Downtown DC is awash with culture. The Smithsonian Institution museum complex flanks the National Mall. The Washington Monument bisects the Mall, just south of the White House. Federal agency headquarters house bureaucrats of varying stripes. Moneyed and powerful lobbyists help create (and quash) laws from K Street. Chinatown and the Washington Convention Center lie east of downtown.

"Great Location But Be Prepared To Climb Stairs"
This hotel is in a great location for Verizon Center events and the staff couldn't be more pleasant and helpful. The only flaw is that when the hotel is full there are not enough elevators. We, and many guests, gave up and just used the stairs during out four day stay. That isn't so bad when you are on a lower floor, but it can be a killer when you […] are on an upper floor! To be safe, be sure to request a room on the 3rd floor. Avoid the 2nd floor as it has the pool and workout room. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
breakfast was ok. it had a large selection and they changed it up the two days we stayed. my only complaint was the mandatory valet parking that cost $34 plus $6 tax each night. the staff was friendly and the hotel was clean. the whirl pool was nice but the pool didnt feel heated.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"perfectly adequate hotel"
Can't say I appreciated powdered eggs for breakfast, but there were other options, so most folks would find something acceptable. Would have liked more television station options. Fox but not MSNBC? Really?Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good location, no to clean room"
The hotel had a perfect location, close to everything! We had two rooms, one of them wasn't clean, we find some used ear cleaner stick, the toilet paper was almost empty etc... The breakfast was busy, the hot eggs was bad... the bell staff looked out from inside, and they tried to help us right after, when we finished unloading our car...Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Expected more for the money (and we live in CA)"
This hotel was conveniently located, but only valet parking is available at $34 a night, and is inconveniently located on just one side of the hotel on a busy street with a very tiny place to quickly park and unload. We enjoyed that the continental breakfast was more than just OJ and muffins. It was pretty good, actually, except for the powdered eggs […] used in the omelettes rather than real eggs. The bathroom fan was not working in our room, and the maintenance guy kept saying that the equipment on the roof was working just fine, as if he didn't hear the silence when we turned it on. We were not offered a different room. Also, the cribs are too small for infants older than 3 months, as our baby turned and her feet got caught in the rails. We took her out and just placed the mattress on the floor. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Disappointing for the price."
For the price, I was disappointed-I was told by Expedia that parking at the hotel was free (included in price I was paying but actually it cost $34.00 per day). The front lobby area of the hotel was under construction and the price did not reflect this inconvience, the jacuzzi was not working and was not going to be fixed during our stay. The breakfast […] area was much too small for the number of people eating breakfast-people were in the lobby area as well as in the breakfast area, it was not just overcrowded it was mobbed!!! The hotel staff was extremely nice and very helpful. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Breakfast room under construction"
The breakfast area is under construction (and has limited the area around the elevators). The room where breakfast is served is very tiny with few places to sit. In a word breakfast is "chaos".Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great hotel, but needs more elevators"
PROS: This is a great hotel that is well situated to get to the National Mall. There is a N-S bus that can easily take you there every 10 minutes. CONS: 2 elevators for 20 floors is not enough. You have to wait at least 5 - 8 minutes for an elevator.Genuine Expedia guest review
Ac was leaky and the carpet was wet. Bed was a bit springy and lumpy. The elevators take forever. Breakfast was good. Valet service was good. Front desk was good. Neighborhood was a bit sketchy.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

The hotel was very nice and clean but the room next to me was smoking in a NON smoking hotel!! About 11:00 at night my room started to smell of smoke, it was coming in through the bathroom air vents. I told the front desk but nothing ever came of it!!Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Pretty good..."
I had business at the VZN Center last weekend, the super-convenient location (I walked there in 5 minutes), free breakfast and fitness center were why I chose this hotel. It's a block or two away from Chinatown Center so on this Saturday night it was pretty busy when we arrived, quite a few people were loitering outside which I didn't like with my wife […] and 7 month old son in tow. I would say the room was average to nice and it looked like the hotel itself has been maintained quite well. The valet parking did seem a bit pricey for the location, but what are you going to do? It's downtown DC. I would stay here again if there was not a better alternative. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great Location for Touring DC"
This hotel was clean, comfortable, and worked well for our needs. It is an average 3-star+ hotel that served our purposes well--a place to stay downtown while visiting friends. It is well located for visiting key tourist sites (Capital, Smithsonians, White House, major memorials, etc.), as well as the DC Convention Center, with all within comfortable […] walking distance. Metro and bus transportation is also close and convenient. There are also plenty of good restaurants close by. The hotel provided a nice buffet breakfast that had minor changes over the two mornings we were there--plenty to eat. I would stay here again. It's not a resort experience, but a comfortable place to lay your head for the night. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Hotel was nice, a little out of the way from Capital but near Chinatown. Quick breakfast they offered every morning was a plus.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Room was OK , good size, and clean. Also nice bed and TV. Staff very friendly and supportive. Lobby is non attractive and poor. If you need your room but no need to have meetings at the lobby, then is a good choiceGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Washington for Cherry Blossoms"
We chose this hotel based on reviews from several books and websites. We had specific criteria desired for our hotel. We liked the idea of being close to the Metro, wanted to have an indoor swimming pool for the kids to use at the end of a long day of sight seeing, and a complimentary breakfast was a dollar saver. The hotel location was just a short […] walk to the Metro and that was helpful. The swimming pool was small and the hot tub smaller. No more than 4 people in the hot tub at a time. Unless you were related and didn't mind bumping shoulders with each other. The swimming pool area and the exercise room were filthy! The floors were scary. The hallway was about 60 degrees all the time, and the lobby was 60 with a breeze. We froze every time we were not in our room. Eating breakfast required jackets. The space available for the breakfast was not adaquate. A huge hotel and never a place to eat. The free chocolate chip cookies and hot chocolate were a nice touch, but getting there before they ran out was hit or miss. We witnessed a gang of teenagers getting arrested for drugs directly across the street, so I became a little concerned about the neighborhood. The number of restaurants that were not Chinese and not fast food was very few. The beds were great. The pillows were great. The noise was not pleasant. The bathroom was not the greatest, the curtain rod was falling off and the floor sticky. Staying in Dupont Circle next time. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Convenient, Great Breakfast Food - But an unwanted Visitor - Mouse on the 3rd Floor"
Good rate on the hotel. Friendly staff, good breakfast. Easy access to mass transit. Walking distance to Spy Museum and other attractions. Great location for meals - near China Town and the ATT convention center. Lots of great shopping. We did have a mouse in our 3rd floor room. He ate through a paper bag and cello wrap to get to them. My husband thought […] it was the children playing video games at 2am. We both got up, search for the source, found the cookies. I called the front desk and they offered to move us immeadiately. With 2 sleeping children we waiting until the next morning. We moved to the 9th floor without more unwanted visitor and remained there for 3 additional days. We left all other food sources in the microwave or frig. Again, it was a nice place and convenient, but just an unwanted guest. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
""Family Friendly""
The hampton Inn hotel is a very Family Friendly hotel and provides a daily breakfast buffet which can be very cost-saving for an extended trip. The rooms are nicely furnished and has adequate space. However, the surrounding neighborhood is much to be desired. There are numerous resturants throughout Chinatown and that was a real plus for a large group […] of family members. "Hampton Inn washington DC- Think twice"
My only complaints were that there is not enough seating for the breakfast buffet!!!!!!!,and people were eating their food on their laps in the LOBBY. they kept this area sweltering hot so you do not stay there long. Elevators take forever to come. I personally would not stay there again. Rooms were comfortable, quiet.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Rough Location- Would not Recommend"
While the hotel itself was perfectly acceptable, the location was not in a great part of town. It wasn't far to the major sights, but you had to walk past questionable characters hanging out on the sidewalk and front porches. When going out to dinner at night, we took a cab because we did not feel safe returning to the hotel by foot after dark. It's […] a shame because the hotel building is nice with clean, spacious rooms. Another downer is the $35 you have to pay for valet parking (and there are no parking garages around for self park, just shady parking lots). I thought the hotel breakfast was just fine, but my husband, who is more picky, said it was not worth it. Although the price was right, I would not recommend this hotel to a friend. "Good Hotel/Good Location"
Good, clean and comfortable hotel in a good location within walking distance of the Metro and a number of attractions. The hotel renovations however made the reception area and breakfast chaotic and unpleasant. Once completed, I am sure that the hotel will return to its previous standardsGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good apart from breakfast."
All good expect for breakfast- huge queues, little choice, poor quality, nowhere to sit.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Good Hotel, Average Internet"
The hotel was great and the breakfasts were very good. As breakfasts were complimentary, it was often quite difficult to get a table/seat in the morning. The wirelss internet in the rooms was low upload/download and so very slow. The hotel services book said that I could get signal booster from reception. When asked, the people on reception did not […] even know what I was talking about. They rang their 'maintenance' people and then told me they did not know what a booster was either. After this experience, they basically told me there was nothing they could do and ignored me. Given that low internet speeds meant we werenot able to use our didgital Videophone to call family on Christmas, this put a damper on our stay. The hotel did not have facilities to enable me to plug my Videophone in anywhere else. Apart from this bad experience, the hotel was fine. It was clean and well maintained. "Not very impressed"
The quality of the hotel was average. Staff at breakfast were very helpful and accomodating and the breakfast was one of the hotel's finer points. Staff member at the front desk was on a personal call when we arrived and continue the phone call while we checked it (which was not very welcoming nor attentive). Bathroom did not have a fan so when you […] showered both bathroom and bedroom were humid and steamed up. Hotel in a depressed area (would not want to be walking outside the hotel when it is dark). Pool was uncomfortably cold and television had very limited channels (kid's programming such as Family/Disney was extra and quite expensive - you paid for individual shows). Rooms were small but were kept very clean. The hotel is a good hike from the tourist attractions. If price is your main factor it is a clean, well kept hotel but for our family I felt it offered little extras and little to recommend itself. I likely would not go back. "Pretty satisfied."
I would recomend this hotel. The location is a little ways from the Whitehouse. But, the staff is very friendly, the breakfast was good. There was a mixture of pastries, cereal, yogurts, fruits and there also had egg, omelettes, bisciuts and potatoes in the hot entres. We were in washington for the 4th of July and the temperature was above the 90 degree […] zone. The hotel had ice water, lemonade and freshly baked cookies in the afternoon, which was a relieve comiong in from the heat outside. By the way, for those business travelers who have no time for breakfast, there have brown bag breakfast of cereal, friuts, granola bars and a water botlle to go, which i thought was very nice of Hampton Inn to do. Pretty good, i would definately stay in this hotel again. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Hotel under renovation"
The hotel is under renovation (as September 1-3, 2012): the pool and spa is closed, as well as the bar and breakfast room. Breakfast buffet is served in a tiny room, where it is quite difficult to find a seat. In addition, you have to wait for a while (5-10 min queue) until you can get your breakfast.Genuine Expedia guest review
