"Nice people."
The bar & restaurant are understaffed. I won't blame long wait times, no service on staff, they were just having to serve more folks than they could.bed was not comfortable, sheets very scratchy.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good value"
Good value and suited our purpose. Recommend hotel remodel some areas like pool facility but overall comfortable stay with friendly and responsive staff.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Doubletree stay Portland ME Aug 2012"
Front desk attendant , Tyler, has kind of an abrupt attitude. Otherwise, everyone else was nice.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Wouldn't be my first choice!"
The bathrooms are clean, but, overall not in good condition. There was mold in the shower and rust around the outside of the tub. The blamkets on the bed were way to short for such a large bed and you had to untuck the blanket every night to get it to extend over your body. The bartenders were sullen and one kept talking on the phone to his EX mother […] in law while he kept me waiting over 5 minutes to by a bottle of water. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Terrible night counter staff individual!!!!!"
this would be a great hotel, but only if they get rid of the lousy night counter guy named Tyler. He was rude to all guest he spoke with, and did not care one bit about taking care of any customer concerns. The only way I able too was by waiting till morning and speaking with the manager, this happened 4 out of the 5 days I spent there. The rest of […] the staff was very nice and helpful. But I will never stay there again as long he is there! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Comfortable Hotel with Indoor Pool"
The DoubleTree by Hilton in South Portland is a well known land mark as it is two round towers. It is conveniently located, off the interstate. I chose this hotel because of the indoor pool and was traveling with my two children. They enjoyed their time in the pool. The staff was polite and helpful. The room itself was comfortable and updated. The downside […] of this hotel is that the pool area itself is in disrepair and the hallways need updating. Also, the traffic from the interstate could be heard from my room. Overall, I would stay there again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Don't Pay Full Price"
I generally look at negative reviews as just a complainer-type personality, but I got this room on sale and in the future I will find another place to stay, even if I could get it cheaper. I must have had the same room as another reviewer, hopefully all the rooms can't be this bad. Growing up in Maine, the "round hotel" has always been a point of interest, […] but once you get to your room, any interest goes away. This was originally a Sheraton hotel for as long as I can remember, then a Wyndham for a short time when it was supposedly remodeled, I think they just painted and re-wallpapered, now it's a DoubleTree and not anywhere near the level it should be for that brand. 1st, the lighting is horrible, three lamps, the brightest one being the desk lamp do not provide nearly enough light, the room is very dark. 2nd, yes the furniture is dated and shabby, but the real low point was the apholstered chair... unidentifiable stains and just plain dirty. Actually, the whole room was rather dirty. The little decorative duvet I pulled off immediately by the corner of it, again stained and not clean looking. If something is stained that badly, it should be replaced, and not on the bed. The switchplates in the bathroom looked like they had never been wiped down, there was make-up all over the hairdryer, to the point where I didn't touch my hair, just blew dry, washed my hands and then combed it out. There was also makeup all over the bathroom door. The shower tiles were not 100% clean. If you can find this hotel in the less than one hundred dollar price range, stay at the Towne Place Suites in Scarborough, a little further down the road, not all the "hotel" services, but clean, large and very comfortable! And yes, an "extended-stay" type hotel will book a room for just one night. Do that instead. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Could have been alot cleaner. Restaurant was not open. Hotel staff needs to be better trained to answer customer questions and concerns.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Double Tree"
This hotel is old. The rooms need updating. The bathrooms are VERY small. The beds were fairly comfortable, but the room was stuffy. The pool and the room the pool is in was COLD! You have to walk through the lobby and the bar in your bathing suit to get to the pool room. We took a cab downtown to go out to dinner and it was over $45.00 round trip. […] Next time we will spend that extra money on a hotel closer to the Old Port where there are more dining options. The staff were friendly, but I probably won't stay here again due to the location and old, worn down rooms. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Attentive front staff, room electrical hazards."
Electrical outlets and telephone jack were hanging out of the wall behind the night stand. The other outlets in the room would not hold a plug, they were too large??? I opened the covers to the bed and found a long black hair in the sheets. Room was okay but definitely needs updating the right way, not cutting corners. Carpet was frayed in front of […] the bathroom. No fan in the bathroom and instructions state leave the bathroom door closed when showering as there is a heat sensor in the room. Suffocating. The front desk staff was wonderful. When I needed something, they immediately brought it to my room. The staff member who checked me in was extremely helpful. The bar staff left little to be desired. They almost ignored me the whole time I was sat there. One was totally absorbed in communicating with a girl who seemed to be his girlfriend. The bar was fairly empty so there was really no excuse for the poor service. Didn't watch when I wanted another drink, I had to practically put the beer bottle on the edge of the bar so they could see I would like another. After I ordered something to eat, the woman never checked back to see how I was doing. Overall, if you're just looking for a place to sleep it's ok but overpriced. "Don't pay regular price"
While we got an amazing price on our stay, we were disappointed with the condition of the building, and our room especially. Hotel was rated as a 3-star, but we've seen better 2-star hotels. Maintence issues include: 1. Outlets in the room that were very loose, a plug would barely stay in them without falling out. 2. The thermostat setting seemed to […] have NO effect on the room temperature. 3. I found a small, sharp piece of metal (with my bare foot) in the carpet, that I could not identify or remove. 4. When the shower lever was activated, only about half of the water would go through the shower head, the rest continued to poor through the tap. The staff, however, were pleasant and professional, and courteous. Overall, we enjoyed our stay, but we would not be interested in paying regular price for the rooms.
