Downtown DC is awash with culture. The Smithsonian Institution museum complex flanks the National Mall. The Washington Monument bisects the Mall, just south of the White House. Federal agency headquarters house bureaucrats of varying stripes. Moneyed and powerful lobbyists help create (and quash) laws from K Street. Chinatown and the Washington Convention Center lie east of downtown.

"If only the staff were worth their paychecks"
The hotel was beautiful and conveniently located. It was within walking distance of the Washington monument. Unfortunately, the hotel staff was useless. I was traveling with my mother and my three daughters. We arrived late in the evening (about 9pm). First off, we unloaded the car ourselves for valet parking and then waited for them to realize that […] they needed to come and get the key. We went into the lobby carrying all of our bags and not one person stopped to help or even direct us to the check-in desk though many staff members were milling about. The reception desk checked us in, handed me keys, and literally pointed in the direction of the elevator. That was it. I was annoyed, to say the least. Unfortunately, the annoyances continued as our room was not prepared as it was supposed to be (even though we had called less than an hour beforehand and been assured it WOULD be ready). The next morning, the annoyance continued as again, not one person offered to help with bags or point us in the direction of the parade we were there to attend. Many staffers walked AROUND us as we carried our bags to the elevator and through the lobby. The icing on the cake was the 57 minutes we spent sitting in the lobby waiting for the car to be returned from the valet after the parade. Overall, the facility was beautiful and in a great location but I will not be staying here again due to the HORRIBLE service. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Five minutes to White House"
We chose this hotel for location and comfort. It was a short walk to the tour entrance to the White House, easy to catch a cab to other locations, and within a short walk of good restaurants and shopping.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"The Best Service Experience I Ever Had"
I have stayed at the Ritz where I used to set the bar on hotel service... I had an even better experience at the JW Marriot on Penn. Not just one example... over and over, I just missed the closing of Starbucks- the bellman ran over to tell me where there was one around the corner.... my bags were lost and after explaining that there were medical items […] I needed and I couldnt wait for a moring drom, they called and had security deliver the bag at 3am! Over and over again... nothing but outstanding- in the resturant, in the lobby, all the cleaning staff!!!! Thank you all the staff and the management for a planned fun weekend in DC that you made even better! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Brilliant Location & Best Beds I have ever slept i"
Brilliant location, 2 blocks from the White House. The rooms are clean, tv channels are clear and HD is available on a lot of the channels, the beds and towels were the best quality I have seen in a hotel in a very long time, just superb. The elevators take a little getting used to as you select the floor you want before getting into the elevator. The […] system then selects one of the 5 elevators to take you to the floor you selected so there are no further selection inside the elevator should you change your mind which floor you want, you have to exit the lift first. I highly recommend this hotel in Washington DC, you can't ask for more Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Hotel was great but pool had too many chemicals"
There was way too much chlorine in the pool. It completely bleached my kids' swimming suits and they broke out into a rash. Other than that the hotel was wonderful!!Genuine Expedia guest review

"great location, great comfort"
We were very impressed with the hotel atmosphere and friendliness of the staff. Our room was clean and comfortable. It was in a great location for all the tourist activities. You could walk or easily access a cab. We felt secure and safe and well taken care of. I would highly recommend this to anyone staying in the DC area and would go back.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Don't bother with the breakfast"
My girlfriend and I would have liked the king bed we requested rather than the two double beds we got, but it wasn't exactly the end of the world. We also paid the $50 for the "stay for breakfast" option, and while I'm not saying the food was bad, per se, I think any time I pay $50 for breakfast for two it ought to blow me away. And it didn't. Otherwise, […] the hotel is well-located and well-appointed--I just wouldn't pay for the breakfast option in the future. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"perfect location and nice room"
The hotel is perfectly located and it is really easy to find a good spot for dinning and tourism. One of the best parts is they have a starbucks on site so it is really convenient. For people who want to go to theaters in DC, this is might be one of the best places to live because most of the theaters are located really nearby and the national theater […] is right next door. Breakfast is really good, too. Absolutely need to mention, they have really comfortable blanket! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Good hotel, bad parking service"
Very nice hotel, in good location, with helpful, friendly staff. It should be noted, however, that the parking service is subcontracted, and is very inefficiet nin moving traffic just outside the hotel. Very long & disorganized waits for taxis. Also, we parked my son's car during breakfast for a couple of hours, and we were charged $40 + $7.0 tax. No […] exceptions, per the parking concession, and the hotel. We feel that if Marriott sucontracts to another company, they should still be ultimately responsible for their service, or lack therof. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice hotel - Don't take a car with you!"
The hotel is wonderful, great amenities, clean, wonderful staff. But DO NOT park your car with this hotel. At a slack time it took an hour to get to the front entrance to valet park and check in, it took 100 minutes to get my car after the rush. Except for the parking thing, it was a great stay!Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Great location, mediocre service."
Excellent location just 5 minute walk to White House. Comfortable but not outstanding hotel. Breakfast on Friday extremely crowded, had to wait 40 minutes to get a seat on a holiday weekend. Other services also under-resourced (front desk, housekeeping) so long waits. In Asia, JW Marriott is generally a 5-star hotel almost on par with Ritz Carlton, wheras […] this hotel was more of a slightly glorified, run-of-the- mill Marriott. From this perspective, the value for price paid was not as outstanding as I had expected initially. But once I readjusted my expectations, it was a perfectly fine hotel for a family weekend. "Great Location"
The Hotel is very conveniently located and very spacious. Staff was friendly and rooms clean and pleasant. We were not very improssed with the food. Very pricey for what you get. I recommend you look for a restaurant if you are into quality food, there are plenty around!Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great location, lacking in style"
This hotel has a great kocation, close to all the major monuments in Washington. But it lacks personality. It's clear, well-maintained and extremely well-staffed, but its design is generic and bland.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great location to see DC"
Beautiful hotel, near all the attractions. I'm usually not critical of people and this is the first time I've bothered to written a review. I would have give this hotel an overall 5 if their staff was a friendlier and courteous. Seems the folks working the front door and at the concierge needs a course in customer service. "OK Overall"
I expected to go into a flagship J.W. Marriott and feel like it was luxurious - that was not the case. While it was perfectly nice, it wasn't any nicer than a standard Marriott. "Great spot to see DC"
We had a great time as a family in DC over Thanksgiving. And this hotel was perfect. Stayed here with our kids. Everything was within walking distance. "Absolutely satisfying!"
This is a beautiful comfortable Hotel. The fassade is not very inviting or even representative, but just about crossing the entrance one will be positively surprised. The location could not be better. Elevators have a strange but usefull system. Once you know how to use it, you will like it. All in all a very recomendable hotel.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Great location"
We stayed over Sat. Nov. 3rd, we got a deal on Hotels.com. We loved the location, however if I had to have paid the regular rate per night I would have been disappointed. A couple of complaints, the hotel hairdryer was horrible and the walls were so thin. We stayed in room 1188 and next door was having a party I felt like they were in the room with […] us. They eventually stopped around 11pm but very inconvenient. The breakfast brunch was very expensive. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"DON'T STAY HERE. DISMISSIVE AND RUDE EMPLOYEES"
Don't stay here! Housekeeping showed up at 4:30 pm after we were gone all day, and wanted access to the room. We asked for towels. That's the extent of service we received. We asked for help at the concierge desk, and received only a phone number. Zero effort to assist or accommodate despite a price of more than $500 per night. The staff was rude […] and dismissive. At one point, I was told that 'we are busy this weekend'. At $500 a night, hire more personnel. I never once complained about a Marriott property, and in fact have an 'elite' status. That status was worth nothing. Time to see if Hilton will serve better. I saw items on the room service menu that appealed to me, but the room was not made up so I went to the restaurant ans asked if I could get those items (they were not found on the menu in the main dining room). I was told 'absolutely yes. its all the same kitchen' by the hostess. The waiter, however was frustrated with me. I told him we would simply leave and get a pizza nearby. He was suddenly able to rise to the challenge and provide the food we wanted When I asked them clearly and SPECIFICALLY to skip the housekeeping service when they appeared at 4:30 pm, I left for a brief time. When I returned, they were in the room anyway and delayed my use of the room I complained to the manager and got NOTHING in reply. The staff must have so much business that they do not care about the people that choose to stay there. I'll NEVER reserve a room there again Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Perfect for tourists or business travel"
I have stayed at this hotel.several times and have been pleased every time. Everthing is high quality. Service is friendly and excellent. There are 2 restaurants, a sports bar, and a more upscale full service restaurant. both are good, though not exceptional. The spa/ fitness center is very nice. The central location is perfect for access to the […] national mall, monuments and Smithsonian attractions All in all a great value. The only reason I wuold not give it 5 star accross the board is that it is not quite on par with the most opulent of hotels. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Great location to sight see in D.C."
Super location, could walk to most everything we wanted to see. The Metro was steps from the front door. The bar/lounge was wonderful, the food was great and the drinks delicious! The bartender was friendly and knowledgeable. The only issue we had was when our son was swimming with me, and he wanted to change but left his key in the room that he was […] sharing with his grandfather. Since his grandfather was out, it took literally hours for them to let our son back in the room to change his wet bathing suit. They cited security reasons! Overall that was frustrating! On arrival we had to change rooms right away due to plumbing issues, but that was handled pretty well. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
