"Such excellent service and a great location"
I was not too impressed with the "newness" of the carpets and hotel interior as I arrived, but my opinion of the place went higher and higher as I stayed. The staff was excellent. I asked for a microwave oven and it arrived in minutes. The employee who delivered it and set it up refused a tip. I discovered in the morning that I had forgotten to bring […] an antiperspirant. I called room service and had one in less than one minute. The bed was very comfortable, and the buffet breakfast in the morning was wonderful and less than $7.00. Usually I am skeptical about most Red Lions because they have been outdated and not remodeled to more modern standards. This Red Lion was a diamond in the rough in the fact that even though it hasn't had a major face lift, it has held it's beauty over time. The area where the hotel is located is beautiful. Front desk staff were fantastic!! Best I have ever encountered. The happy hour food at half off wad a great deal and the selection and quality was great. "Not bad for Olympia"
There really aren't any "great" hotels in Olympia. The Red Lion is showing it's age in many ways, but it's clean and everyone tries their best. The location has it's pluses and minuses. It's not near anything, but it's quiet. If you don't have a car, it's a hassle, but if you do, it's convenient to the freeway, very easy to get to downtown Oly, plus […] the malls and businesses in the surrounding areas. It's a bit of a weird tucked away location, but once you find it, it's not a problem. The wireless works most of the time and the speed is not too bad. I've stayed in many hotels over the years and rarely take time to write a review. This Red Lion was really a disappoint though. Service checking in was awful - only one person for several clients waiting, no one to answer the phone, etc. The room was dull, old and although clean it just felt creepy. The sheets were scratchy and the bed looked like someone […] had already been sitting on it when I entered. I love taking baths at night time, but didn't even consider the tub. Noise was an issue as well. Every time someone walked by the room each word of their conversation could be heard. I'm a light sleeper and this was a big issue. I will never stay at your hotel again. I have dog allergies and when I asked about the policy of the hotel regarding dogs I was very unhappy to learn that dogs are allowed in any room. While there I saw 3 dogs on leashes walking the halls of the hotel. One dog was barking loudly and very disruptive. My greatest concern is that dogs are allowed in any […] room. Some of the most friendly staff I have ever encountered at a hotel. The restaurant had some of the best food and atmosphere also... All you can eat prime rib on a Tuesday... That was AWESOME!! Great stay. Nice room, great bed, clean, nice restaurant (great veiws). Easy access to the highway and even a gas station nearby for picking up forgotten items. "Way overpriced for an older needs work hotel"
As stated before the reason we got a room for the night in Olympia is?was to enter our son into his new dorm at college at nearby Evergreen College, we picked the Red Lion because we don't know the area at all and it is only 7 miles. from the college. As if dinner had not been a nightmare enough, the man in room next door was so loud I at first thought […] thier was a group and they were getting extremely intoxicated, but no it was 1 man screeching into his phone all night untill my husband finally called the front desk around 2:30A.M. to report him. They called him and gave him a warning which just angered him so he became louder and ruder his laguage had been ripe with foul words befe, but now he really let loose with the obseneties...So my husband called back after about 1/2 hour more of his abuse,& a hotel attendant came to the man next door& he told the man he must quite down as guests in rooms around him could not get any sleep and he roared back that he had better just move any other guests to different rooms! We could hear everything as if we were in the next room with him, the walls are paper thin. Beautiful grounds, nice view, right on the bus line for easy 5 minute trip to downtown for $1. The only downside was the roof was being replaced so we got one night of hammering right above our heads until 8:30pm which I thought was a little late for people to be working.
