"Great for our family"
We stayed two nights over the first weekend in December 2012 to attend the Christmas activities at Colonial Williamsburg. This was our first visit to Williamsburg Plantation and we had our two adult daughters in tow. The lodge (I'll call it that because it has separate buildings) has a number of services that we didn't have time to use, as we were out […] and about so much. There are only 2 hotels in Colonial Williamsburg proper, so all others including this one require a drive to the visitor's center, but this was expected and actually worked well as we stopped for breakfast at one of the plentiful pancake houses on the way. PROS: Two bedroom suite was spacious and more than we actually needed. Nice kitchenette and lounge for gathering together. Property is very well kept and the limited interactions we had with staff were very positive and they were very helpful. Housekeeping is not everyday since this is a resort, but you could request it. CONS: The walls were a bit thin in our suite, so no monkeying around! No other concerns, though. We will be back to the area for a visit and plan to stay here again. "Family Friendy Experience"
We were happy to have spent a portion of our Christmas vacation at the Williamsburg Plantation this year! We found the accommodations to be more than adequate; the clean apartment (not just a hotel room,) with two bedrooms, two bathrooms, kitchenette and living room, close to the club house and pool, made the "out-of-the-way" location totally worthwhile. […] Remember this is a timeshare, but at no time were we asked if we were interested in purchase. Family make-up: 2 adults and 2 children, ages 3 and 5. Time spent: 3 nights, 4 days total. The only two downsides: Having to use the car to get anywhere (which we believe is pretty much a US thing,) and keeping the kids awake on the 25 minute drive back from Busch Gardens, late at night. Multiple upsides: dishes in the kitchen, full size fridge, microwave, dishwasher, laundry facility in building, easy parking, great kid-friendly pool (deep end 5'), club house gym (for adults only,) club house events, picnic tables/playgrounds on site, tennis courts, and most important, privacy! "Best Yet"
We have stayed at 4 different Williamsburg resorts and so far this is our favorite. We stayed over the Christmas holiday in a 2-bedroom suite. It was large, clean, bright and very comfortable with a huge jetted, soaking tub and cozy fireplace in the living room. My only complaint would be that the kitchen area did not include a stove top for cooking, […] while this was not such a problem given our 4 days stay, if we were there for longer, I would like to have this option. All unit kitchens have a microwave, refrigerator, toaster, blender, dutch oven and coffee maker. Full kitchen units have all of these items plus a range/oven. I know that when I got the reservations over the phone, I asked that each of family member groups to be together in one building. For the most part, we were. However, my nephew and his family were put in accommodations three rows of condos away. We traveled with our family and this hotel was wonderful for our needs. Lots of room, very comfortable beds. We read several of the other reviews and found ourselves very pleasantly surprised that no one pushed any sales and that our stay was simply excellent. "All rooms are smoking..."
Pros: - Very helpful staff - General location is convenient to attractions - The grounds are well maintained - The rooms are reasonably furnished - Note: these are condos that are rented out. Cons - There are no non-smoking rooms despite the description saying otherwise. Our first room had a strong stench of smoke. We went back to the Reception Desk […] and were informed that all rooms are open to smokers. We did managed to find a room that did not smell like smoke. Had I known this, I would not have stayed here - it's that important. - Bed. Queen size bed that felt like a rock - very uncomfortable I not generally a complainer, you take it as you find it. This is a time share resort. So they will try to get you to go on the HORRIBLE tour by waving a giftcard in front of your face. Don't do it. But the room was very comfy and the pools are great! Our 2 bedroom condo was very spacious with large rooms and 2 large baths. It was very clean with brand new carpet and furniture, and the kitchen well equipped. It was very quiet. When we first got there our room smelled horribly. My son's eyes were hurting. We don't know where it was coming from...maybe exhaust system. Who knows? I tried opening all the windows but the smell never went away. Anyway, the office was kind enough to give us another room. After that, it was smooth sailing. Everything was perfect!!!! The room was […] like an apartment very comfortable. Only suggestion is when you are cooking keep a cover on the pot since the smoke alarm goes off easily. You'll definitely be safe from fires!! I had read mixed reviews on Williamsburg Plantation, but my concerns were set aside as soon as we arrived! The place was in spectacular condition, and had the feel of a home versus a hotel. The staff was friendly and helpful. We had a free washer/dryer and every creature comfort, including free DVD rentals, indoor pool, etc. I would have enjoyed free […] Wi-Fi, though. The location is perfect for visiting the outlets, Colonial Williamsburg & Busch Gardens. We will DEFINETELY go back there. The landscape was nice and the room was a perfect size for our family. I was a little disappointed that the kitchenette was so small and had only a hot plate and microwave. A full stove and oven would be the only thing I would add to the room.
