Hotel Palomar Washington DC, a Kimpton Hotel

i did not enjoy my stay here. went downstairs to ask front desk person if he could break a 20$ bill for me and heard him snarkily mutter, "what am i, a bank?" to a co-worker, who then proceeded to laugh. this behavior is wholly inexcusable, especially from someone working in hospitality and customer service. the hotel staff in general seemed disorganized […] and uninterested. we ordered room service from the hotel restaurant, and while was delivered quickly, the food itself was not very good. i will definitely not be staying at this hotel again and if this is any indication of the standards set by the kilmpton hotel group i will avoid staying in any of their hotels. We were very happy with our stay. When I booked my room, I booked a King room. When we arrived, we checked in while our car was being valeted. (Expensive at $42, but the going rate in a major city, overnight.) I remembered that there was a bottle of champagne in my trunk that I meant to bring in to the hotel. While the valet was bringing my car around, […] the manager and I were chit chatting. He asked where we were from (only a 45 minute drive) and why we were downtown. He then asked for my room key. I figured he was sending up a cupcake, or something like that. Instead, he upgraded us to the King Executive room which was ENORMOUS!! An hour later the hotel sent up a bottle of champagne (thankfully, right before we were about to open ours) and chocolate covered strawberries! It was a delightful surprise! Location in Dupont Circle is great. Late check-in was pretty smooth. The only negative were the really thin walls. They were so thin that we could hear the clicking of the lock when they put the keycard in. That was unexpected for a luxury boutique hotel. The room itself was fine and the front desk staff was helpful. Valet parking is very expensive, […] but after driving down from NY, I wasn't about to drive around looking for parking. My boyfriend and I stayed at this hotel for New Years. The valet parking gentlemen took great care of us. He helped find us parking every night we were there. My boyfriend was definitely grateful and appreciated all his support. Also, the front desk was awesome. We both loved our stay and would definitely stay here again.

My husband and I stayed here on vacation for a couple of days and we loved this hotel. The staff was very friendly and helpful, and the hotel itself was really beautiful. Our room was very clean and comfortable. We did not take advantage of the pool there, but we did use the gym which was great. It's right in Dupont Circle and within walking distance […] of the subway, bus, and to lots of great restaurants. It's also 20 minutes walking from Georgetown. The Hotel Palomar was a delightful hotel within a trendy area of Washington. We had a wonderful 2 nights stay in a King size room. Very clean, comfortable and spacious. Nicely decorated. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. We brought our dog with us and she was treated with the same respect as we were. The manager's wine reception was […] a great way to meet other travellers while sipping on some wine and snacks. The hotel itself is walking distance to many things. We took a cab to the Capitol Building then walked home. It was a great way to see the city. You can walk to the Monuments and walk home if you are a walker/average person but it would be a little to far for an elderly person. We did walk both ways one day and then did the cab the second day. The cab driver was very helpful and dropped us off at the top of the hill so we just had to walk down! There is a supermarket across the street to get any supplies you may need. There are many restaurants within one block to get take out food or dine in. There is an awesome bagel shop across the street that has fanastic bagels offering items all day. There is also Starbucks within the block for the coffee people. We ordered room service for one dinner and one breakfast. Both were great. Fair prices. Came with the 18% tip included so be mindful of that. We would definitely go back to this hotel and would (and have already) recommended it to others. Read more

I am still curious why this hotel has such a good Trip Advior rating. It was just ok and if you consider the price, it was overpriced for what you get. Maybe this hotel attracts young people who have never stayed in a nice (Ritz Carlton or even well kept Fairfield) hotel. Maybe it attracts europeans that are used to small not so nice hotels. We really enjoyed our visit to Washington DC and our stay at the Hotel Palomar. The location of this hotel was perfect. We were 5 minutes from Dupont Circle where we could catch the Metro; but also, we could easily walk to The Mall (where all the Memorial Monuments and Smithsonian Museums are located) approx. 30 minute walk; not to mention, easily walk […] to Georgetown where there is a charming shopping area with restaurants, boutiques etc ... You couldn't ask for a better location. The Hotel Palomar was lovely. The room was spacious and clean and comfortable. The lobby was always a hub for people to socialize as they offer complimentary wine and appetizers everyday at 5 PM. Mornings there is complimentary tea or coffee served. Everyone was very courteous and friendly and always there to help. We will return here on our next stay in Washington DC. Read more

I stayed at the Hotel Palomar 7th - 10th April. I am a tourist from the UK. I stayed in 3 different hotels in Boston, Chicago and washington and this was the most expensive and least impressive. I chose it because I had stayed in a Kimpton in San franciso 3 years ago and was impressed. It wasnt that anything was wrong I just found the hotel rather like […] a very well appointed motel without any of the individualism of a true Boutique hotel. I maybe over reacting to a very noisey Friday night, and I would suggest that if you require quiet that you request not to be near the ice machine and not to have connecting doors . I may not also not understand the pricing of rooms in washington and i cant compare with other hotels, but I wouldnt be recommending this to a friend. I would though warn any new travellers to washington that it ishelpful to be close to a metro station. FYI, taxis from Dupont Circle to the centre or to say George town are around $10 with tips. The hotel was located in walking distance from Georgetown and the center (White House etc.) and a metro stop was also near. Our room was very clean, spacious and warmly decorated. Even with the great room I have to say that the service was the thing why we will be back to Palomar.
