprehensive driving up to the hotel due to vacant buildings next door & construction..but as we walked around we learned that area will be renovated. We found it pretty centrally located and walked every where from the hotel. We enjoyed our stay at the ELDON SUITES.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice hotel, but worst pull-out sofabed ever!"
The hotel is very nice, however there are 2 significant drawbacks: It's right across from a major construction site where it appears that workers work through the whole night (although they weren't terribly noisy when we were there) and the pullout sofa is the most uncomfortable bed I've ever slept in. If you don't need to use the sofabed, I'd recommend […] the hotel. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Close To Verizon Center"
My two girlfriends and I stayed here because it was close to the Verizon Center. We went and saw Madonna Monday night the staff were great helped out. The hotel was close to where we were going and there was a CVS and local sub shop close. The only bad thing was at 2:30am when we were ready for bed the pull out bed was broke. All of us were dead tired […] and just wanted to get some sleep. My friend slept of the couch and it was not comfortable for her. Other then that it was a nice stay thanks! "Great location, but cheap faux luxury"
Great location, but really cheap room fixtures. The Sofa Bed is a joke -- as old and uncomfortable as the one you remember from gramma's house. Even putting two small kids on it was out of the question. They slept on the mattress from the couch, covered with a foam pad the staff provides to take care of the sofa bed issue (They said they get constant […] complaints, but the owners will not address it!). Oh, and WiFi? It's a joke, impossible to use, and if we weren't able to hop onto a nearby unsecured signal from a nearby building, we would have left. Great location though! "Great hotel, has great potential, sketchy area"
Hotel itself was lovely. Very Comfortable and spacey- would love to have a bar or restaurant or even some afternoon / evening resources. For the value, highly worth it-beautifully and freshly decorated- but, rough area directly around it. During the day no biggie, but we would've loved to walk more at evening.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Don't expect much from the staff"
The hotel was nice. The floors were cold. The staff was not knowledgeable in activities in the DC area. Even at one time the woman at the front desk said are you asking me for my recommendation? Duh why did I call her. The toilet clogged and my husband being Mr. fix it called the front desk and asked them for a plunger. The man told my husband he was […] alone at the front desk could he come down and get it. Really!!!!! We should walk through the hotel with a plunger. When he (guy at the front desk) bought it upstairs, my husband fixed the toilet himself. Not alot of comfortable seating. Only a love seat in the room and it was very very uncomforatble. The rest was chairs and stools. No lounging. Needed a tv in the bedroom. On the upside, the shower head was AMAZING. All in all I may stay here again if the rate was lower than what I paid. "Not "Luxury""
Perfect for extending stays, but without any comforts of a luxury hotel. Not necessarily disppointing, just personal expectations high when it comes to the word "luxury". Rating boiled down to customer service, valet was hand key to person behind desk, no doorman, no bag handler, etc.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Seen better, seen worse"
We stayed for 3 nights, our first night we were assigned to a basement room. Not impressed. My cell phone turned itself off with in a minute of being in the room. We had no cell phone service. They did allow us long distance calls at no charge when we complained about that. The "patio doors" stepped out into an area about 3'x5 with 8ft high walls, it […] was very dirty. Basement room shower poor. They did move us to a 2nd floor room for the next 2 nights. The listed Internet service was ok if only one person wanted to connect. It didn't allow for 2 users in the room to connect at the same time. Staff was accommodating Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Great value in DC but very noisy."
The hotel has more of an apartment or condo feel rather than a hotel. The suites was certainly more than adequate including a comfortable bed. I consider that I obtained good value here. However, there were two issues. First, construction is ongoing across the street on a large new hotel for a major chain, and the noise began as early as 6 AM and did […] not stop until after 7:30 PM; this was annoying as the sound readily penetrated through the windows. The second is the somewhat sketchy nature of the neighborhood. The two adjacent buildings are apparently abandoned and scheduled for demolition. As I walked past these in the late evening prior to check-in, there were several people, possibly homeless, who were congregating in front of the buildings and whom I had to manuever around to get to the Eldon. "Scented Sheets Offensive"
While this hotel is very convenient to the Washington Convention Center, it lacks certain amenities, such as room service. Also, they scented the sheets and, as I am sensitive to perfumes, I found it offensive. The elevator was scented too. Finally, there needs to be stronger lighting in the bathroom.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Eldon Suites - no internet!"
I recently stayed at the Eldon Luxury Suites, and I liked everything about the place except the internet connections, which is a BIG exception for business travelers! The advertising says there is wireless internet in all the rooms, but when you get there they tell you it's only available through the ethernet. However, even that doesn't work, so you […] have to go to the lobby whenever you want to get online. Even in the lobby, the connection on the wireless is sporadic -- it kept kicking me off right in the middle of important emails. The staff kept apologizing and saying they would look into it, but nothing ever changed the whole week I was there. A major drawback in an otherwise nice hotel. "Decent Hotel"
The hotel interior was very nice but the hotel does not offer a restaurant or a bar, and they charge for parking which is not advertised on the offer. "Worst hide a bed couch ever!!!"
The hotel is extremely convenient to the convention center and this is why we chose this hotel. HOWEVER, we brought along our 9 year old son and so there were three of us and so we had to utilize the hid a bed couch. It was sooooo horrible we couldn't make our son sleep on it and so my husband and I did. I am not exaggerating when I say you could literally […] feel every spring in the mattress. We have never slept on a worse mattress. Expectations are low for a hide a bed mattress, but this was so bad I would not even use it as a bed for our dog. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"not bad, not great"
Not bad, not great. Does some weird stuff --- like there were tip envelopes and a tip jar at breakfast. Not weird in itself, except that you serve yourself and are expected to clean your table when done, so they want tips for keeping the breakfast bar stocked. Inside of rooms is okay, but feels a little cheap at times, with randomly placed plastic covered […] screwed into the wood plank walls. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Interesting"
I hope that the hotel doesn't get a bad reputation after the last weekend (7/29/11 thru 7/31/11). I knew that it would be extremely noisy because this is where alot of the fraternity members were staying. The room was very nice. I was surprised that it had an actual oven in it. I did put the kitchen to use. There was plenty of closet space. I would […] suggest that they put hooks in the bath so that you can hang your towels on them. Also the rack that held the towels needed to be tighten. Housekeeping just needed to clean a little more thouroghly. I found cereal in the chair in the living room. When they cleaned my room they only left one wash cloth and two of us was staying in the room. As far as the parking, they should let you know that it is first come first serve and that it is a chance that you have to find other options. I am not certain if I would stay here again because it is a little pricy and nothing extra is being included. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Luxury describes the room, but not the experience."
I recently stayed for 2 nights in the Independence Suite. The room itself is well executed: marble everywhere, full kitchen, comfy bed, flat screen TV, etc. If this were my apartment, I would never leave. However, the "luxury" pretty much ends there. I don't think the management understands that luxury is more than just how the place is built. It's […] a good thing I prefer to park my own car, bring in my bags, take everything up to my room, and book my own scenic bus tour--all things the hotel claims it does--none of it ever happened. I asked about the Open Bus Tour company linked to the Eldon website. The person at the desk knew nothing about it, only offering me the local map. I found the desk staff to be void of emotion, concern, or urgency. it took two calls to the front desk to have the hot water checked in my suite. 35 minutes later a maintenance worker showed up and nicely helped me. I must say that the housekeeping and maintenance staff were pleasant, friendly, and courteous, starting conversations in the elevator and lobby. Although the location is good, the surrounding neighborhood is a bit run down with loud construction starting early in the AM. Two places you must go if you stay here: First Cup Cafe around the corner on 9th and M (avoid the $10.00 continental breakfast in the hotel lobby), and Safeway Market on 5th St, five blocks away--beautiful store! So, although the hotel is well constructed, if you want luxury, look elsewhere. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Lots if construction next door!"
The bed in the bedroom was very comfortable, but the sofa bed mattress was dipping badly and my son's feet fell through the bottom!. The A/C system is the loudest I have EVER heard in my life. It was nice and cool but cycles on and off all night making for a bad nights sleep. If you DO manage to get some sleep, don't plan on sleeping past 7:00 am as […] there is MAJOR deconstruction and construction going on all around the hotel, and it does not end until after 9:00 pm. Although the hotel is beautiful and very clean, close to a metro stop, and one block to the convention center, every building surrounding it is boarded up waiting for construction. Better to stay off 7th St, where there are lots of restaurants and on a metro stop. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Good location for the city but lacking facilities."
I used the Eldon Suites as a base to explore the city and the location is very good, 2 mins from a metro and 15 mins walk into the city centre. The room was clean and well furnished, however based on the star rating and the cost I expected more attention to detail. The food left (chocolates etc - assumed for purchase but there was no price) was months […] out of date. The sofa bed was a little worse for wear, but use able. The staff were confused about extra occupancy charges, being told one cost on the phone and another on arrival. There was no fitness room... just an empty room on the 9th even though it was advertised. The staff were civil, but not (except for the man checking me in) very friendly and there seemed to be a poor general understanding about the hotel (in addition to the charges, there was confusion over breakfast cost and each enquiry at reception seemed to involve several people consulting to come up with and answer). It wins points on having some big rooms and it is a clean and satisfactory place if you are just sleeping, however the facilities are basically non-existent and if I hadn't booked through and Expedia sale I would be wondering where my money had gone. "Wifi?"
After a long battle with the wifi and my iphone I finally got the internet up and running on the last day of my stay. I had asked the front desk about any issues with the wifi and I got the same blank expression you get from teenagers that work at the mall, and finally the words, "I don't know." The breakfast is pretty good however. Sure it's a $10 […] continental, but the guy in charge of it is incredibly pleasant and helpful. I'd stay again, but only because it's relatively affordable and within walking distance of everything I like to do in DC. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"great, unless you need the internet"
I would love to recommend this hotel, however, I can't. The location, staff, room, etc. were wonderful - basically I had a 1-bedroom apartment. Often I could get no internet connection, even though the wifi indicator was at full strength and the network was allegedly working perfectly. Genuine Expedia guest review

Bei der Ankunft wurde uns die Auskunft erteilt, dass der Parkplatz pro Nacht $5 kostet.
