Mid-rises and mansions grace the leafy streets of Dupont Circle, where independent cafes and shops thrive. With a number of gay bars and businesses, this area is DC’s main gay neighborhood. Foreign flags fly high on Embassy Row, the stretch of Massachusetts Avenue from the Circle to the National Zoo and National Cathedral. At night, locals head north to Adams Morgan for drinks and live music.

THEIR WAS NOTHING IN THE REFRIGATOR, THERE WAS NO TURN DOWN SERVICE, THE HEAT MADE NOISE EVERY TIME IT CAME ON. THIS HOTEL IS DEFINATELY NOT A FIVE STAR HOTEL. NOT EVEN CLOSE. "Ok."
The hotel was clean and the staff was friendly. It did not seem very busy and the hotel staff could have been more accommodating about a late check-out. The restaurant was completely empty and was way too quiet to spend the evening dining there with no one else around. Trying to have dinner there was quite awkward, and we left before ordering. Nothing […] was particularly bad, but overall I don't think it was worth the money. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Wonderful location, poor maintenance, garage $47"
I had mixed reactions. Location is wonderful. But garage is $47 per night, and valet service is slow. In room, both of my faucets ran hot water only, so hard to take shower. But drinking water available in gym. Rooms are upscale, beds excellent. TVs not set up to plug in laptop. In general, I had a pleasant stay, but would be more annoyed if I had paid […] sticker price rather than hotels.com price. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Not quite as good as it is advertised to be."
First of all - love the LOCATION! Very close to Dupont Circle; many restaurants and cafes within walking distance. Close to Metro and a "short" walk to downtown. Pros: Room is clean. Large flat screen TV. Great temperature control. Cons: Daily newspaper promised - never delivered (appears it was everyone at our end of hotel that never received the […] paper). Online costly and mostly does not work. No good parking option - valet is $50. Room is too small and not very well designed. No hooks for anything. Shower is designed in a way that makes you stand IN the shower when you turn it on - yep, very cold. Pillows uncomfortable. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Great Hotel, disappointed with service"
The hotel is top-notch and in a great location convenient to Dupont Circle shops and restaurants. Unfortunately the service left a lot to be desired. By accident, I left some personal items in my room and called back the hotel the night I check out to see if they could help me recover them. They told me they would call me back, which they didn't. So […] I called back again the next day and told me to call back. After five times of calling them at different days and times, nothing. Definitely not the kind of service you would expect from a 5-star hotel. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Wonderful service, but not kid friendly."
The only reason I give this 3 stars instead of 4 was one particular incident with the staff. Overall, the service at this hotel was wonderful. The staff was very polite, and wanted to make sure all amenities were provided, etc. We had to go to an off-site event where children were not allowed, so a babysitter was left with our toddler. She fell asleep […] and when awoke, she panicked since she was in an unfamiliar place and with an unfamiliar person. Shrieking resulted, which I understand bothered other patrons. The hotel staff went and complained to our sitter, and she informed them that she'd already called us (just 10 minutes into the screaming), and we were on our way. The staff then called us after that to tell us there was "some sort of problem with our child", which is not what a parent wants to hear (it made us think something *really* wrong could be going on). Anyway, child was only crying for half an hour total. So, yes, any noise will be dealt with by staff immediately, but if you have a child who might cry for more than a few minutes, it might not be the best place to stay! "Nice hotel but ..."
Overall, the staff was friendly and the hotel was clean but we experienced a couple of problems. Ice machine was broken - reported to hotel staff - wasn't fixed for three days. In July in 99 degree heat, I expected better service than that. Also charged a room service charge that didn't belong to us. We got it removed but not makes you wonder why something […] like that happens it the first place. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"High price for little getting-only Bed"
The hotel is generally good there was some bad surprises like the Parking Price 40 US$ for night Parking, Breakfast Not Included – Not free internet (only in the lobby) we were 4 person that could double the price … therefor I suggest to ensure before ordering or finalizing the order to verify what the order includes.Genuine Expedia guest review
Response by The Fairfax at Embassy Row, Starwood Luxury Collection While it seems your stay was enjoyable, we are disappointed that there were certain aspects of your stay that did not meet your expectations. We encourage our guests to inquire, either at check-in or online, as to what amenities are included and which ones have fees per use. Your suggestion is absolutely a good idea! Thank you for letting us know about your stay and for your review.
"Not good for families"
Front Desk staff clearly only caters to business travelers. For example, on the first morning, when I asked for a recommendation for a "cheap, family breakfast place" for ourselves and our two hungry teenage boys, we were sent to a French bakery focused on organic breads and $3.75 coffee. I imagine that the front desk clerk must have thought she was […] demonstrating how elegant she is, rather than understanding our clearly stated needs. The following morning, we tried the hotel's restaurant and fared even worse. The breakfast buffet is expensive and its limited selection is poorly prepared (e.g., soggy sausage, dry, hard scrambled eggs). Dining room staff was uncaring and slow. Basic requests such as, "Bring me a bread plate, please." resulted in a pile of dinner plates! On the fifth floor, the ice machine was not working and when I informed a staff member, I was told to go get some on the fourth floor. No service-oriented solution, nor an apology, was offered. Response by The Fairfax at Embassy Row, Starwood Luxury Collection While we do welcome business travelers on a regular basis, our hotel also welcome families, couples, and those just looking for a comfortable getaway experience. As with any larger city, the price for amenities is usually more expensive than in smaller cities and we do apologize if the restaurant suggestion given you was not what you expected. We do regret that the service you received from our staff was not what you would expect of us and we will be sure to mention your review to them. Thank you for letting us know about your stay and for your review.
"Very nice if you like older style"
The Fairfax was very nice, definitely gave you the "old money" type of feel. Our shower wasn't draining properly so we had to take military style showers. Unfortunately we had to report the problem twice before it was fixed. The staff was very courteous. Parking is $80 per night, so brace yourself for that additional cost. "Good service, bad internet."
The reason I only give this hotel 3/5 is because of their internet service. It was so slow that not since dial-up days have I experienced such bad wi-fi. I could not even pull up my email. (And no, it's not an issue with my computer or anything else.) As a positive sidenote, they removed the charge for internet without any questions. The service was […] great, the food was even better. The room was a bit worn down and somewhat sloppily fixed up, but other than that everything was good. I would give it a 4/5 had the internet not been so bad, but that brings it down to a 3/5 for me. Fair. Guest services not of high quality. Housekeeping never made bed first day and no turn down service on either night. Staff other than concierge rather indifferent to guests. Being a bit of a hotel snob and having worked in the hotel industry as well as "shopped hotels" for a living I would say that this property seems to be running itself. Staff […] definitely could use more training in how to welcome it's guests. Would not consider this a 5 star luxury property. Nice convenient location. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"GREAT LOCATION!!!!"
The room was very nice but on the small side. Did not like the pillows on the bed. One was a king pillow and one was a standard pillow. Do not understand if you have a room with a king bed why they would not have 2 king pillows. Also, the air conditioning was a real problem. It kept clicking on and off all night long and I could not sleep because it […] was noisy and close to the bed. I had the temperature set at 70 degrees dont know why it kept doing this. Had to leave a window open so it would stop turning on and off. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Follow up service is lacking"
Overall, the experience was ok. I accidentally left a jacket in my hotel room and it took 3 calls before I was told they did not find it even though I know it was hanging on the back of the desk chair. The first two times/days I called I was told they would return my call, but they never did.Genuine Expedia guest review

"The Fairfax Embassy Row Washington DC"
I did not receive maid service for my 2 day stay. Did complain at front desk the second evening; and in all honesty, just asked to have coffee replace. When I first checked in there was a feather duster left on the floor of the room; in hind sight wonder if that was left for me to do own cleaning. If it had not been for lack of maid service I would […] have given it an excellent rating. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Housekeeping was very poor. No towels replaced on 3 of 7 days, no coffee replaced on 3 of 7 days, no ice bucket liners on 4 of 7 days. Keys did not work 1 day. Front desk had to be called more than once to fix some of these problems, like providing towels.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"a bit ridiculous"
Valet parking cost is ridiculous! The hotel is nice, but rooms are tiny, tv had no remote, mini bar was not stocked, ice machines were all broken, and room service prices (had we ordered) were outrageous. "Won't stay there again not worth the price."
First 2 nights scked we were put in a room overlooking a huge air conditioner which made noise all night long. And we had to ask for this room because Miss Ruiz did not want to give my cousin and myself the room on my reservation which said .2 beds pretty specific. Then I complained again and we were given a better room but I don't feel when you are […] staying at a four and a half star hotel paying good money a person not need complain . Also when we got there the first night we had walked a long way exhausted and hot we asked miss Ruiz for water and she said she didn't have any . Every hotel we walked into for the mettings we attended asked us or just automatically gave us water Dissappointed don't recommend. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Some disappointing aspects"
The HVAC unit made a good deal of noise. The shower was quite weak and could not be adjusted. The toilet ran periodically. There was no ice machine on the floor, but there was a sign pointing to ice. This lead me and other guests to walk up and down a long corridor looking for the ice machine.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Comfort - fine, service - disappointing"
The room is perfectly comfortable, especially the bed and desk area. However, it was starting to come apart at the seams: the surround on the vanity unit was unsightly, the shower curtain moved on its own due to a poorly mounted shower rail and the interior could be freshened a little. However, the worst aspect of this hotel are the staff (upon whom […] others have poured voluminous praise!). The welcome and check-in were cold. When arriving in the lobby each morning, it could be difficult to find a responsible person or - at the other extreme - everyone was shouting 'hello' as if their life depended on it. Again, both approaches sadly seemed to lack warmth or sincerity. It would be easier to get the attention of the concierge if you phoned him (both times I spoke to him, he cut me off mid-sentence to answer the phone and waved me away). It is also difficult to get out the front door as the double doors are small and have two members of staff holding the handles. If they are paying attention to something more interesting (e.g., a taxi driver, each other, the concierge), you had to push through to actually get out the door. Finally, it was clear to me that the housekeeping staff were more interested in getting a tip than anything else, which I suppose I understand. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Left much to be desired"
Considering it is a luxury hotel, the service was deficient in many respects; first of all, the wi fi in the room was really expensive whereas the norm is now to have free wifi; the business center internet rate of $6.95 for 15 minutes was absurd; the only restaurant in the vicinity of the hotel had ridiculously over priced breakfast menu; the reception […] staff were flaky and the front door and bell captain staff were looking mostly for tips instead of giving any useful advice Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

When we got back from dinner, we went up to our room, but the crib wasn'T in it (we had specified that we wanted a crib when we booked). We had […] to wait over an hour to get the crib. "fairfax at embassy row , μετριο ξενοδοχείο"
