Built in 1906, the Churchill Hotel was originally constructed as an apartment dwelling in Washington, D.C. This property is located three blocks from Dupont Circle. The Phillip's Collection, considered the nation's first modern art museum, is located three blocks from the hotel. The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts is positioned one mile away.
Hotel Features.
The lobby features marble floors, fresh bouquets, recessed lighting and an ornate gold-plated chandelier with 21 individual lamp shades. Renaissance paintings dress the walls. The Chartwell Grill, named after Sir Winston Churchill's estate, is well known for American-style seafood and steak preparations. The business center is available twenty-four hours a day. Wireless Internet access is available throughout the hotel. In-room spa services include Swedish, deep tissue, reflexology, aromatherapy, and hot stone massages; advanced reservations are required for spa treatments. A limited-hour fitness facility houses cardiovascular equipment, and the hotel offers discounted passes to a health and sports club located across the street.

Chartwell Grill - Small, traditionally decorated restaurant named after Sir Winston Churchill's estate. Crab cakes and steak with French fries and garlic mayonnaise among menu highlights. Adjacent paneled lounge with leather chairs, semicircular bar serving cocktails, light fare.
The second-floor fitness center contains two treadmills, a stair machine, an exercise bike, and a wall-mounted television. Complimentary bottled water and apples are provided. Snack and soda vending machines are also available.
The Churchill offers discounted passes to a large health club one block south. In addition to an extensive array of equipment, the club has classes in yoga, boxing, kickboxing, Latin dancing, and Pilates.
Hains Point, about 2.5 miles away on the banks of the Potomac River, features an 18-hole public golf course, a two-tier driving range, and a miniature golf course that's on the National Register of Historic Places. Other attractions include a playground and the giant sculpture The Awakening.

Mid-rises and mansions grace the leafy streets of Dupont Circle, where independent cafes and shops thrive. With a number of gay bars and businesses, this area is DC’s main gay neighborhood. Foreign flags fly high on Embassy Row, the stretch of Massachusetts Avenue from the Circle to the National Zoo and National Cathedral. At night, locals head north to Adams Morgan for drinks and live music.

We lucked out finding this place after being COMPLETELY turned off by our original reservation at the Baron Hotel (AVOID, AVOID, AVOID). It was a comfortable, gracious hotel which we liked. Much more personality in our rooms, then say the Holiday Inn or Hiltons near us. The breakfasts were extra, and worth it before a day of walking DC. The Dupont Circle metro line is a short walk down a hill from the hotel and an easy connect to the rest to the system. A pretty building and a great location but I expected nicer. The room to which I was originally assigned (which was supposed to be a nonsmoking room) looked nice but reeked of smoke and I asked for a different room. The new room was rundown(loose bathroom floor tiles, carpet that did not properly adhere to floor, etc.) and far from nice. Even the linen […] was a big downgrade. Also, this is not a very quiet place- housekeeping activities in the hallway and noises from other rooms and were quite noticeable. "Reasonable but nothing special"
Biggest drawback was lack of desk in room -- not convenient for business travelers. Also not enough outlets for travelers with gadgets. (Not an uncommon problem with older buildings, but easily addressed by putting a surge bar in each room.) Otherwise room was clean with plenty of storage space. Service in restaurant was mediocre but food was fine. […] Exercise room was nicely equipped with treadmills, weights and elliptical machines - very clean and well lit. "Pricey and overrated"
The in-suite refrigerator literally is empty. For the price, you would think they'd at least give you water! And the walls are paper thin. I could clearly hear the telephone conversations, TV and radio of the guest an adjacent room. You can even hear your neighbor sliding hangars in the closet! Had to sleep with ear plugs. Restaurant service is poor. […] The menu is limited, and the one time I attempted to eat there after 45 minutes I still had not received the "medium" hamburger I ordered! The metro is a hike from the hotel, but at least there are plenty of dining options along the way. The hotel is dead after 11pm, but the Hilton across the street is lively and you can get a meal. The Churchill is a nice historic hotel. Pluses: The room was very clean and the bed/bed linens were very nicely done. The bathroom was tiny but extremely clean! It was easy to walk to the Metro and there were some nice shops right in the neighborhood. For the price, the Churchill was nice. We waited to make reservations as the price continued to drop weekly. But that's only because, obviously, they were not sold out. The hotel is older, but the room was nice. Not too much light as there was only one full window and one tiny transom window. "Great weekend getaway."
Nicely appointed room, although not a lot of space to move around between the desk and the bed. Tiny bathroom - not quite enough counter space - but all of the amenities were there.
