The room was very comfortable and the staff was very helpful. The pool area was very cold...the water was very warm, but the air in the room itself was very cold...all of the adults were commenting on that. I would not go to that hotel in the winter time again for that reason.

Room took a couple of hours just to heat up to tolerable level. Staff said room wasn't used for several days. Wife and I had to go out for a few hours while room heated up. Everything else was ok.

Hotel as a little dated, but that means nothing compared to the friendly staff, a nice large and clean room, free Internet, many movie channels and a good starter breakfast, all at a very good price. I would recommend this hotel.

This hotel was perfect for our short weekend away. We were minutes from downtown Portland and 100 yards from the ramp for the major highway. Getting around was so easy. The hotel was very clean and well maintained.

Would have given a "5" but breakfast attendant was certainly not a graduate of any customer service class. We never saw her speak to anyone, and all guests requests were met with long sighs. Attentive staff, clean, well appointed room, pool, small exercise room, easy parking, easy off the highway, and easy drive to Downtown Portland. Wifi a little weak and breakfast room a little crowded at time but not annoyingly so.I've stayed her before in the last 12-18 months and had the same reaction, so it must be a constant. Great value

The only thing that I was unsatisfied with was the WiFi service. I was unable to pickup the WiFi signal on my iPad. Other than that, the front desk employees were all super helpful. I stayed here so I could hang out at Old Orchard Beach before flying out of Manchaster, NH. It's about a 15-20 min drive to the beach.

Pool was nice and breakfast very good. Rooms were clean and staff very efficient. Guest computers in lobby would not allow us to log into facebook. Very conveninet location and a good value - short drive to sights we were there too see along the waterfront in Portland.

Howard Johnson's is not one of the current biggies ie Comfort Inn, Hampton, Holiday Inn etc. They were not a bit better in fact this was an older building in very good and updated shape and I have found the older hotels to be alot more sound proof and that 's big. This was a nice hotel, about 5 or 6 stories, easily located in South Portland. My husband and I were on a driving tour of the New England coast and didn't spend much time in the room, but it was great for our purposes. The room was large and clean. There is some construction happening in the lobby of the hotel but it didn't bother us. The hotel was clean and they have a pet friendly wing of the hotel. There is an additional $10 pet fee that is not included in your hotels.com reservation.
