Downtown DC is awash with culture. The Smithsonian Institution museum complex flanks the National Mall. The Washington Monument bisects the Mall, just south of the White House. Federal agency headquarters house bureaucrats of varying stripes. Moneyed and powerful lobbyists help create (and quash) laws from K Street. Chinatown and the Washington Convention Center lie east of downtown.see all hotels in Washington
"Close to all the offices in DC"
5 mins from the office, place to sleep. Nice room. It is kinda small but it is got everything. Hotel personnel are very nice. Especially, FREE COFFEE in the morning is a big plus.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Response by Donovan House, a Kimpton Hotel Hi There Willy, Thanks for your comment. Seems like our staff really left an impression on you. They tend to do that frequently. As for the room size, we have a lot of options when it comes to Room Types. Many are over sized with great views! Check out the King Premier's, my favorite. Cheers, Abe Abe Liao Assistant General Manager
"Close to really good...."
This Hotel could be great....location, branding, cool points, restaurant, and Kimpton touch all in evidence here, but it misses in a few key areas...they're small, but they matter for a business traveler; no desk/chair for working, no surge protector/group outlet for devices, no ice machines on floors, slow room service (food quality really weak compared […] to restaurant). That said, they have a nice fitness center, and solicitous staff, so there's much to be said for it....a few tweaks, and it'd be great! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Response by Donovan House, a Kimpton Hotel Hi Travler, Thanks for your comment. You know what? I love these kinds of comments. Sounds like the functionality could really be improved. Good news! We've got a renovation coming up at the end of this year that will specifically address functionality, comfort and condition. Cheers, Abe Abe Liao Assistant General Manager
"Great location proximity to all museums"
The Donovan is an upscale hotel which is centrally located. The room I was in needs updating as the carpet and bed were shabby. The staff was very polite and well trained.Value for the cost of the room was excessive but it was all about location.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Response by Donovan House, a Kimpton Hotel Hi Alan, Thanks for your comment. I appreciate you pointing out our location. Personally, I think it's the best in the city. A perfect cross between business and leisure. Plus, the 14th Street neighborhood is really the hottest neighborhood in DC for dining and evening life. Cheers, Abe Abe Liao Assistant General Manager
"Classy, though slightly overpriced"
Hotel's great location-wise, overall quality, add-ons, etc. But for a king-size room to be 200, it's not the W. Let's make that a little fairer.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Response by Donovan House, a Kimpton Hotel Hi Reg, Thanks for your comment. Looks like a quality stay overall. Rates can be tough in Downtown DC during peak season. As far as the W, their rates are traditionally much higher than ours. Be sure to sign up for Kimpton InTouch. You'll receive member only deals that way. Cheers, Abe Abe Liao Assistant General Manager
"Very nice hotel... but.."
Great hotel, but the description didnt actually match what we got. Planned a quick romantic getaway for me & my love. The description of the room boasted city views. What we got was a view of the courtyard of the neighboring building. When I inquired at the front desk I was told that there would be a charge to upgrade the room to have a view. WHAT? […] I was taken aback because I had a visual of what the room would be like to add to the ambiance, not to mention, it was listed that I'd have a view. Aside from the view, or lack thereof, the hotel is pretty nice & incredibly clean. I'd definitely stay again, but next time I think I'd call the hotel directly & verbally confirm everything. "Nice hotel, close to the White House"
This hotel was a pretty good experience. The set up was modern and the staff was very polite. It was in a convient location to the White House and not a bad walk to other famous landmarks. The rooftop pool was also a plus.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Washington DC boutique experience"
This hotel offered superior service, clean, modern, chic designed rooms, lots of amenities found in much pricier hotels, great location - walking distance to the white house and all the sights! It was great to have the "forgot it, we got it" - which offered an extensive list of items to provide you complimentary if you forgot yours. The roof top pool […] and bar are excellent - great views, nice little bar, BUT - waaaaaayyy too small to accommodate full capacity - it was silly crowded - even with just guests. They open it up to general public at night and it is ridiculously jammed. Best - early AM sit and relax. Get there early for happy hour before it jams up. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

There is nothing but development all around the Hotel. Glad you enjoyed. Hi WRW, Thanks so much for your review. I appreciate all the comments about your stay. Sorry to hear about the bed situation. They are indeed King Size Beds, but a particular category considered a Contract King. "Clean, Comfy and Helpful"
Great room with an amazing view. I was actually sick (like deathly sick) upon my arrival to the Donovan House. I spent most of my time in the comfy bed watching lots of TV. When I called down to the front desk about the closest Urgent Care, the staff had a list of options for me to choose from. I've stayed in amy places in DC from 2-star to 5-star and we really liked this hotel. The staff was most impressive and friendly. No request was too much and we were treated so warmly. "Loved the room"
Hi, I was very pleased with the hotel although the restaurant was Asian-Fusion. It was very sophisticated but I absolutely think the menu needs some basics on it since it is a hotel restaurant and guests are arriving in late evening and not everyone likes that food. I thought the hotel staff was excellent in attitude, did not like the too loud bad music […] in the lobby, loved the efficiency of the room which was perfect for winding down and good sleep but one wanted to get up and go out in the morning. "Good to Almost Great"
Front desk staff was excellent, as was cocktail service in the small lobby/lounge area. Only complaint (admittedly a small one): Housekeeping didn't get to the room until late in the day, and over four days never replenished soap or shampoo supply. Otherwise, a very good hotel experience in a very good location.Genuine Expedia guest review

My boyfriend and I stayed here for one night as a spontanious getaway from NYC. We loved the room we stayed in, the ample amount of space, and the complementary wine hour upon arrival. This is a really fine hotel with a great staff. However the room temperature was hot and I could never get it to cool down-yes in January. You would expect that the sheets in such a great hotel would be comfy but they felt hard like they had cardboard added.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Clean and friendly, if a bit stark"
The decor is decidedly modern, and sacrifices a bit of comfort for it. The furniture is not the most comfortable and as another reviewer posted, the lighting is pretty bad in the rooms. I don't spend lots of time on my makeup, but the harsh shadows made it pretty tricky to apply. The bed was fine - no trouble sleeping, but ask for a high floor since […] the Thomas Circle traffic can be bothersome if you're sensitive to outside noises. I had to stay here during inauguration week, so prices were a lot higher than usual. All in all, I think the hotel was good and the location is PERFECT. Their gratis happy hour each evening is a REALLY great way to end a long day. Kimpton does some things VERY well: free wine and free wifi. Those things cover up a few other imperfections. Staff is always exceptionally friendly and helpful. Would stay again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Bad experience in hotel restaurant tainted my stay"
Almost everything about my stay was excellent. Except for a bad experience in the hotel restaurant. Some potential clients met me for a morning meeting. Since I did not know they did not have breakfast upon their arrival, I offered them breakfast in the hotel restaurant. I had already eaten. Only one of us three had the buffet. Two of us had coffee. […] Upon receiving bill, I saw that manager had added a $15 fee for our lack of 3 meals. He joked about it upon our ordering. I did not take him seriously. I wish I had. Our only complaint was our room was a handicap room and fortunately we do not need a handicap room. There was no chair in the room so we got 2 extra pillows to make reading easier. Very nice and modern Hotel. They offer coffee service in the morning in the lobby and wine tasting in the evening. Thats the only rooms to have there.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Good but strangely funky."
The hotel is well situated and was clean and the staff friendly and helpfully. It seems like it was designed in the 60s with style taking precedence over function. "Stay closer to the sites"
Our son lost his ipad in the lobby while we were checking in. there are cameras all over the hotel and my wife repeatly asked to have the tapes reviewed or even look at them herself. The receptionist continually blew her off and we never got any answers, if they can't review the tapes than just let us know. i did not appreciate getting blown off day […] after day, my wife asked twice a day, everyday for five days. on the other hand the bellmen were the best employees there. william was absolutly excellent along with all the other bellmen. they only have one restaurant in the hotel, an asian type restaurant, dont expect to have breakfast in the hotel unless your having room service. one suggestion is a little coffee shop right next to the hotel, excellent breakfast sandwiches, excellent prices for DC. for the money i would have rather stayed closer to the sites, even though we were in walking distance of some of the sites. there was a 24 hour cvs across the street, and a liquor store a block away, so that was a positive. they have every ESPN station, other than ESPN, for you sports fans that might be looking to chill in the hotel room and watch a game. my suggestion is stay closer to the white house, washington monument, smithsonian, and lincoln memorial, you wont regret it. it will be less walking from the donovan house to the sites, and if your not a walker it will be a lot less on cab fares. "Very Convenient stylish Hotel"
We stayed at the Donovan House during the Cherry Blossom Festival and freely recommend it to others based on 1) location and 2) comfort. Location: The hotel is very conveniently located on 14th and J two blocks from the McPherson Sq. Metro stop. Directly across the street is a 24 hour CVS - which was very convenient for my allergy medicine and our […] late night ice cream cravings. The hotel is located on a roundabout - circle in the middle of a very nice and picturesque neighborhood. We walked two blocks north on 14th Street through a residential tree-lined neighborhood with beautiful brownstones and two very beautiful and old churches. One has a statue of Martin Luther facing the circle. Up two blocks is the Mary McLeod Bethune National Historic site, which was a nice unexpected example of DC's rich history. It's worth a quick stop to learn about someone who was an important advisor to FDR. The more mainstream tourist attractions are also closeby in the other direction. The White House and Pennsylvania Avenue and the Mall are about a 10 minute walk from the hotel. There is a good indian food restaurant about 5-6 blocks away as well. All in all, it was a good location. Comfort: The hotel lobby is terrific. There is free wi-fi in the lobby and some great furnishings, including some classic acrylic egg chairs suspended from the ceiling. While the lobby is relatively small compared to other hotels, it seems to be a gathering place - probably due to the free wi-fi. The rooms were very modern with probably my favorite looking hotel shower in a long time. The shower was a white plastic capsule that lit up the room. The bed was possibly a little firmer than most people prefer, but I found it comfortable. We were upgraded to a suite which included a separate room with a couch and a desk. Quibbles: I just don't understand why hotels continue to charge for in-room wi-fi. While it is certainly a way to make money, it usually serves to simply aggravate the guests. "Very enjoyable weekend"
My fiance and I just wanted a quick getaway, so we chose DC and based on the pictures of the hotel, with its contemporary decor we were immediately attracted to the Donovan House. The location is perfect for anyone interested in visiting DC, as the location is convenient to any, if not all sites and attractions. The staff is EXTREMELY professional, […] from the front desk, to housekeeping, the valet guys, and even the staff of restaurant. The hotel was probably last renovated a number of years ago, so if you are expecting a "fresh" look this will not be the case, HOWEVER, it is still a very nice hotel. Honestly the only complaints I have are as follows: $42.00/night for parking is a bit steep The shower pressure is HORRIBLE ..That's it!!! If you choose to stay, considering what I have shared you should have a good experience. Hotel staff were very friendly, extras were pricey like valet parking but you'll pay that wherever u stay in the city.
