It was perfect for our needs. We have 2 young kids (ages 1 and 4) and our friends stayed with us with their 1-year old as well. We were all in one of the 2 bed 2 bath houses and there was plenty of space. It was very clean and very kid-friendly. "Warning: you will get the sales pitch timeshare!"
Don't get me wrong. The hotel is nice. The 2 bedroom condos are very spacious. The resort itself is very good (minigolf, 3 pools, tennis, activities, etc). The condos are a little dated - furniture and appliances were old but they functioned. A quick update with new furniture and these condos will be great units. Here was the problem: when I arrived, […] I checked in my friends and was *escorted* to a special area where we received a full-press timeshare sale. The man was very insistent telling us we needed to book a time for a meeting to learn about their timeshares. He asked a lot of personal questions. When I began to refuse answering and agreeing to a meeting with their sales rep, he become hostile. I was completely irritated and frankly, I was very embarrassed. I picked this hotel with the recommendation of Hotels.com. My friends with me were just as irritated about getting the timeshare pitch. I think Hotels.com needs to disclose this in their listing. We are very delighted to hear that the size of our condos and activities offered met your needs. New flat-screen TVs are due to be installed as part of the resort’s current refurbishment program, which is also scheduled to include interior redecoration and replacement of furnishings. We try to advise our rental partners that we are primarily a Vacation Ownership property, and we truly regret hearing that you were not aware of this before your arrival. As a Vacation Ownership property, solicitation of a sales presentation is part of the check in process. While many of our guests are interested to find out more about our products (and the free gifts that are included for attending); unless you are staying on a promotional trip, you are not required to attend this presentation unless you want to. The behavior displayed by our Concierge staff is not representative of the type of behavior that should be portrayed to our guests. For this we are truly sorry, and we will make sure to handle this internally with our Concierge staff. We hope this did not put too much of a damper on your stay, and we hope to see you and your friend again here soon!

We had a nice stay but that was because we left the resort everyday and went and did something. It was way too crowded at the resort. You couldn't even get close to the pools unless you went at 7 in the morning. People just walked in the roadway as we tried to go and come back. No sidewalks to and from pools, spa, store, etc. The furniture could use […] an upgrade. Very uncomfortable. The cushions on the couch sank down so far that the top of the cushion was even with the edge of the couch hurting the back of your legs. The lawn maintence is so/so. Grass needed to be cut when we got there and it was cut while we were out on day but it looked like it was hacked down with a machette instead of a good lawn mower. The TV in the main room sucked. One channel was good, next was so static, then we had some channels looked like 3D. All in all, I don't know if we would stay there again. Just have to wait and see! Please allow us to explain that in some circumstances, we may be able to upgrade guests on arrival if there is the accommodation available. We must advise, however, that there is an upgrade fee at this resort, and we are very sorry if this was not made clear to your prior to your arrival. While the resort will make every effort to provide suitable alternative accommodation should our guests request it, we must advise that the upgrade fee may be incurred if it is necessary to allocate a larger size of apartment as a replacement. We must also advise that rental prices will vary depending on how far in advance the reservation is made, and reservations made closer to the arrival date may be more expensive due to limited availability. We are very sorry for any disappointment you experienced during your vacation. Overall, the hotel was great, however, the next time I will definitely bring my own paper products! Theirs were AWFUL!! The toilet tissue, paper towels, and tissues were terribly rough, thin, and pretty much worthless as you needed several tissues to blow your nose or it melted right into your hand!! (same for toilet tissue! UGH!!) Didn't care for their […] soaps, shampoo, etc, but I tend to most always use my own anyway. They DO push the Timeshare thing, which we weren't at all interested in, but only made a couple of attempts, then stopped. Other than that, the place was fine and I would definitely stay again. I've stayed here twice and enjoyed myself both times. The place could use a little updating, particularly the hot tub, but for what I paid, it was still fine. It's a nice place that's close to lots of local attractions. I stayed with three other adults and it was perfect for what we needed. That staff was friendly. Check-in took a bit longer than what […] I thought it should and they weren't very efficient. It seemed as though they had a few trainees working at the time. On the other hand, I had to make a service call for the hot tub. The call was answered quickly and the problem was solved in no time. (Turned out to be a simple fix) They were a little pushy on the timeshare presentation thing. I'll definitely know to skip the visit to concierge after check-in next time. It's just for them to try to push you into the presentation, which they automatically set you up for when you book. In general, I like the place. "Great Place to Stay!"
We stayed in the 2 bedroom upstairs condo and it worked perfectly for us. We had five people in our group. 2 slept in the king bed, 2 in the queen, and the other on the queen sofa sleeper. Our room was very clean and accomodated us nicely. The only thing I could say about this place that could have been better was that we had to call the front desk […] twice for extra sheets and there were no wash cloths in our room, but those were minor details that didn't bother us. The tennis courts and pools were very nice and we overall enjoyed our stay at the Powhatan Resort! "Obnoxious Sales Pitch"
Upon checking in for a one-night stay, we were "escorted" to the concierge desk where we were immediately handed paperwork to fill out and scheduled (without being asked) for an hour and a half meeting where we would be given a sales pitch to purchase a time-share. When I told the concierge I wasn't interested, she tore up the paperwork, took back the […] "care package" we received when checking in, and turned around and walked away. "not staying here again!"
These places are neither historic or a resort. They are in a state of disrepair and we were disappointed.''The lady checking us in ( Jonnette?) was rude and the place was disorganized, they sent us to a unit that wasn't cleaned first ( in the pouring rain) then we had to come back to trhe office and they sent us to a room where the key didn't work, […] it was ridiculous.
