Hotel Madera, a Kimpton Hotel

The Madera appears upon close inspection to be an older (80's?) hotel that has been very heavily remodeled very fashionably. It's stylish, well-located, and has an extremely friendly and professional staff. Clean, well-maintained and comfortable. Great restaurant on the ground floor. We did not bring a car, but parking looked a little tight and a bit […] expensive, but I think that must be par for the DuPont Circle area. Easy walk to the Metro, food, etc. Can't say enough good things about the staff. Room was spotless, desk staff was very accommodating, and yet not lacking in personality. There's none of the institutional sterility that comes with a bigger chain, e.g. Hilton. Comfy bed, nice linens, couldn't ask for more. Picking nits: Some fundamental things that probably can't be easily changed: our King Balcony had an extremely small shower/toilet area, though having that separate from the rest of the dressing/sink area was extremely convenient. No coffee or hot pot in the room, which really isn't laid out for it, but coffee service in the lobby. Putting on pants before my first cup of coffee is not part of my usual routine, but it's hardly a deal-breaker. Overall a very nice place to stay. We'll be back. Read more

The king size room was small but the bed was very comfortable. The room was exteremly clean and fresh. The service was excellent and the wine get together was fun. The coffe and tea were supurb. The Dupont Circle location put it close to restraunts and dance clubs.

The hotel was nice enough, but the website pictures are fairly generous. I was a little bummed out when we walked in. The room was okay and was clean. Bathrooms were tiny. Also, the restuarant/bar was closed for renovations. It would have been nice to know that before we selected this hotel. Probably wouldn't return.

Hotel was nice, quiet, clean and in a great location. The hotel staff were extremely nice and helpful. Only little complaint would be small shower. The restaurant attached was very good. I would recommend this hotel 100%.

Mybstay at the Madera was very good and typical of stays at other Kimpton hotels. Friendly staff, nice plusses (wine reception, quality restaurant, robes), good location, spacious room, etc. my only issues was that on the third floor there was a bit too much external noise from people waking by late at night. As all the other Kimptons have been, Hotel Madera was certainly no disappointment. Friendly staff, clean room and comfortably firm bed. Restroom/sink area was a bit small, but not uncomfortably. We stayed during the hurricane Irene, so the staff's help/support with our stay shined more. The restaurant in the hotel is very good as well.

We had a really good time staying at the Hotel Madera. The staff is super nice and helpful (especially Fernando) and you can't beat the free wine/sangria/snack happy hours. OK, I had read online that the bathrooms were small. "Small" doesn't really describe the situation. These are the worst designed bathrooms I have ever seen. You want to pick up a hammer and knock down the wall dividing the sink area from the tub and toilet room. The door to the bathroom clears the toilet by about an inch. It's truly astonishing. The […] room itself was also very tight, but beautifully appointed and the bed was comfortable. The location is just great - about a block from the metro, the Firefly restaurant serves excellent food, and there are other restaurants nearby that are wonderful too. I love Kimpton hotels for their offbeat quirkiness and amazing style, so I was excited to try Madera for our D.C. trip. It was a little late when we arrived at the hotel and we were given prompt, friendly service. We were given a romm on the first floor, right next to the restaurant, and were amazed at how quiet the room was despite the noise from the […] restaurant and bar. There was, however, a problem with the bathoom light. It is on a motion censor (it is a "green" hotel" and for some reason the light would come on and off on its own. We simply shut the bathroom door and didn't didn't bother us after that. The next morning I reported the problem to the front desk and the immediately switched us to a specialty room! Both rooms were super comfy and had great amenities, and I would reccomend this hotel to anyone looking for something a litte different, but romantic.
